TREE STAND Locations | Setup & STRATEGY on 40 ACRE FARM
#deerhunting #buckfever #buckfeveroutdoors
In this episode, Noah explains the strategy and setups behind their tree stand locations on their family's 40 acre farm. On smaller parcels like this one, it can be challenging to hunt all year without spooking too many deer, making it very important to have multiple stand locations for each wind and to constantly make improvements and look for new spots. Come along for some summer deer chores and get some ideas for your own stand locations for this fall.

NEW Tooth of the Arrow SINGLE BEVEL | Broad Head REVIEW
How tall is this stand? Thanks!
@@TweepoDepot the inside is just over 6 feet tall. Once we stood it up, it was over 15 feet tall.
@@BuckFeverOutdoors So the stand without the blind would be about 9 feet tall?
The app on your phone shows ads even with a paid subscription, worse yet the ads are for their cameras (even though you already own one), pick another brand.
If you see a woodchuck set up in the habitat you created do you get rid of them.
I own the cabin in between north Albany and Austin’s wilderness lodge. Small world
Just grabbed one that was a dealer sample - barely used and absolutely loaded with EVERY option. QD Stabilizer, Matthews 5-Pin FO Microadjust sight, Arrow rest, etc. etc. etc... there is nothing that was left off. I have already shot 200 arrow through it - it is absolutely the smoothest, most forgiving bow that I have ever shot. Did I say it was quiet? Well it is. VERY quiet. I bought this for field archery competition, and I have no regrets yet. I just love to shoot, and I doubt I will hunt this bow, but if I did, I am certain that this will do the job quite well.
Is Remy a bench bread?
If your going to pattern or even compare patters i would use some sort of a rest. NEVER free hand your patterns my grandpops told me
How do you pull a shot in a sled sled? The gun is tuned to how you shoot it in a sled? That's just plain incorrect. Also, the reason some of those shots might be more sporadic in location is due to the lead sled itself. Recoil needs to go backwards. With the sled it can't go all the way back and instead will send the muzzle upward instead of backwards. Lastly you have a 3 shot group that is probably close to 2 inches. That would not instill confidence in me. If it's grouping like that at 100 what's it look like a 300 or even 500?
Best turkey video of the year imo. The excitement is why we do it!
Thank you! The kid’s excitement was contagious, even through the screen!
What a awesome video 👍 to have your kids share it with you is priceless. Congratulations on a nice bird!!
Thanks a lot! This will be a really cool memory for sure! Thanks for watching!
The hand warmers in the hat are a game changer! Definitely stealing that idea!
Ryan knows what he’s doing!!
Nice brown trout
Thanks!
Do you eat the rabbits?
Been using Longbeard XR in 3 and 3 1/2 for years, 3 1/2 i use in an 870 with Briley XF choke and the 3 i use Carlsons longbeard xr choke both have knocked the slobber out their beaks every time. They’re my personal favorite.
It’s about as deadly as it gets!
Congrats!
Thank you!!
Awesome footage. Just jigs and plastic huh? Any specific plastics?
Don't you mean nitro turkey not fire ?
Try it with no choke...
Wish I could see more of the bolt in action.
Yeah, I wish we would’ve included more of that. It’s definitely a little different but I love it!
I love the Winchester long beard XR
It hasn’t let us down yet!
You need another titer choke
What happens when it gets hit by your shot?
Ive never used a trail cam before. If I start with the base 100 free pictures and I go over that. Can I still go to the camera remove the sd card and view the photos that are over the 100 threshold? Or am I only able to view the photos on the app?
Yes, I believe you can still go to the camera and get the extra photos off the SD card!
Yesir!!! 💯💯
Priceless!😂🤣😅
🤣🤣
I’ve thought about using the Federal Grand Slam, but I just use longbeard xr 20ga. Hoping to get a bird this next weekend!
That Longbeard XR should do just fine! Good luck man!!
Thanks, you too
I worked for a state agency in a fish hatchery that reared sturgeon. A very difficult fish to raise when we started but we got much better at it over a number of years. They are a grand fish. They are slow moving and really not a challenge to spear. That fish is probably 20 -30 years old and could have lived to 100 or so. Where is the glory in killing that fish? I sure hope you at least ate it.
