Riding the Propeller. 0.2 RPM.
This is me riding the propeller on a ship with a steam turbine engine. Since it is a rather long process to start up a steam turbine, we are talking about 24 hour, they want to keep it running slowly. Slow means about 0.2 RPM, or one turn in five minutes. On this ship we did a propeller polishing. You might think it is impossible, witch I did at first too, but it works. You only need tend your ...
Broco Cutting In Sheet Pile
During the construction of the new tunnel in Gothenburg, Sweden, one of our jobs is to open up the dock wall where the tunnel segments will connect to land. Here you can see me cut a hole in one of the sheet piles on 3 meters water depth (9 feet). This was done to fill up the pile with water. The actual cut of the piles is done at 15 meters (45 feet) but the suction from the Delta P made it alm...
Propeller Polishing on Oil Products Tanker
Polishing propeller with fixed blades with a total diameter of seven meters and five blades. The maximum working depth was 14.9 meters at the deepest-reaching blade. A propeller polishing can reduce the fuel consumption with several percents and is a good investment for the owner. Saving money, time and the environment. The extra "propeller" mounted on the boss weakens the hubs vortex and decre...
Removal of mooring line stuck in bow thruster
The first seven minutes of a diving operation to remove a mooring line stuck in a bow thruster. It took about four hours to get it all out since we hade to remove the grating and enter the thruster tunnel. The tunnel was only 1.4 meters wide, with a gear house in the middle of it.

    I get peoples fear, and why it's dangerous under uncontrolled circumstances. But this wouldn't happen in that case. I find it rather interesting. I could probably do it (training would be a thing) if I knew conditions were permissible.

    • @MatsBengtsson

      I'm sure you could do it with some proper training. It's great fun when you have mastered the machine and can make it go where you intend to. Of course, during wintertime, it's a pain in the a** due to the cold water. This is not a problem if you really struggle to operate the machine. Then you get exhausted and warm 😂

      I know, but we had divers in the water prior to this. No currents, no swell. All conditions under good observation. I felt very safe when doing this "stunt".

    Interesting video, is that single pass as much as you polish it, i.e. you don't go to a finer grade polish to make a mirror finish. Are you self employed or part of the ships crew or employed by the propeller polishing company? What is your annual salary?

      I know, survival of the fittest, as Darwin would say. In this case "fit" meaning smart. Not to disrespect your cousins, I'm sure they are good people. But if you see this video and (as you should always do) read the description you know this is nothing for the average person to do.
