Night time fishing for snook. I caught some monster jack that gave me a good fight on light tackle. I forgot my headlamp so didn't record much. Took some nice-size lookdowns home.

Factory washers were felt. They were upgraded to carbontex washers.

It is just a little foam on the tracks to help you carry. They made a lot of changes since the original design, which is good. I love it when manufacturers listen to the consumers. I heard the parent company of Riot acquired vibe kayaks. We might see new design ideas from both companies.
Cool underwater footage. I always wanted to catch an angel fish. They're such a cool looking species. It's a wonder those parrot fish even exist. They seem so slow and stick out like a sore thumb. Nice jack you got there at the end. Night fishing on a yak without a light is a bit sketch.👍

Thanks! not expecting too much... sharing my opinion, so manufacturers can better their designs. I already upgraded to a Hobie Compass and now a Hobie Lynx. I am not ready for a boat yet. Thanks for watching.

You went from the cheapest peddle kayak to the priciest. Not a fair fight but it is still really good to hear a comparisons so people know what they are missing or paying for. Your videos are so jumpy better framing with you in the shot would really improve things. Appreciate the work.

Terrible kayak, I had one for less than on year and got rid of it. Took on so much water on the deck, everything was always wet! Upgraded to a Old Town Sportsman PDL ! Don’t waste your money on this. Spend the extra $400 on the Old Town!

Are you comfortable with using a pedal system canoe? Has the pedal system ever broken down? Is pedaling tiring? Does the canoe get water into it?
Yes, pedal system is comfortable but not efficient. There are more efficient systems like the Hobie Mirage pedal drive. No, Pedal system has not broker down on me. It could be tiring depending on the weight and distance. I have other videos on this kayak, I recommend you watch those first, it answers almost all you questions and more. Also read all the comments, they cover everything on this kayak. I sold this kayak years ago, so I no longer have it. Thanks!

Top of the list of Yaks and features.....You've definitely got all the bells and whistles installed!! The drive system reminds me of a Manatee with the underwater view....You can push along without damage to the system....Catch you on the flip with a Custom Shirt!!

Hey Ron, Thanks for your comment. It was good while I had it, but I did sell it over a year ago and got a Hobie Compass 2020.

@@MrEbmanii I just sold my Hobie compass last week. It is a much better kayak than the Mako 12. Hobie Mirage drive is much more efficient and the flip up fins feature is amazing for shallow water and flats fishing. I will list all the pros and cons below. Pros: Better storage (upgrade to rectangular hatch) Better handling Better turning More efficient drive Easy fish finder setup Better plastic Better warranty (made in U.S.A) Cons: Heavier than Mako Mako tad bit stable (maybe) More $$$ There are plenty of reviews out there for Hobie Compass. It is a well built and designed kayak. Hobie has one of best, if not the best drive. The biggest complaint everyone has is the price. You can find a video of me on the Hobie. Hope this helps.
@@Saltloony i'm glad i saw your video because i was thinking about purchasing the riot mako for cost. But i'm pretty set in my mind that i want a pedal drive anything under 2k. Keeping my options open, looking at jackson, old town, or hobie right now. Not quite sold on anything in particular yet.
@@MrEbmanii If possible, test them on water. A good dealership will have demo models that you can try out. Also look into resale value, if you decide to sell it, can you recoup most of the money.
Hi. , thanks for pointing out all your dislike and there are legit. I was just about to pull the trigger on the mako 10, But, will do more research now. Q- what sort of adapter do you use for your scooty rod holder for them to fit on the rail system.? Thank you and much appreciated.
I use a scotty gear head adapter. Thanks for your comment and best of luck with your new purchase. I won't recommend Mako anymore. Too many complains about company not answering or replying to warranty claims. Hobie Passport is tad bit more, but worth the money and the drive is more efficient.

How does it sit in water? High enough so water dont come over sides?
I think it is high enough, but still lower compared to other kayaks. I would say my hobie compass sits about the same height.
Good review. Looks like an improvement over the mako in some respects for sure. Those kickup fins seem pretty cool. Is that faster than the mako? I just added you on instagram. Custom shirt. 👍
Thanks for the add. Yes, those Flip-up fins are a game-changer. I do a lot of night fishing during the summer and aligning the prop to remove the drive on the Mako was a pain.
@@Saltloony I don't mind that too much. If I were more motivated I'd just get a piece of plastic and slide it down the side to stop the prop in the right position.
Nice Hobie. I had been curious about the Riot, but I went with the revo 13 instead. Hope to see more adventures from you.
Good decision. Riot was good for the price, but Hobie is at different level with their Mirage drive.
Pro trick : you can watch movies at kaldrostream. Me and my gf have been using it for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.

I always thought the scuppers were there to drain water that splashed over the kayak. To bad for this kayak. Price wise it beats hobbies but...I guess you get what you pay for. Thanks for an honest and excellent video.
I would stay away from this kayak. I heard numerous issues with the rudder and Riot won't respond to any emails. I would go with Hobie Passport, compass or Vibe Shearwater.

I heard the same, and did contact them with questions...no response. I bought a used Riot12 for $500 on Offer up. had 1 snapped rudder cable and a very loose pedal drive. I fixed both without needing dealer help. The rudder cable is simply a bicycle break cable. I actually just bought wire rope from the hardware store Vs. getting a cable that was too short etc. The pedal drive .......Well, The bearings are molded into the housing so not intended to be serviceable. The bearing races were there but no balls left in the bearings. I was able to buy sleeve bearings off McMaster Carr and tapped them into the old bearing housing, add a little epoxy for extra stability and all fixed. All in all I was able to repair the kayak for under $40. I suspect that I may need to replace the pedal bearings overtime and I bought some sealed bearings on Amazon for this repair but I didn't want to do a destructive fix for the 1st fix. Next time I will need to do some grinding to get the original bearing race out and replaced.

@@Saltloony I didn’t record it unfortunately. It was more of a trial that just worked 1st go. It’s working great but I have a feeling I will do a better repair down the road and I will record that as there is very limited if any discussion on this. I appreciate your videos!
I have 2 Mako Riot 12, both have problems with rudder . They lock up and don't want to turn. You ever had this issue.
No, I never did. Do you have newer rudder? One of my subscribers just broke his and Riot won't respond to his warranty claim.
I assume they are the new style. I bought them in April of this year. But they could be 2019. Either way they both don't work . Looked on TH-cam for a fix , but nothing on here.
