Such a beautiful collection 🩷 I collect certain Austen editions and I definitely have my eye on the Puff in Bloom ones they are sooo pretty 🥺
Hello! I’m a new subscriber. 😊 I loved your video and I love how you give us enough time to see the books properly. Love that! ❤️
Welcome 🙋♀️ so glad you enjoyed the video 🤍
I truly loved seeing your collection! Some of the books I had seen before, some were brand new. But there was something special about their beauty one after another! Thanks for sharing 📚
So glad you enjoyed the video! 🤍
Wow! Thats a great collection. Yes pride and prejudice is one of the all time classic. Thanks for sharing.😊
So glad you enjoyed the video!
What a pretty young lady. Those are some exceptional eyes :) Best of luck with your endeavors.
Thank you, that’s very kind :)
what a great video - really informative and your love of Austen shines !
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed the video
Impressive collection, Izzy! ❤ it. I finally got the Cranford collection and I've been reading our book club pick from it. Very readable like you said. I have a copy of Northanger Abbey in that same Folio Edition you have and it's pretty sturdy. I have read through it twice. I recently got the LitJoy Crate Paperback Classics Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion. They're gorgeous. My first copy was the Wordsworth classics edition, it's probably all torn up back home now😢. As usual, I'm obsessed with your nails😍. Great video💛. Happy Pride and Prejudice Day!
Ayo! Hello my love, would love to see more of your set maybe we can share as a group 🤍can’t wait to see you at re weekend, hope you had a good Pride and Prejudice day xx
@@Izzymeakin Yess, it'd be great to see everyone's collection. Looking forward to the weekend. See you soon
£110 in 1813 would be nearly £10,000 today.
Well this is good to know I will pin it if I can! Don’t know why I thought it was next to nothing, that’s not too shabby at all
Such beautiful editions! I have the Chiltern edition, which I love, and I have my eyes on the Puffin in Bloom set 🥰
I love my puffin in bloom set, really recommend 🤍 I want to collect more of the Chiltern editions this year
Well, Happy Pride and Prejudice Birthday 🎂
Happy Pride & Prejudice Day!!
@Izzymeakin ☺️
Ooh I think I might have to get the Puffin in Bloom one!😍 You have such lovely collection. Have you ever read any of Meg Cabot’s regency romances? I used to love them when I was about 13. 😁
You know I haven’t! Maybe I need to give them a read. I really recommend the puffin in bloom set, such a lovely add to any collection 🤍
Really enjoyed your editions walk through. My Penguin Classics edition is also my reading copy - I have used plastic covers 198mm tall to protect it and even when the spines split in these they still look good on a shelf in their protective covers. Love your cutesy doggie. Thanks. 🥰
This is such a wonderful tip! Thank you 🤍📖
❤❤❤
So glad you enjoyed it!!
Looking forward to more P&P analyzation videos!
Thank you!! 🤍
Generally what time of year do tickets go on sale? I’m on the mailing list but scared I might miss it. Don’t know yet if I’ll go though… it might have to be another year
Spring time is all it shows on the website at the moment, they will open to festival friends first (I don't know if you paid for that) and then open to public 🤍
This was discussed on one of my fave podcasts “goes without saying” too (I can’t remember which episode sorry!) but I love seeing you articulate this so beautifully Izzy
Thank you!! Oh amazing I'll add that podcast to my list 🤍
Only read one so far and that's Northanger and love how the real life situations didn't live up to her expectations.
Relatable! haha, I hope you enjoy your Jane Austen reading journey
Thank u for making the term in a Positive light. Super Important tool to protect Females!!
You are very welcome! So glad you enjoyed the video 🤍🤍
I've read all 6 novels countless times, and I really enjoyed this video! I'd like to add one point - another good reason for reading "Mansfield Park" just before "Persuasion", is that in "Persuasion" she takes up a lot of the elements that appear in "Mansfield Park" and presents them in a more positive way. To give two examples: 1. Both Fanny and Anne are "invisible family members", unappreciated and only noticed when others want to use them. But Fanny is a typical abused child, and her development is sad and painful. Anne, whom we see at a later stage, is more self assured, and takes control when needed - both during other's issues and over her own life. 2. Both books present sister rivalry - Maria and Julia struggling for Crawford's attention, and Louisa and Henrietta both attracted to Captain Wentworth. (and in both cases, neither sister gets the man). But Maria and Julia act unpleasantly and are unattractive characters, while Louisa and Henrietta are attractive and manage to remain good sisters despite the rivalry. And there are many other points of comparison.
