This is what Kills Games: DLC Disease
DLC was once a fantastic way to extend the enjoyment players got out of their games. They added tons of great content and often came from the hearts of developers who were excited to add more to their passion projects. But today, DLC has become one of the primary victims of the video game industry's ever-increasing greed. Join me as we explore examples of DLC done right, and the many done wrong, as well as talking more critically about what shapes a good and bad piece of downloadable content.

AAA video games once occupied the space of the greatest on offer. In recent years, that's all changed. But how did it become this way? What kinds of changes have occurred? Take a deep dive with me and figure out why Indie games are filling the role AAA titles once did, and doing a great job at it. Greed Ruined The Sims

The Sims was once a fantastic life simulation game with a promising future. However, the latest installment in the series has drastically reduced the quality of the games and made it clear to players that it's no longer about making a good game, but solely about making money. Is Morrowind Better than Skyrim?
มุมมอง 173K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
If you're reading this, the title and thumbnail are totally clickbait. This whole video is more about discussing the shortcomings and shortcuts of and made in Skyrim (and to a lesser extent, Oblivion) due to a trend of simplification and obsession with accessibility in the gaming industry, which Bethesda is not exempt from. Sorry about the bit rate by the way, I think I just figured out how to ...
How to become a GOD in Kenshi

There's a ton of Kenshi tutorials out there, we all know that. But I am yet to find any one comprehensive guide which takes you from the very start all the way to becoming a beast all in one concise formula and video. So I decided to make one. Hopefully this helped you out. CREDITS FrankieWuzHere TH-cam: th-cam.com/channels/nIUl6xiD5B-Tg_xhFTip8A.html @FrankieWuzHere Twitch: m.twitch.tv/frankie...

you obviously never go to truestl
Counter argument: Skyrim is a better game because it is more accessible. I don't have the time or mental energy anymore to delve into the deep lore and mechanics of games like Morrowind. I game when I need to shut off my brain for a moment, but still feel like I want to go on an adventure. For this reason, Skyrim is superior.
Just bring back levitation, teleportation, water walking, and any other cool magic i forget
The difference between Morrowind "fun" and skyrim fun for me is that every time I see someone praise morrowind they mention mods or texture upgrades. I should not have to use mods, google things, or do anything outside of the game itself to have fun. I think mods are the sole reason we don't have elder scrolls 6 yet. I can and have replayed vanilla skyrim many times. The first time I even touched a mod was just to make the leveling go a bit faster since I am an adult now with a full time job. People can defend the combat all they want but it is janky old shit combat. Which I personally think adds to the charm of the game, but if a game came out in 2024 with that RNG bs combat in a first person pov, it would be garbage.
Morrowind is my favorite game of all time.. Playing it as a child was magical
You sound like Edward Norton.
I played Morrowind and Oblivion. Morrowind was a well thought out and engaging game. Oblivion was a huge disappointment for me, to the point that I never played Skyrim. Morrowind was fun to play over and over. Playing Oblivion again was on the level of going back to work on Monday morning.....not fun.
I don’t think there is anyone in the world who needed a 22 minute video to tell us that Morrowind is the better game.
Small correction, Alduin has not returned to "eat the world" Alduin is actively shirking his duties, at least his duties in the myths, by seeking dominion over men and elves. When he's flung forward in time he continues to shirk his duties, which is a likely reasoning for the emergence of a dragonborn, acting as an extension of Akatosh to return Alduin to him as one of his aspects. Again, it's not a huge detail but it recontextualizes the story in a more interesting way. I agree with the points you made in the video, thought it was worth mentioning though
My favorite thing about Morrowind is the spell creation. You want Fast Travel? You can STACK the teleport spells. I set the Mark spell at the Talking Mudcrab Merchant. Not only is he the second best merchant in the game (some in the DLC have the same amount of money but buy more types of goods), but get this. Use the Recall spell, and you go to the Mudcrab. Make a custom spell with Recall AND Divine Intervention, and that one spell takes you straight to Ebonheart. Make a custom spell with Recall AND Almsivi Intervention, and it takes you straight to Molag Mar. Make a custom spell with Recall AND Divine Intervention AND Almsivi Intervention, and it takes you straight to Vivec because cause you bounce from the mudcrab to Ebonheart, and then to Vivec. Do the same, but make it Recall + Almsivi + Divine, and it bounces you to Sadrith Mora. No one tells you to do that; you just need to figure it out. But by combining all kinds of different magics, you can get some crazy effects. And since there are way, WAY more spell types in Morrowind, you really get to feel like a wizard. Heck, you can even use permanently increase your stats and skills by binding the effect to your character's very soul.
now do Daggerfall
No
I love that you have to invest into the world by reading. Your hand is never held. Thats what makes the world immersive. No way points, no map markers. You are just dropped in a world and told to exist.
