Why I Switched to the Wing Compact
มุมมอง 14K12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Links: www.amazon.com/shop/redshedrecords Book with me! - www.redshedrecords.net It took a lot for me to switch from my Presonsus rack mixer and Studiolive 24 console, but when Behringer released their compact version of the wing, it got me interested. After researching it's capabilities, I was sold. Hopefully this video helps explain why the Wing mixing system is powerful, and offers a TON of ...

What is (currently) in my Pelican - Audio Engineer's Workbox
Illegal frequency range?
Dude, dope content! What's your equipment list? I am trying to buy gears for live event.
What pelican case do you use to transport it?
Moin & thx for the Video! I got 2 Questions: 1. Would you recommend it as Recording Console in a Studio? I am thinking of separating my mixing environment from my recording environment. At the moment i do both on the same system, but have to deconnect, rearrange and switch a lot of inputs and cables any time i move from one to the other. And 2. How many tracks can be recorded simultaneously with the wing? If i got a stage box and the inputs on the rear for example in a studio setup? cheers from Switzerland
Everybody be lovin' the Wing.
Do you any audio recorded with the wing compact??
Wait $2500??? Here in thailand with import taxes it's more like 3.1k 💀
Can it be used as a Dawless multitrack recorder?
Dude! Don't pull your cables out like that. Grab them by the plug. Geez.
It was for the drama lol I don't actually do this
Hi..is the wing compact any good in a home recording studio. Can it be hooked up to a DAW like LUNA or Logic x?…if so ..how…and is it worth doing this? Cheers, Ray.
Since it has a great amount of inputs and outputs, it would make a great interface! If you're recording bands, it could serve as an awesome headphone mixing machine as well. The downside is its not a good DAW controller. I tested the MCU (Mackie Protocol) DAW Mode, and you can use the faders, but that's about it. It would be a waste of desk space to use it on a desktop for DAW control. For tracking/ headphone mixes etc it would be sweet! You can control it over USB (wing edit) so maybe the Wing Rack would be the best bet. 4x headphone amps, plenty of I / O, control on your studio computer, and expandable via AES50 etc..
For the "hooking up" part, you would select the Wing as your interface in these DAWs, and use it for your I / O. Again it would be great as an interface, and a headphone mixer. There would be a bit to set up, but more than I can explain in a comment.
I'm considering a Wing rack for my home studio. 96 inputs is absolute crazy and for a fraction of the cost of an equivalent audio interface with 96 inputs. It's a no brainer really.
Getting mine on Monday. Can’t wait to play with it.
Good video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hobby home producer here, but I’m interested in new gear. This board looks very promising… great video! Thx for all the practical insights!
I'm super stoked about how much power it has over the M32 or my Presonus! I'll have to put out some more videos on it as I get into it
Another big point: The preamps sound way better than those of the Presonus.
*(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( DUDE WE HAVE BEEN DOING THAT FOR DECADES!!!!!!! And the engine and clocking is ANALOG SILK SHIMMERY SMOOTH, plus I am 96 in x 96 out and it never crashes ever! and so much more@@@! All on a single PC, Mix with (x25) full consoles and record with analog precision in the background!* THE GAME IS REALLY THAN YOU KNOW! .. www.rmllabs.com/MainSite/sac-video.html
SHEHDS lights are the worst lights in the industry. Their light quality is absolutely horrible. I was doing FOH with a lighting company that brought them out and I couldn't even look at them because they hurt my eyes so bad. I also own a lighting company so I know good lights.
*DUDE PRESONUS????? LMAO WTF TO THAT1 They have the WORST audio engine available. Like they actually made a worse system then AVID/DIGIDESIGN...lol .....PO CHILD* Read my other comment I just changed Your life!
You’re making some pretty bold claims here, but I have to ask-what exactly makes SAC’s audio engine so much better than what’s used in high-end consoles from Digico, Avid, or Yamaha? Digital audio is digital audio, and quality comes down to converters, clocking, and processing, not some magical ‘analog silk shimmery smooth’ effect. Also, you say it ‘never crashes, ever’-but any software running on a general-purpose PC is inherently more vulnerable than dedicated hardware, which is why live engineers stick with purpose-built consoles. Even the most stable systems aren’t immune to failure, so that’s a pretty wild guarantee. And then there’s your claim that SAC ‘replaces 25 consoles.’ If you mean it can run multiple virtual mixers, that’s interesting, but in a real-world live setting, how does that compare in usability to actual consoles with dedicated controls? Mixing a stadium show on a touchscreen PC sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. You also suggest that SAC is being ‘suppressed’ by major audio companies. If it were really a game-changer, wouldn’t touring engineers and large venues have adopted it by now? If Avid and Yamaha are somehow ‘hiding’ this technology, why aren’t industry pros speaking out? I’m open to hearing why SAC is so great, but if it’s as revolutionary as you claim, the live sound industry wouldn’t need you in a TH-cam comment section to ‘wake up’ to it. Also, if you want to convince people, maybe tone down the all-caps and random symbols? Right now, you sound less like an authority on live sound and more like someone having a meltdown over a mixing console.