I love this comparison so much! I’ve never noticed this but it’s so true
Amazing review! Thank you!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Makes me think of Beatrix Potters Jemoma Puddleduck story
I love Beatrix potter 🤍
It's very beautiful but I think the dogs upstaged it when you were at the market, they were all so adorable.
Agreed! So many cute dogos there 😫🐶
@Izzymeakin including yours of course 🐶
Thank you, Izzy 😊🎄☃️❤
You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it ☃
Such a lovely vlog. Seems like you had a magical time!
Thank you! It really was magical, the team at Chatsworth do an incredible job ☃
I have the Persuasion version of Barbara Heller's letter book. You must fet tthat one. Ir has an interesting variety of things. Not just letters. Calling cards, musical program and a map in addition to other fun things. Wentworth's letter of course.
Wait what! This sounds amazing, I’ll have to get it 😱📖
wow. very enlightening video. i can't believe i've never heard about this history before. thank you for sharing!
So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for commenting 🤍
Great video! Only one thing I noticed watching this video on TV, could you stop looking at the view finder, and instead look at the camera lens? It's a small thing I notice people doing but changing that can have positive impact on the video quality ❤
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you for the advice I keep working on my set up, it’s taking a bit of time to get right :)
This reminded me, idk if I heard this on a movie or somewhere, about soldiers in the middle east, fixing constantly a pipe that allowed people from a small village to have current water instead of going for it to the local well, they didn't knew why it kept breaking, until they discovered in the night, the women of the village were breaking it, when they asked them why, why would they want more labor, when they were the ones carrying the water to their homes, they responded: because going to the well it was the only time they were unsupervised by their husbands and they can speak to each other. Everywhere else they must remain silent, including their own homes.
Thanks for sharing! I’ve never heard that story before but I think it adds so much to this whole argument 🤍
Please continue making videos like this...we need them.
Thank you for your support 🤍
I just stumbled upon your channel & I'm so glad I did! Excellent video - not only enlightening us about the importance of informative gossip among women, but also shining a bit of a spotlight on the "pick me girls" who accuse women (& work against women as a whole) in order to boost their own position in the patriarchy, as well as the dangers of revealing too much of our personal information to men. Very relevant video for what we are currently experiencing here in the US. I've subscribed & will be suggesting your channel to others.
Thank you so much for commenting! So glad you enjoyed the video. I also made another one on pick-mes in relation to Caroline Bingley but I think you have found that one now too. So happy you found the channel 🤍
Have been thinking a bit lately about the way allegations rarely ruin mens’ careers, yet the backlash against anyone making them is extreme and severe - my conclusion being that men simply do not want women to be able to protect one another. *binary approach to gender used here because of the binary system that creates these dynamics, gender is not inherently binary
I think about this as well. It’s better for us to be a divided group and unfortunately I think a lot of the time we are :(
It's depressing, but the pattern I've noticed is that 'I was assaulted," will generally be believed unquestioningly, but 'I was assaulted _by_ [name]" will more likely trigger denial and equivocation. An anonymous attacker can be pictured as whatever outgroup scapegoat the listener pleases, but as soon as he has a name, they have to accept that ordinary, familiar men can do monstrous things.
Holy shit that was a great video! I’ve not heard anyone speak about gossip this way, thank you!
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it 🤍
So sick of hearing "not all men" used to shut down the conversation about how dangerous men are to women.
Honestly same! 🤍 It winds me up that I even feel the need to make the point 🤦♀️ I think it’s best to avoid anyone who tries to use that statement as a counterargument… like what are you hiding 💨🪞
Gossip isn't just mere story telling its when you unecessarilly spread information (wether true or false) that puts someone in a bad light unnecessarily. In other words talking shit behind peoples back and ruining their reputation without just reason to do so (i.e your own or other people safety) its hurtful.