I had this game back in the day. It was cursed. Every time I made decent progress some part of my computer would die. I might give it another go. Great video, nice to see a zoomer excited about antiques.
great video, some good jokes, too. audibly laughed a few times
To this day Kotor 1 and 2 are the most fun and best Star Wars games and stories in the media, same for Morrowind in Elder Scrolls
Skywind is gonna be a game changer
I never understood why the combat system was so negatively received when the basis for RPGs is that you roll a die to see if you hit. I guess it sucks that you still need to physically hit the attack before you get the roll, but, whatever. people complain about Morrowind being a mystery that doesn't explain itself when they complain about things like this, but, the game also shipped with an instruction manual that explained how everything worked, including describing all spells. also, I think it's crazy that we used to be able to enchant or do alchemy from our inventory, and now the remaining system is bound to in-world elements. my wish is that ES6 is Morrowind-style done on the updated engine, but, god knows I'm no longer target market for this series.
I LOVE morrowind, but its not that people dont understand the combat system, it's that they dont like it. Everyone understands its a modified dice roll.
YES. Edit - Daggerfall is better than Morrowind.
Here's a few of my favorite things from Morrowind; IIRC it's implied by Azura or one of the important story NPC's that i believe you find in a cave that gives a ton of exposition, that you may not actually even be the Nerevarine. And you're just another person that just happens to be in the right place, at the right times, under the right circumstances and just happen to be fulfilling each prophecy in the correct order. Because of the book quest, I have committed Vivec to memory. Crassius Curio, the author of The Lusty Argonian Maid lives in Vivec, Hlaalu Canton in Curio Manor. If you've completed all of Bloodmoon, and either mark down or remember where all the Sacred Stones are. You can go in to the Dragonborn DLC knowing exactly where all the All-Maker Stones are since they kept their locations in mind almost to a tee. If you've killed Vivec, you can still make a juryrigged Wraithguard. By taking the Unique Dwemer Artifact looted from him to Yagrum Bagarn. In Oblivion there is a book, my personal favorite book, the Ruins of Kemel-Ze. It describes a place in Vvardenfel, that you can actually visit when you play Morrowind. It tells you where it's nearby, which way to go and describes the area almost perfectly. The only caveat, is that it doesn't actually exist in the game Morrowind. But you can go to the exact area mentioned in the book, and see everything that's described around where Kemel-Ze is supposed to be.
"Ive heard others say the same" Oblivions the best. Wes Johnson ftw.
The best thing about tes games are world building and the best cities imo from 10 worst to 1 best are: 1. Vivec (Morrowind) 2. Murnhold (Morrowind) 3. New Seoth (Oblivion) 4. Imperial City (Oblivion) 5. Sadrith mora (Morrowind) 6. Ald'rhun (Morrowind) 7. Balmora (Morrowind) 8. Markarth (Skyrim) 9. Skingard (Oblivion) 10. Solitude (Skyrim) Yeah Morrowind got some great cities.
Morrowind is a better but Skyrim is more fun to me
Skyrim is a shallow puddle, its barely the 3rd best tes
the only thing we can and pretty much have to thank skyrim for is bringing mass popularity to the elder scrolls as a whole. if skyrim didnt exist i wouldve never found the gem that oblivion is
Morrowind has terrible graphics but its obviously because its a 2002 game. If it was made now, I would defintely buy it but its graphics just dont do it for me.
Let me summarize, he doesn’t like Skyrim because it’s not a real RPG.. since the decisions you make don’t really make a difference.
The combination of humor, detail and the fact that your passion for the games is coming through in your content made this video a win for me, definitely gotta check out more of your channel!