Hell I was just gonna go out with 2 3/4 number 6 shot think that’ll work lol
In most cases, that should do the trick!
Nice! This helped me a lot! Thank you
No problem! Glad we could help!
I shoot the long beard xr 6s out of the long beard xr choke and I’m lethal out to 50yd and this video really helped me out in making me decision thanks a lot!
Glad to hear it!! Thanks for watching!
Good comparisons here, you should get you a table and lead sled
That Mike Hilbert spear glides nice!
It sure does!
@BuckFeverOutdoors I've Had the same one for sometime now. How did you do This past season out on the scary ice? For us it was more action that 28yrs of spearing combined. Tagged out Saturday opening day, 65# 68" i speared all 16 days. I couldn't imagine 3,000+ shacks on the south end it would have been repeat of 2004 massacre!
@@scottncorey88 congratulations!! Sounds like a great season! We didn’t make it out, unfortunately. Hopefully next year!
I use Winchester Longbeard ER, 3 inch, 12 gauge, #5 shot, shooting a Mossberg 835 mag, with a Tru-Glo gobble dot, mounted on a pic rail. Good tight patterns at 50 yards! 😊 By the way, choke is a Carlson's 0.670. The only thing I've done differently is added o-rings to keep caps on W/E from coming off, due to recoil! Scope and caps being camo, hard to find a cap in thick grass! Lost one, but Tru-Glo sent another set at no cost, then put o-rings on at base of turrets! No more lost caps!
Sounds like we have a very similar setup! I hope they bring each of us some luck this season!
I am impressed with your marksmanship, however here is a suggestion to consider for evaluating Turkey Loads. Optics on your shot gun will allow you to adjust your shots to zero on your target for each brand. Every brand, & different loads within that brand will print differently on your target. Optics will allow you to correct the variations. Next, for eliminating variables caused by the shooter, get a steady rest to zero your shotgun & for testing various loads. FYI, my son shoots the Winchester XR, & I shoot the Federal GS in 3”, both are very effective. Nice to know the Federal GS patterns well enough to shoot out to 50 yds. Have not tried to shoot that far, but I can recall a time or two that it would have come in handy to know.
Thanks for sharing those great tips! I think for this video our goal was to really keep things as simple as possible to be more relatable to the weekend turkey hunter who doesn’t have an expensive gun, or a fancy red dot sight, or anything like that. Trying to find the best affordable option for someone who doesn’t go too crazy with their setup. Best of luck to you and your son this season!! Thanks for watching!
Why are comparing ammo free hand ???
Using a rest would’ve definitely improved accuracy, but then there’s really no point in doing the test at all because every shot would be identical. It seemed more important to test the ammo in a more “realistic” shooting scenario with no rest, to see how forgiving each load would be when the shooter has more of an impact on the trajectory. If you make a perfect shot with any load, the result will be deadly. It’s the loads that still kill the bird even when you don’t make a perfect shot that are truly the best.
How long before the pallets rot down to the point the rabbits cant access?
Usually, they will last for years! Even if the wood starts to go bad, rabbits can still use it for a long time.
Federal grand slam has been my go to. I agree 5 shot is the sweet spot.
The federal grand slam would probably be my second pick if I couldn’t find long beard xr anywhere!
Any update?!?
We see rabbits in and around these “castles” all the time!
@@BuckFeverOutdoors Good to know I built several of these yesterday but also threw some small salt block pieces around. According to the American beagler giving rabbits salt pays dividends for their reproduction.
Testing lead shot patterns in below freezing temps will net poor results
Never heard that before but you might be on to something! I wonder if that was causing some of the patterning issues.
@@BuckFeverOutdoors atmospheric conditions like temps effect ballistics. Though all the loads were tested in the same temp so that’s a good control, just know the load will improve when temps are warmer
@@henrybright8531 that is very good to know!
Nice hunt it looks like you guys had a lot of fun. God Bless you.
We certainly did! You as well! Thanks for watching!