Thanks for your comment. Yes there are two sides to gossip. I do make this point in the video, and highlight this conversation/video is about good quality gossip designed to educate, empower or protect. I also use this video to ref the origins and history of the word itself which was initially positive and was about the bonds between women :) women supporting each other and friendship.
I'm really glad I stumbled upon this video! It was a very intriguing listen. Reclaim quality gossip, girlies
Thank you for your comment! So glad you enjoyed the video 🤍
This is an incredibly important topic and you’re the first person I’ve seen discuss this on TH-cam. I’m glad this was suggested to me. This was a really good analysis and I think you could even go deeper on it.
Thank you for the comment! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. I agree 👍 I was just scratching the surface; there's so much more to explore on this topic!
@@IzzymeakinWell my bell is on, immediately followed and I’m really excited for what you talk about next. You’re smart and engaging and I love discovering channels that really have something to say. Great job! Happy to be here now.
@@affntthis means so much thank you!
Is Lucy worsley book worth reading if you have watched her Jane Austen documentary video? I’ve watched her documentary a thousand times and I own the book but everytime I think of picking it up I think it’s probably all the same info from the show let me know!
I must admit alot of it is similar, but the book has some good info and stories that aren’t featured which I think are interesting and are not widely known. I actually jumped around chapters and I think if you already have a good idea of her life this is the best way to read it 🤍
🤩
Caroline Bingley vs. Elizabeth Bennet is your classic pick-me vs. NLOG. A pick-me always desperately wants to be the NLOG
I had this same argument recorded but the video was so long I had to cut it, but yesss and I also wanted to highlight the differences cause I think they are often considered the same. We are on the same page! Thanks for this comment 🤍
I found some books from the Cranford collection in my country (Romania) this month. They cost only 7 euros each so I’m very excited to own them. It is a pity that this collection doesn’t come with more classic illustrations for each book.
Thanks for commenting 🤍 I’m so excited they are more wide spread now! I’m also sad there aren’t more illustrations though
😊
very well put, women need to stick for each other. we are stronger together :)
Agreed, glad you enjoyed the video 🤍
Loved this! Would you be interested in doing a q&a at some point? 😊 I’m a nosy person hehe
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I’ll probably will in the future, once I’ve found my footing with these videos :)
Such an interesting video! Funnily enough, my daughter and I were having a conversation today about 'pick-me' behaviour. I'm going to ask my daughter to watch this, some great advice, thank you!! I agree so much about having hobbies, I've met my tribe throught my hobbies, in particular cross stitch. I'm actually just about to stitch a design based on that quote by Caroline Bingley when she says 'I shall be miserable if I havenot an excellent library' ❤
Love everything about this comment, thank you for sharing! It’s amazing that you are having these conversations with your daughter that’s how we change things by educating and supporting the women and girls around us 🤍 and yesss to making friends through hobbies it’s the best, and you will have to dm me a photo of your cross stitch when it’s done 😱
@@Izzymeakin I will!! I have quite a few Jane Austen themed stitches, I can't help myself 😄 thank you, yes, it's extremely important to educate girls and empower them!! 🙌🏻
I love this!! I've never tried cross stitch but it looks very relaxing so might need to give it a go over Xmas 🤍
I went to the Jane Austen centre back in 2015 and it wasn't that busy because the Jane Austen festival wasn't on.
Well that’s good to know!
Love this, lots of information and well presented. Thank you.
Thanks!
Hi Izzy...I enjoy your video on Jane Austen...as i watch the Film The Serpent's Kiss I just learned about Hampton Court and I am learning something new.
This is really interesting! I’ve always been told and read that she hated Bath, but what you say makes so much sense.
So glad you enjoyed it!
Do you have a book stamp/ embosser ? Have you used it on your lovely editions ? I’m so torn between keeping them nice but at the same time I want to make them mine and emboss them !
I don't but also love the idea of them! I always love finding books with inscriptions so I would say go for it. The book itself has a story in relation to you, it's very meta haha.
