A lot of people compare 4014 to the Allegheny locomotives in terms of HP. While it's true the A had a higher HP rating by 500 HP, the Big Boy has a much higher adhesive weight and more tractive force than either the A or the Penn Q series.

It seems to me that this is the best place to ask a dumb question. I love steam engines obviously otherwise I wouldn't be here. Right so my question why couldn't we do something similar today but with something like liquid N2? I see advantages to steam it's just dead because of the inherent inefficiencies of exothermic combustion. It's a gross oversimplification I know but, I've always had this crazy thought if we could just make it more efficient and as simple as swapping out a tender of LN2 it might be more viable? Any Thoughts?

This was awesome for 4014 but also a reminder why Union Pacific does not like Blair Hill.

Not the first time that UP has used one of it's steam engines to assist a stalled diesel freight for 844 did it too.

Never underestame the power of a steam engine. It is remarkable seeing an old steam engine pushing a freight train.

Reminds me of the scene in Blackdog when the one driver is standing on the brakes and radios "JR, he's pushing me up the damn hill"

Surely someone has some information on this without ruining what the new owner is planning to do and there is currently no need to give the owners name. If its just going to be stuffed and mounted, I doubt anyone really cares. Otherwise, spring for a little info. And please move the camera slower and not so fast on the swing.

844 did something similar back in the day.3985 was used for some freight ops too after restoration. Nice to see 4014 stretching its muscles.