Classic hipsters in the comment wherr the best product in their opinion is the worst ans viceversa, cause they are special and smarter than others. Morrowind TRIED to do what skyrim did, stop being silly
One of my friends is big on coding, I won't pretend like I understand at all, but he REALLLY likes rpgs, and he's trying to make one with an absolutely vile magic system. Disclaimer, but he switches on a dime, and it doesn't look great, so don't expect a go fund me from Paul in the CS department soon. Basically you cast spells by making a physical circle that you must draw with a mouse and its power depends on the accuracy of what you're making and we all made fun of him for this (being too complex) but it is super cool. One I remember is a pentagram, which is demon summoning, and you draw a funny shape in the middle for a separate type of demon and I remember it bc he hates making AI and I think it was 'pathing' or something and he complained like a ton abt it. The idea is that you progress the mages' quest line to find more spell patterns, and you get better at magic as you play bc you get better at drawing, and you unlock better drawings. The sword fighting was also cool because, similarly, it's based on your movement and where you hit to counter enemies (knock back swords at the cost of stamina, cut limbs etc) although he hasn't figured out how to balance that against enemies because it feels a little too strong. It reminded me a lot of morrowind because of the terrible graphics and freedom you feel from playing. Right now, it's basically a field, a house, an npc, and a shadow man who tries to hit you and some patterns, but I am proud of my boy, poor man's been on it for MANY months.
Morrowind is like the demo for skyrim, come on now. Every place looks the same, copy pasted stuff all over, seems like walking in circle in a cage, delusional faboys
You are completely right i beat Skyrim several times on legendary difficulty with no magic, shouts or potions( unless it was required as part of the quest) only an iorn war ax, iorn shield andiron armor and never died i also didn't fast travel Skyrim has no immersion the game is almost like a big participation award it holds your hand the entire time i personally prefer oblivion but honestly Morrowind is an amazing game as well
great video 🤝🏽 i wish the devs would watch this and care about the people who actually helped launched the elder scrolls series.
Morrowind is beyond boring.
I love my 1990 mazda b2200 but it handles like shit so I don't drive it much.
Thanks <3 loved it
As cool as this video may be, I think a part of what makes Kenshi good is to learn yourself, to grow. Good video tho!
The fact they hav delayed the new Elder Scrolls for an entire year would suggest that you hit the nail on the head that ES6 is identical to the poor performance of NOMANSKYRIM... I have always thought skyrim was a bad game compared to oblivion and more specifically morrowind..... morrowind has more nerdy D&D aspects to it which people like us crave for an RPG. Skyrim is nothing more than a normie action adventure like you say and I don't enjoy that its had that level of interest because it stops being uniquely cool for me..... in skyrim i just totally wasnt interested in exploration because it was all the same and they should 100% remove fast travel - it destroys so much immersion - or you base fast travel in reality AT LEAST. I know that bethesda wont deliver on ES6 and i think it will kill them off for good because they can't afford to have another poor launch on a major triple A title. You heard it here first, ES6 will kill Bethesda. THEN, no doubt todd will break away from bethesda to make his own company and remake an RPG with morrowind-esc details...... shareholders killed this company, I don't believe the current state of bethesda align with Todd howards beleifs or we nev er would have had morrowind in the first place.
tapping "R" key is a god send in itself.
How does your UI look so good?
Dark UI mod
Skyrim is good because it's welcoming. Morrowind is great because it isn't. It's hardly a contest really.
Bro stop the cope let’s be honest a rng combat system is garbage , but for the time it came out is forgivable
At the end of the day both the games of a flourishing modding community and both games have there die hard fans that make videos like this.
Is Morrowind a great game with a great story.....yes, would most people play it ?....no, game companies realized that selling games is more important to stay in buisness than creating the greatest game. It was even one of the first to go to console and still only the 17th best selling xbox game far behind games like the halo's and gta 3. Oblivion, which i thought was better, didn't even sell that many more and it wasn't till skyrim that they really figured it out becoming the 8th best selling xbox game. Now this is just console but there are just as many of those as PC gamers and that is huge revenue for a game company. One final thought I like reading in a game but i don't like ONLY reading and that is what Morrowind is. if real life's entire dialog was written and not spoken it would be pretty boring.
The only reason Skyrim was successful is because: 1. Massive marketing campaigns and carefully crafted hype during development and release 2. They gutted all RPG mechanics from the game to make it appealing to non-RPG fans Could you imagine if they did the same with dark souls after demon souls found it's niche audience ? This is why a lot of us can't stand Skyrim, it spelled the beginning of the end of Fallout and TES for hardcore RPG fans.
Whyd they do Lenin like that, oh the irony
just came here to say yes
Oblivion forever!
No it's not