*((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( IM ABOUT TO MAKE YOU CHANGE AGAIN!!!!! INTRODUCING SUPRESSED TECHNOLOGY ))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))* *GOOD FOR YOU!!! LMAO!!!! But let me show what Behringer, Yamaha, Digico, Avid, Digidesign, Presonus, Steinberg, Soundcraft, MixBus and many other DO NOT WANT FOR YOU TO SEE!* The only system that is *ANALOG SILK SHIMMERY SMOOTH and never crashes* , a (x25) Console Replacement, completely customizable, the only system designed from the ground up to work with a multi-touch monitor, The workflow ABSOLUTELY REPLACES THE NEED FOR FLYING FADERS, *RUN YOUR PLUGINS AND VST LIVE* and so Vastly much more all designed by the same man who invented the technology of MIXING A CONCERT EVENT REMOTELY from a laptop or IOS device..... You can even customize it to mix a stadium show... www.rmllabs.com/MainSite/sac-video.html

Great video sir! Thank you so much!!
Thanks!
looking forward for more content.
Anything in specific you want to see / learn about? Let me know what is interesting / would be helpful for you!
If you get a Midas stage box you will be in heaven!!!
I got a DL32 to go with it 😁 Super stoked for upcoming gigs
Give me an old school analog yamaha board. Yeah, they're heavy and hard to move around, and you don't have endless options (analysis paralysis) but they dont require a giant learning curve, you won't have software issues to contend with, or menu diving, or have to worry about it crashing. It just works, and does so immediately. Kind of important in live sound!......
Another analog benefit is robustness-fractionally fewer single points of catastrophic failure. If a channel dies, just use another one....
I started with a (albeit cheap / crappy) Behringer Eurodesk 24. It was an awesome little desk to learn on. I've unfortunately never had the pleasure to mix a show on a big-boy analog desk. I'd love to have that chance sometime!
Nice system rock
You are awesome dude...thanks for this video!!!
Thanks!!🙌
WIng Rack, DL32, DN4816-O. My first 8 buses are stereo IEM (via the DN), the rest are Subgroups and FX sends. Matrices are mono monitor sends (via the local outs). Mains are House, Fill, Extra Subs, and unused (via the DL) There's a lot to learn, but it's worth it.
I agree, so many ways to make it happen with these cool consoles. I'm stoked to put mine to work. 1 corporate gig down so far, and it was SO nice.
Great mixer i have it like 2 months and i love it not missing my X32 Producer.. the list goes one, 4 main, stereo, customization is beyond and ton of I/O just a great mixer.
Dope content! Subbed!
I guess since the m32 V2 didn’t come out at Namm I’m gonna go wing. i’m still worried though as a production company that it’s not gonna meet some tech riders. they almost always are ok with a m32. It’s the effects I mainly looking for so maybe I’ll go with the waves upgrade for my Midas.
I was hoping for new DAW controller gear at Namm too.. oh well. I'm sure as these new desk become more common and learned, they will be. A good ol M32 will probably always be an acceptable console to provide.
I will be buying a Wing Rack hopefully some time this year.
Great review... I can see your channel getting to 200k sub by next year if you continue like this! Just record every week something...you have a great voice and you know how to keep our attention!
switch barbers next
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Why bother with a comment like this? Hide behind your digital masked photo.
😅
Not cool man
Evan, nice video explaining you likes in detail...Making things easy to understand. You adviised that you can make to inputs into one stereo channel...How do you do that. I cannot figure it out?...
When in the routing menu, first select your channel, then unlock the channel with icon on the upper left half of the screen. Then, when you find the source you want to route from the right half of the screen, once selected, you see "Mono, ST, M/S" and just select stereo and it will automatically pair the neighboring source you selected and patch the two to the channel you have selected on the left half. Hopefully this helps! I'll have to do a video on the routing page maybe
What stagebox do you use? We have a band rack with Presonus 32R mix, which we use for mixing our IEMs on stage and simultaneously as a stage box for our Presonus 32SC. Big benefit is AVB communication - only 1 CAT needed. The rack mixer is a must for us, because we need 27 channels and we have only 2U space in the rack case - and we want to be independent on main FOH console with mixing our IEMs. Is there any way how to connect Wing Compact with Presonus 32R mixer? Solution with Presonus AVB-D16 converter I know, but it's not so Handy variant...
