I absolutely love all the rock scrambling but what's up with that tight section in the middle of mile 5? Almost looks like a bushwhack. OMG, now a Catskills view? OMG! Am I overusing OMG?? I can't believe I've never heard of this place. My jaw is literally hanging right now. I must go! When you were on the carriage road, I thought that was going to be the end of the views, NOPE! Oh, and throw in a wonderful lake view for good measure. This hike had it all. You hit the fall color timing just right. I don't have any specific long routes to share - but in general terms, i love the trip from Roxbury to Far Hills on the back roads: Dover Chester Road, North Road, Roxiticus. Really gorgeous, with some multi-million dollar homes in the Mendham area. In Passaic, the back roads from Route 23 to Hewitt (Greenwood Lake) are stunning, just drove that on Thursday. Norvin Green State Forest area too. But again, I never tried to create a route so I can't say more. Bergen - I have nothing except to say the Ramapo area near the college is beautiful. I have been so looking forward to this list! You did a fantastic job explaining your ranking methodology and your footage at each location is just amazing. I have been to all but one of these locations (Horsepond). I will not argue Racoon Ridge as #1. I've been there twice. The first time, it was our destination, and we had it to ourselves, and it was wonderful. The second time was during our AT section hikes and I was so looking forward to including some great footage as we passed through. It happened to be during the hawk watch season, so the rock pile was completely taken over by those folks and there was no chance of our group getting any fun shots around there and I was pretty disappointed. I was not at all expecting the Bearfort Ridge view to be in your top 3 but I can see now why it is. I'm hoping to get back to Wyanokie soon. I love Norvin Green and I'm trying to put together a playlist of hikes there. I have a hike to Van Slyke Castle in Ramapo Forest next weekend. I haven’t hiked this in a couple years because of the large crowds but I have a weekday off now in my schedule so I may copy you and go super early one day to try and avoid that. 4 years ago on a humid July Saturday. I parked in the visitors center lot on the east side of 80 and hiked across the bridge and up mount minsi. Then came back and crossed the highway and hiked up mount Tammany back to back. To get the best perspective of the view. The off trail ledge is more expansive of a view. But it’s off trail and not easy to find. I can show you one day If you want. It’s funny I’ve probably been to those vista like 20plus times. And I’ve only run into bear poop but yet to run into an actual bear on the trail lol. I’d still give wild cat ridge a look before you end your list. It’s an easy short hike and they may be staring the hawk watch there soon. And the northern section of norvin green state forest that goes to lake Sonoma then up to overlook rock and then to maniticut point.
