The brass instrument that is not usually played in the brass band is the french horn as it's played in orchestras.
As a Queensbury man and the son of a former euphonium player I am proud to say I have lived my life in the company wonder and joy.Thank you Stehpen.
Excellent post.many thanks.incredible these buildings survived 🙏🏼
My fath'er alus said it was where folk had to go to 'live o'er brush' 😂
What bricks???! I see no bricks🤦🏼♂️unbelievable
Wow, Never thought I’d see this again, I was sitting on 2nd trom for this, Youth banding at its very best, great times.
This is a blast from the past. Craig was one of my very best friends at the RNCM from 1988 on when we both arrived there to start our 4 years of study. Also interesting to see Martin Winter and his partner, Liz Philpott, in the audience watching the workshop, both of whom were also students at the RNCM back then. Liz was already there and Martin started on the same day as Craig and me. Thanks for sharing.
Well done the village band.
Brian Evans on sop LEGEND
I'm really interested what make of instrument he was using . Perhaps one of the first Sterling sopranos made ? By the way he was indeed a legend !
that might not be a bad guess. remember having a go on one around that sort of time@@Mark64W
Brian Evans wot a player he was gone to soon
Awesome playing and sound for both band and the audio recording. How anyone can follow Derek's conducting is beyond me though 😂
He was a dance band leader for many years and when conducted light stuff like this , that was his style . I had the honour of playing for him quite a few times and he was much more straightforward on serious pieces .
I remember this from when it was first broadcast! Here we are in 2023 and Black Dyke are National Champions again, playing a fine test piece written by Edward Gregson in the 1980s rather than the 1880s. It is wonderful to see brass bands still popular and performing at such an excellent contest and venue (the RAH). I was very happy to be playing there again this year, although in a different band to Dyke.
Interesting lecture. I remember fondly rehearsing and playing Gregson's D&A at the Albert Hall (1984) finals with my own band.
Wow! Love your page! Let’s connect?
Great video! Who's the principal?
David Smith was principal.
Who are those two blokes on trombone with Brighosue at 2:50, are they twin brothers?
Fletch plays the bumblebee cleaner than any tuba player ever has.
A good little video eh.
Hi very much enjoyed this program. Was it part of a series on Brass Bands or a series on Music? And were you the narrator/reader? Sadly Black Dyke came 6th in the National Finals in 1984.....
As far as I know this was just one of a series of programmes as part of the Open University courses and probably the only one that looked at brass bands. I'm not the narrator! That is Trevor Herbert. I was still at school when this was on TV and avidly listening to and watching as much as I could about bands as I'd just started playing in a band myself.
Trevor is still with the OU, he is Emeritus Professor of Music. @@stevearley
Wenn auch nur irgendetwas schön ist, dann ist es das hier ...well done
Lead trumpet is on point ! 🇺🇸
Other than tuning, tone, production quality, and tidiness of the desk behind me, fairly happy with that for an afternoon of work.
I played that a lot when I was in the Army band.....loved that march....
Uou, isso é incrível!!❤
Poorly recorded.
Agreed, just from a fixed position SD camcorder. Multi microphone audio and HD video would have been great but we didn't have that equipment available.
Such a beautiful brass band arrangement suitable in church for a sad occasion.
Sir Hugh Roberton 1874-1952 composed this after his young wife died-he shared his pacifist, socialist beliefs with another Scot who alsolost his wife young James Ramsay Macdonald P.P.in the 20,s and 30,s. Sir Hugh gave the eulogy at the grave of another pacifist socialist James Maxton in 1946. For those who love this melody ,hear the beautiful choral performance from his Glasgow Orpheus choir-i,m aware many youngsters under 30 will have never heard of him so i,m trying to help them locate more recordings. He also introduced some of his recordings in a peaceful brogue -such a contrast to the noise rabble rousers we hear today 2019 both sides of the ocean like the abhorrent nasty T.R. and D.T..
Loved organising this concert!
Would love to hear you play the theme from Band of Brothers, music from a U.S. television series of some years ago.
How beautiful...
that is really beautiful thanks steve
nice l wish that my band was as good as yours
This sounds amazing!
Fantatistic sound :)
