New years fireworks, what could possibly go wrong? Read the description to find out.
Epic plan, neighbour decided to strap some fireworks to the hood an go fer a rip to ring in the new year…. Everything went great… untill it didn’t.
The firework launchers must have been smouldering when the sled was parked and we all went inside to warm up, noticed an eerie orange flicker thru a window and found the hood and front plastics on fire when we went outside to investigate…. Needless to say she’s a whole bunch uglier buuuut still runs!
Tough sled, I should get me one again some day 😏

Sunday fun day! This semi dead poplar in the green belt behind my house has been bugging me for a couple years now so why not make a long boring video of cutting it down and cleaning it up on a Sunday afternoon? The tree had a bit of a back lean to it and all it’s limbs were on the left side, you can tell as I’m doing the back cut I’m just waiting for it to set back onto my bar but luckily the ...

So how much actual weight can it carry?
@@IRV707 Depends how far out from its centre of gravity you are…. Right up close I’d say 800lbs or more would be reasonable, at full extension 200ish? Maybe in the spring I’ll see if I can find a load cell at work and do some testing and get actual numbers…. They are quite strong and I can see why people like adding counter weight to the back of them, the hydraulics aren’t the limit, you can pull yourself over easily if not paying attention.
🤦♂️ Not good. 😂
@@farawayfarm2520 It was very entertaining tho…. 😏🤣😎

From Maine and retired i owned a 664 for many years it made me a lot of money over the years and I rebuilt the 353 once and pins and bushing on the cradle great sidder I have to say I miss it it was a sad day to see it going down the road to a new owner!
@@jonperley9722 I helped put a new cradle in this skidder on the landing a couple years ago, boy what a pile of work!
@@PuskwaskaOutdoors yes it is ive done a few for others cut out the old bushings and weld new in it isn't a fun job keeping them well greased is the best thing every day!
so you dont need a hydrolic thumb to lift logs?
When the machine tips over, lets hope you dont go through the glass. Needs counter-weight and you will have to make one because they dont sell one. Also, if you havent already done so, change the oil.
I run lots of Line Skidders back in the early 70s , when I was young and crazy . In the Winter 4 feet of snow ,get the winch spinning ,with a couple of chokers over your shoulder, and start running up a side hill till you can't pull no more, then sit in the snow and pull more line . 50 bucks a day
In the real world of logging, that is called a line skidder. Just sayin.
That looks like our old machine. I wonder what its history is?
@@BigCatRanch Been so long since I asked my Dad about it I honestly forgot the back story on it… but you aren’t the first to mention it looked familiar 👍
Nice looking poles there . Skidder is in amazing condition .
If not for the T-800 KW Id of thought this was videotaped in the 70's.
Do mini excavators come with a video camera and TH-cam instructions? It almost seems impossible for someone to buy one without going on youtube and bragging about it. OK. You bought the damn thing. The entire world now knows it. Are you happy now? Thank god you aren't a vegan, this video would be two hours long.
@@jamesford7182 🤣 There is a teenage out there somewhere who makes a million bucks a year by recording himself playing Roblox…. Perhaps you should watch him instead of me 🤣🤣🤣 He’s probably celiac instead of vegan, vegans aren’t really relevant these days.
@@PuskwaskaOutdoors Why? Is that your next TH-cam get rich by clicks scheme?
@@jamesford7182 No I prefer baiting commenters into arguments that up my audience engagement stats, it gets my content bumped up in the search’s 😏 Thank you and the 46,000 other people that clicked on this video 👍
@@PuskwaskaOutdoors That's fine. I enjoy showing your readers how they are being conned by someone who doesn't tell the truth simply to sell them stuff. So, its win win. You get to strut like a complete buffoon and I get to point that fact out to your audience.
NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR WELL UNDER $ 10,000K We want to know exactly down to the penny what you spent on this cool little Excavator! If I had known you were not going to disclose the exact amount you spent I would not have watched your video, ok I'm lying I enjoyed the video, But! What's the big secret.
@@craigkerr9281 Oh you want the actual price? It was approx $6500 at the end of the day after paying roughly 20% tax and buyers fees at Ritchie Brothers Auction, Keep in mind that’s Canadian money and $1cdn gets you around $0.71us, I live several hours north from Edmonton, they were still quite new to the market when I purchased it, having a cab almost doubled the price (totally not worth it)…. Open cab versions are still selling In the $2500-$3500cdn range at auction here plus the 20% extortion from Ritchie Brothers.
'78-81 I ran skidder in Canada. About the first year, ran a JD640, switched to C667 (cummins). I can't decide if it was great times or not. It was hard work. (Added) at the end of the video, the panoramic of the landing was very familiar looking.
@@lawrencekellie I hated it a bit when I was younger, always wanted to do some office type of job instead of pulling cable or packing saws up and down a mountain…. Now I have a fairly cozy career but I go back to help my old man as an unpaid holiday every year because I really do love the work… Small scale logging in Canada is dying, and I’ll be sad if I live long enough to see the end.
Can you switch between excavator and back hoe modes? Either by button or switching lines?
@@osparker2 Yeah you can just switch the lines around to either control pattern…. It’s pretty straight forward on the cabless models, mine would be a bit more involved.
This is what we were looking for ... not kids playing with one pallet lol
The controls are not soft enough. They aren't smooth. They are very abrupt, and it takes a while to adjust to them, especially because the machines are small and bounce around pretty violently.A homeowner can't beat the value though. I've seen these for $4,000 -$6500 US dollars.
@@TractorWrangler01 I compared the control valve on my log splitter the other day to the mini excavator controls… the log splitter won 🤣 But for an acreage owner who needs to fill a pot hole, dig in a garden, lay some weeping tile around a house etc etc you just can’t beat what these minis bring to the table.
my sprocket split and started free spinning, from that pinion bolt and washer coming loose.. very important these daily checks great video !
We are having a Patrion sawmill, yet we didn't have time to put it together. Maybe in the next fall, we can play with it. LarchLine ❤
Calling that logging looks like your cutting kindleing wood what are they using it for toothpicks matchsticks
@@GaryBonnell-m9q Ask the mill what they are doing with it…. They won’t take logs OVER 28” at the butt.
How are they on hills or rough terrain
@@twinheatingairconditioning135 Depends on the operator…. I’ve pulled myself around on a slope I won’t drive my quad up and down, and when you have a hoe you can make almost any terrain into a passable trail with a few scoops of dirt here and there…. But if you haven’t ran a hoe before the short answer is they are terrible at both.

