Dad shows us how to test the mic pin-out of your radio and re-wire your mic to match it.
Good videos. Too bad there are no more. Great guide
I like this video the unfortunate thing i have a Galaxy dx939 which is from 2009 and I went to change the stock microphone plug from the straight version to an angled version and let me tell you this has been helpful but my radio is the opposite. The ground pin is on the lower right and the transmit is upper left. So now I'm going to go on a website and compare what they have and that will help me with the rest of it otherwise this is a good start to show.
Thanks
Sweet u made that look so easy 👍👍👍
Thank you it helped me I should of watched it last week one of my cb radios isn't working now after trying to wire up a microphone just bye guessing. I wired up a 5 pin microphone last night to a realistic cb radio that was fun
Got a galaxy II , no mike, anyone got info of a compatible mikes??
Very good video sir
Still waiting for new videos 73
The diode was blown due to reverse polarity. In layman’s terms, you hooked up the power cord backwards.
Thanks for a very helpful video. I have a Fanon Courier mobile CB with a non-working microphone, if a picture is worth a thousand words than your video is worth a million.
Need to know how to wire an Icom SM-8 desk mic to a Radioddity QT40 radio. I think the QT40 is same as Cobra 4-pin radios. Pins on the SM-8 are: 1) MIC IN 2) 8 V 3) Up/Dn 4) N/A 5) PTT 6) GND 7) MIC E 8) N/A Cobra appears to be: 1) Shield & Common 2) Audio 3) TX 4} RX So from top to bottom list: 6 --> 1 ? ? --> 2 5 --> 3 ? ? --> 4
So in this case, the radio was able to go into TX mode via the small, series resistance of the mic insert. It would be a good follow up to further educate your audience on such a scenario with a diagram. This understanding only helps people figure out the mic wiring, sometimes without doing the radio test because you identify the small, but larger resistance of the insert (most commonly wired dynamic, moving coil type mics, never put a ohmmeter on a crystal mic element).
I have a multi meter, but what could I do if I don't have them other type of meter? I have 5 mic's that I need to test and or wire up for a different CB brand, but same type of 4 prong
Good advice , terrible soldering technique ..lol
Need to. Zoom in little closer to see the color
U can check a diode bye liftinh a leg and in some situations u can test in circuit
thank you ! very helpful !
How hard would it be to put a mic on a walkie-talkie can it be done
I’ve got a nearly new midland cb model 13-884. Powers up but no transmit or receive. Not sure what my next step is. No squelch either. It’s connected to an antenna and a 12vdc power. I haven’t opened it up yet to start looking as I’m Not sure what to look for.
Awesome awesome video
Mike - awesome basic electronic repair channel! Will reference ya if I get more into CB's and similar!
Actually a solid tutorial kinda video!
hello..i need yr help..i have a dnt cb radio cp4012 and as a mic connctor uses an 8 pin din female on the radio..i cant find a microphone for this..what do you recomend? what mic shall i use to havve a 8 din male adaptor??? thanks in advance.
Mike, I really enjoyed this video and learned a lot. My project is to replace the microphone on my Harley which has a 7 pin plug communication plug (including L and R speakers for the helmet. I have trace the microphone to 2 of the pins and the speakers to 3 pins (I believe to be a L and R and a singlar ground). The next step is to determine the ground (Common) and the TX and RX (I would think that the one of the Microphone pins is the TX and the other a common. Do you have any material or sugguestions to help get this figured out? I'm basically going from a 7 pin receptacle to a 4 pine plug (or vice versa depending on how you look at it).
Awsome
Great video. I just bought an Astatic 878 DM pre amp desk mic and it is a 5 pin plug wired for Cobra & President and I have an RCI 2980 WX 4 pin radio. I did buy a plug adapter but still not working properly when I key up. Carrier on AM but no modulation. Is it just a matter of rearranging the wires on the mic plug? Thanks
I think i noticed a film over some parts. I thought somethings melted with the heat inside my car that had been sitting for awhile. I'll have to check that diode. Been awhile since i turned it on because i had no vehicle for many years. Thats about to change so i want to get the old radio working again. Thanks
2 vital pieces of mising information, the replacement should be of the same rating, and type.
Ok, found the problem. When I shorts the jumper lead going to the plug if the radio, it apparently melted the solder on my leads. Been chasing the lack of power problem all afternoon! Bad leads!! One of those things that make you question your sanity. 😂
I just replaced my protector diode and it is facing the correct direction but I still have no power to the radio. Where would I look next?
Excellent explanation. Thank you so much. I have new knowledge now. Keep up the great work.
Quite a funny video in reality 🤣
thank you
I’ve been off the air for over 30 years and need help wiring my D 104 to my realistic 453.

Can you wire the mic to work with a computer using the 1/8th audio plug?
Quisiera saber como soldar un conector de 8 de un micrófono icom HM-36, es de 8 contacto pero no se la ubicación de los cables en el conector

Sorry, but thats not a CB Radio.. it wont talk to other CB Radios unless they are also transmitting FM.
Can you please send me a video about the black, red, yellow how too wire to pickup truck.
On the back of my CB radio I have a red, black, and, yellow wire, what is the yellow wire for, and where do u hook it up to???
Gday Mate, I have just acquired General Electric SSB Model 3-5826A and no power on test ! May I ask if the diode on this model be about the same position as the one you described on this video ? I have managed to download the service manual with schematic diagrams but not too sure on the correct diode to replace Any advice would be greatly appreciated Regards Craig Queensland Australia
Would a Kenwood transceiver uhf be the same ended up with one off ebay kind of ended up overpaying for it didn't really want to radio but figured what the heck he said it was hooked up backwards and some magic smoke come out I looked at the circuitry schematic and I seen like 5 reverse polarity diodes in the schematic will these emits smoke when they blow are Wonder maybe a capacitor not sure
The 'L' isn't a silent letter when pronouncing 'soLder'
Thanks man
Everyone shows how to wire the pin how about showing how to wire the switch RK56
Thanks but what about a 5 dot mike? How to find the up/down ch wire?
Nice easy way to show me how to remove/replace a diode. Well done and I learnt it thanks Dad
A thousand "thank you"s Good sir! I've been putting together some junk CB radios for the Boy Scouts from a bucket of yard sale mix and match. I couldn't figure out why 2 of the radios just wouldn't work right. I had no idea that the hand mics weren't universal. 20 minutes after watching your video and taking notes, all the radios are working perfectly. Thanks again, and a thousand times thank you!
