Hockey Explained (NHL Playoffs, Conferences & Divisions, Wild Card System) [2023]
Is it tough to qualify for the playoffs in the NHL? In this video we’ll go over the regular season format, conferences & divisions, and the wild card system.

Are you new to hockey? If you want to start watching hockey, but you don’t exactly understand what’s happening on the ice, or what everything even is, then this video is for you! Hockey is an amazing sport, but without some context, it’s easy to get lost in the speed of the game. In this video we’ll talk about everything you need to know before you watch your first game. In this video we’ll be ...
People say offside in football is hard to understand, but in my opinion it's way more straightforward than offside, icing and hybrid icing in hockey.
Great video!
where is the french connection *5:51*
thank you for teaching me
I’m a new fan and you saved my ass with this I’m absolutely smitten with the sport without knowing much. It’s incredible honesty I still dont have a team tho😂f
No one keeps the Sabres out of the playoffs 14 years in a row!
Thank you I am trying to get into sports broadcasting and this helped a lot!
I'm Jacob Dover of Lewistown Montana l want to understand hockey more. I want my girlfriend Ellie Ford to understand hockey more and have her play hockey with me in Lewistown Montana ❤.
Thanks for this. I have a friend who is new to hockey, and this will help fill in the gaps where I either left out pr forgot something.
Doing this for my boyfriend 😭
The shorthanded icing neutralization only happens during a penalty kill. If the other team has an empty net so you're 5 on 6, its still icing
I'm a new hockey fan and thid just made me understand the game more than how my peers explain it to me, especially when it doesn't even snow in my country as to why we don't have ice hockey
cheers for this video, clearlyyyy taught me what offside and icing is, enjoying finally getting into hockey
Thank you... I saw another video and the guy was going WAY too fast
I’ve seen 3 NHL games so far and they’ve all gone to OT, one ending in a shootout. Great way to get introduced to a sport lol

I haven't watched hockey since 2003-04 being a fan of the red wings. That being said, I watched a local semipro team play hockey a lot and if someone were to dump the puck from their zone to opponent zone, if the goalie were to come out and get it in the corner sometimes (pre-trapezoid hash marks), the ref would waive off icing. As opposed to the goalie raising their glove to call icing. Is that still a thing? Was that ever a thing? Idk it's been 20 years 😂

Super helpful and informative for a new hockey fan! Thank you for making this video😍

I would only like to mention, that "configuration" of officials can vary depending on level of tournament. So mentioned attendance in video is the maximal one (but there were not mention video referee since by the rules he is also attendant at goalkeepers bamch) but there can be only two refs on ice and only two refs on goalkeeper banch. This can also vary depending on country. In Czech republic there is no more goalkeepers assistants delegated (as far as I know). Be at goalkeeprs banch during match is very interesting thing. Especially if you are delageted as penalty box attendant and the atmosphere on the ice starts to thicken. You can also learn a plenty of new words.
@@ao5139 this is awesome - thanks!
This helped me so much! All I knew about hockey is that it is "sorta like lacrosse" a sport I know well. I watched a couple of games, and while I could see the similarity in speed and setting up shots on goal - I just didn't how the players worked together (In my head they were missing a defensive player). This cleared up many of my questions. I will look for more of your videos to clarify my additional questions!
I’ve gotten into hockey about a year or so ago, and I’ve always wondered what the rules were.
You explained it so well
Shoresy sparked my interest.

I’ve been on this hockey rabbit hole for a while now and figured out The EHL is the best league in the world and Colorado Avalanche are my type of team
Me knowing how the NHL playoffs works yet am still watching a Video explaining it😂
I'm planning a road trip in North america in april/may of 2025 and am looking into if I can visit an NHL game in Boston, Montreal or Toronto somewhere in those months. Can anybody give me some advice? Is it dependend on whether or not those clubs reach play-offs for example? Would prefer may over april because of weather :) I'm also curious if I as a european can get acces to tickets easily (for example in my country for football matches you often have to be registered as a fan of that club).
What if both Goalies can't play?? Does a defenseman play Goalie.?
Mls?????
Are there specific rules on subbing out? Does the puck have to be in the offensive zone or do teams just do that so they don’t risk having no one back to defend?
Players change on the fly during the game. They just have to be smart with their changes, and make sure during this transition that they don’t have too many men on the ice. That would result in a minor penalty.
@@BenchWormSports thank you!
Good video!
Oilers's girl brought me here.....no regrets