Terrable camera l had nothing but problems and their over sea,s call centre sucks they off of a script same bull sd card, batteries, they dont have a clue Very poor in all aspects
That sucks man! You’ve had a very different experience than us! These are by far the best cell cameras we have ever used. They are a huge upgrade from the older SpyPoints. I actually bought another Flex G36 today. Whatever camera you use, I hope it works well for you!
Good job man
Thank you!
You absolutely need a gun rest rig.
We thought about using a gun rest, then we decided in real life you don’t get to use a rest, so doing it this way would be more “realistic.” Honestly, looking back on it, we regret doing it this way and wish we would’ve used a rest! Hopefully, you can still get something out of this test!
Oh also, I want to give this bit of advice to anyone, only because we're going through it as we speak.. I love the XR's... shot them for years.. BUT... it's good to find another shot that gives you the results you desire out to the yardages you expect to shoot.. because, as we are going through right now, we can't get the Longbeard XR's anywhere.. went to all 5 shops in our area, they're all backordered and can't get any in, probably not in time for season.. so... do your due dilligence and test out other brands and sizes of shot, just as an insurance policy so to speak
That is great advice! It’s always good to have a backup plan!!
@@BuckFeverOutdoors thanks.. I only started that mentality a few years ago when, same as right now, we had a shortage of Longbeard XR's in our area so I panicked.. I tried 2-3 different shells and they were horrible.. thankfully we got the XRs in just before season so I was happy.. this year, I have to find another shell as a back up.. I got the Double X's because our shop here has them in 3" .. I have my youngest boy (12) as a first year hunter under the Ontario Apprentice Hunter program and I am sure he won't like the 3 1/2".. lol.. I did want to say great video too... I saw the Federal Grand Slams here so I may go back today and pick up a box just to see how it handles through my gun ( Remington 887 Nitro Mag) and my Carlsson Long Beard XR ported turkey choke in .660...
@@budgetbirder thank you! Good luck this season!
@@BuckFeverOutdoors thanks so much.. best of luck to you as well
I've managed to get Winchester Longbeard, 3 inch, 5 shot, 12 gauge at Cabelas!
sadly, to properly test these shells you'd have to also try different chokes.. I had a Jellyhead in my gun and it did okay, so I thought.. until I changed to a Carlsson and wow, talk about a much better result.. each gun will handle each load differently, but the gun and choke combo will be the ultimate decider.. your set up on this test may handle the XR's perfectly, but change to a Jeb's or any other choke, or change the size of the choke ( say a .680 to a .640) is also going to yield different results.. I am going through this right now ( or I did) when I got this Remington 887 Nitro Mag.. like I say, the Jellyhead was in it and my dad loved it.. I put in the Carlsson and like I said, it's amazing the difference..
The choke certainly makes a huge difference! Maybe more than some people realize!
@@BuckFeverOutdoors oh I hear ya.. even more than I realized when I first got into it about 22 years ago.. I just bought a "cheap"' choke that fit the gun and went out thinking they all shot the same.. wow, was I wrong.. so many types and styles, so many sizes, it's unreal once you scratch the surface.. BUT it gets so expensive if you opt to take the entire process and figure out what type, style ( ported or non-ported), size of choke and try to match it to the gun AND the load.. it can be expensive and rather exhausting.. lol
You got to come up to Armstrong Ontario Canada. The Little Jackfish River. Phenomenal intense walleye fishing. You can catch well over 200 to 300 fish each person a day easally. With a very good average size and weight
Sounds like a great time!!
Save money just use them 2 3/4" pheasant loads #6 or 7.5 shot copper plated get 25 in a box
Great video! If you make another please get some videos of the cabins and the resort.
Thank you! Absolutely, we will!
Has this target held up since the making of this video?
Yes! Extremely well in fact! We shoot quite a bit especially in the summer and you can tell it’s been shot a bunch, but no chunks missing, stops arrows just as quickly as it did when it was brand new, and not showing any signs of wearing out any time soon!
@@BuckFeverOutdoors thanks for the feedback. My son's crossbow has really tore up the homemade target and I shoot heavier arrows so definitely looking for a good sight in target.
Got it...thanks for the review. Stops arrows great. Pulls out not too bad ! Thanks for the review