Two different ecosystems, 2 different digital protocols. PreSonus gear will not talk with Music Tribe gear. It will talk with Motu, however. Same thing though, is Music Tribe and Allen & Heath will not talk to each either. All 3 use different digital protocols.
I'm using a Midas DL32 now. The Presonus was great for the shared preamp / AVB capability, however the Behringer/ Midas ecosystem uses AES50 ( just another network based audio protocol) and does allow remote preamp control as well. You would need a wing console and a wing console and it would be able to accommodate the same situation. My band had done a few gigs the exact same way with a 32r and a Studiolive 24 console linked together. It was great!
in Canada, the desk, stage box and cases, you;re looking at $6 Grand
It looks like a cash register. Sorry, I know it's great.
Haha! I knowwww the only gripe I have is she is THICC 😅 lol
Hi you can post your mixing sessions in the behringer wing studio music production group in f book
Can I switch mixes via midi?
If you're talking about changing scenes with media triggers, I think so... otherwise I'm not sure. I don't use midi control or show control ever for the shows that I do. Hopefully you'll be able to find those answers
Nice setup! What case it's that ?
www.skbcases.com/products/iseries-2620-13-BE it's this one and I used foam mats to make a custom interior. It ain't pretty but it does the job. SKB has an actual wing insert in a case now too.
When the first Wing came out, the limited number of physical inputs on the back surprised me, especially it being the 'big board'. Great they addressed that on the Wing Compact, it looks like an awesome board. That being said, I recently bought a X32 Compact. It costs half the money, was in stock (vs around 2 months delivery time for the Wing Compact) and it can do everything I could ever want (and more) in my (fixed) home studio setup. But if I was looking for a new live board, the Wing Compact would be high on my wishlist.
I searched around and found them in stock at Alto Music in December 2024. Sweetwater told me they were backed up until like April 2025.. For me, the Compact is the best combo of size and local I/O
Makes my Digico SD9 look so long in tooth
Imo the best way to integrate Waves plugins is with a Midas M32C fitted with a waves card. this way ya get to keep the SD-Card recorder which is amazing for virtual soundcheck
The main reason why the console only costs 2500, is so you can buy 2 of them. So you will have a spare in case one will crash. And one will crash!! But feature wise, no console comes close. Great bang for you buck.
I was looking at getting the Presonus 32sc, Now i gotta watch some videos on this now... Great vid by the way
Don't get me wrong, the Presonus is great! I have been able to make plenty if shows sound good with them. They are user friendly and easy to pick up. If you are wanting some more flexibility, I/O, processing and effects, definitely look into the Wing consoles.
@ can you explain the more flexibility part. Thanks
Congrats - you will have a lot of fun with this fantastic board. Tomorrow night I have the next show with it and each time I am looking forward to the next show with this console. The versatility is so huge…..from small a capella choirs to rock bands up to bigband with 38 inputs - everything can be handeled and mixed with incredible sound.
Great introduction video ! Keep them coming
Anything in specific you'd like me to to cover?
@ I think I’m good for the wing, if you have any questions about it or if you want to do a Colab in my Engineer Talk serie, let me know
Congratulations. You will not be disappointed. I have had mine since November and it has performed flawlessly. I have been using it weekly at a local club. Finally paired it with a DL32, and have been using it with the stage connect rack units. Been a great investment.
I think the best thing about the new wing series is that you can put a wing rack in your stage rack with your wireless mics and in ears and use the wing rack as a digital stagebox + the band can change their own inear mix on stage with the build in touchscreen from the wing rack. Realy nice series off consoles
Nice! That's what my band does with our Presonus 24r and when I had the Studiolive 24 to link to it, we had the same setup where FOH shared the preamps. We mostly just use the 24r and I feed drivelines to the venue and our FOH guys mixes us off of our stagebox. It's been great for the shows we've done.
Welcome to the dark side! Thank you for explaining this console's benefits so succinctly. I've had the full size since it was released and the console keeps surprising me with the depth of features and well planned UI. The biggest issue I hear from pro audio engineers is about routing. Could you please do a video on how flexible the routing system is?
More hdl6 videos please 😔 I’m considering making the purchase but I’m back and forth with the hdl6 and 10
@Ramirez_Sound_Productions I'll add that to my list! I've been meaning to do a review on them! My immediate advice is only get the 6's if you can get AT LEAST 3 per side. I could never get the low-mid punch out of Snares and toms with 2 per side. You need enough boxes to couple the low-end / low mids to get any beef out of them. I haven't heard the 10's unfortunately, only the 6s and 20s. The 6s DO get intensely loud, and are very crispy and clear in the upper mids and highs, although I usually shelve them down / tame the high end a bit to flatten them out. Overall they are very impressive little boxes! Hope this helps.