Can't go wrong for that money. If nothing else your son will be the coolest kid on the block is what I figure!
I was considering getting one of these and renting it out local, Do you have any advice?
@@Steve-lj1gp my advice would be DONT. They are too fragile for rental machines.
The fatter you get the more it can lift. That seating position makes you the extra ballast 😂
@@BrandonBigB956 you aren’t wrong 🤣
Thanks for the tip on the swing motor. you may have saved my proverbial @$$. ;)
Have you had a chance to try it on sloped terrain? If ya had to guess, what kind of incline do you think it can handle if going only up or down?
@@jseadog1394 it all depends on the operator, I’ve taken mine down a roadside ditch embankment to clean out a culvert basin….
@PuskwaskaOutdoors okay, thank you Pusk.
Just add more ballast and you can lift more

Hi. I see that you are like us... now we are your 936th subscriber... We just got a mini excavator that has a leak... I assume that is from the swing motor... Tightig it, I hope it is going to be the fix...
@@LarchLine Loose mounting bolts won’t cause a leak, it can be from multiple places unfortunately… when I’m trying to find a leak I start by cleaning the area as well as I can with brake parts cleaner or my pressure washer, operate the machine in short intervals and periodically inspect the area the leak is in, do not feel around with your hand when the machine is running as you can end up with high pressure hydraulic oil piercing your skin and causing severe injury! Thanks for the sub 👍 it’s been a loooooong climb to this point 😎

A HT-12 will be shipping to me in 2 days 🤞
I've got a similar setup, though I don't use it as much as I thought I would. My first time playing with it, I got ambitious and hiked a few miles up the mountain dragging a pulk. Fast fold stoves I think are the way to go. . My original stove, was the type you have to assemble. I think it's one reason I don't use my hot tent as often as I thought I would. It looks remarkably similar in design to your Danchel fast folder, but isn't. Probably made in the same factory in china, and rebranded under different names. I think that cot assembly would piss me off, but it beats sleeping on the snow. I had a few feet of snow under my back. With a foam pad doubled up with an air mat, and was always slightly cool at the back. You should see this weird tent I got to for this coming fall deer hunt with the wife. OneTigris Cozshack I think it's called. It's meant as a hammock hot tent, but you can use it free standing with poles. Recently got a new fast folder Ti stove too. Have to burn it in yet. Stove's in general are amazingly efficient with wood. The amount of wood you burn for an hours worth of campfire could last you several hours if not most of the night in a stove.
@@MiddleOutdoorsman The Danchel stove has been pretty solid and reasonably easy to setup so far but I’ve really only used it a handful of times, it’s not the stove but rather the tent that I don’t care for…. The amount of condensation inside of a nylon hot tent drives me crazy, I guess once you’ve grown accustomed to a GOOD canvas tent it’s hard to go in another direction… I was actually looking at various hammock hot tents last fall but ended up asking Santa for the OneTigris North Gaze and the canvas version of it was under the tree Christmas morning, haven’t had a chance to use it yet but I may take it hunting as a field test for winter camping, I still like the idea of a hammock hot tent tho, tons of room for 2 people but reasonably light weight and you get a long straight ridge line the length of the tent to dry gear on and you can walk around inside of it…. You can’t do that in a teepee tent unless it’s HUGE. I think something that gets ignored by a lot of people talking about hot tents or looking to buy a hot tent is the other environmental consideration, your buying a hot tent to stay warm in, days get shorter in the seasons your going to use it in, do you really want to be stuck in a tiny tent you can’t stand up in feeding a tiny wood stove every hour or two thru some long dark nights? I’ve done it enough to know I don’t really enjoy it, my “big” Snowtrekker (9.5’x11’) with my “big” Knico Alaskan stove on the other hand is a canvas cabin I can live in for a week or more and I actually miss it when I get back home… As for a cot? Just buy one, the frustration is real but worth it, being off the ground with a bit of warmer air under you takes the chill off, I use a closed cell foam pad on the cot and I sleep like a baby even if the fire dies…. When my missus comes out with me she has the same sleeping kit as I do and she reminds me when the stove stops glowing cherry red 🤣
