Fara Kanna Bushcraft is a small family owned outdoor education facility operating out of West Yorkshire, England.
We began making these videos as an online resource for our customers during the third lockdown (UK) of the Covid19 pandemic as a way of continuing to interact with our participants who attend the school at Fox Covert.
Over time this transformed into regular uploads covering a variety of outdoor topics & skills that may be applied in a woodland setting.

The Recovered Camping Footage | Cooking & Camping
So our original plan was to record & document Augest 12ths overnight event Cooking & Camping
We filmed far more footage then we would ever need but sadly afterwards the majority of the files became corrupted & were unusable
It seemed a shame not to upload what was recovered so here it is
Sorry of it seems a little disjointed or incoherent but that's all that could be salvaged
Fingers crossed for better luck next time around
COOKING & CAMPING
Here our participants joined us for an evening under the stars. Upon arrival visitors setup their own little campsite for the evening utilising theor own preferred sleep systems before joining the one & only Hunter Gatherer Scavenger Cook to prepare a beautiful venison ragu in a red wine reduction served with flatbread and gnocchi. All food was prepared on site by our participants under the supervision of Tony Matshall
Once everyone was fed and watered they settled in for a night among the trees & wildlife on a hot Summer's night
A huge thank you to everyone who came to spend the night with us & to consenting to being in this video, sorry if your footage was part of that which was lost

EDC Emergency Shelter
มุมมอง 6353 ปีที่แล้ว
Last time we made reference to the 4x4 tarp not really being an EDC, so this time around we're delving into the daysack to finally see whats in there We feel an EDC shelter needs to be light, space saving & versatile so with that in mind, here we're looking at making a simple emergency shelter using a military poncho & playing about with the bothy shelter We know this is turning into a tarp cha...
A-Frame Tarp Shelter & a Siberian Hitch
มุมมอง 5813 ปีที่แล้ว
With the Summer coming to an end & the weather setting in we thought it would be a good time to look at a traditional A-Frame tarp shelter Here we're using a 4x4 DD tarp to create a flying A-Frame. We find the benefits of the shelter being elevated result in a more comfortable setup, you're know having to crouch, there's plenty of room overhead & using the 4x4 means there's plenty of room for a...
Fire Using a Folding Saw
มุมมอง 2163 ปีที่แล้ว
It's hardly revolutionary but here it is, using a folding saw to help you create fire. The spine of most folding saws has that 90° spine that we're looking for when striking a ferro rod & let's be fair you're more than likely carrying one when carrying out any kind of woodland task. Here we're using the spine of the saw rather than the striker that comes provided with the ferro rod. We find it ...
Silver Birch Fire, Cups of Tea & the Rifle Range - Behind the Scenes (July 21)
มุมมอง 913 ปีที่แล้ว
I'm forever grateful for the access to the land I have & it is because of days like today. I'm fortunate enought to have the opportunity to play in a beautiful woodland setting. So I headed up to Fox Covert & first things first... fire. The fire was constructed wholly from Silver Birch, the logs processed down for kindling & firewood while it's bark stripped & used for tinder. Up next, I was go...

Making Natural Cordage from Nettles
มุมมอง 923 ปีที่แล้ว
The Summer is nearly in full swing & with it it's brought a ton on mosquitoes! However it's also helped the nettles shoot up while we've been away, some of them are reaching up to five feet So with an abundance of new resources at our fingertips we figured we best do something with them Here we look at identify, harvesting & processing nettles for the purpose of creating natural cordage Join us...
Campfire Cooking, a Simple Camp Setup & a Very Lazy Sunday - Behind the Scenes (June 21)
มุมมอง 783 ปีที่แล้ว
We realise how lucky we are to have access to Fox Covert & it's wonderful to share it with all our participants but sometimes it's important to slow down & take some time for yourself. Saying that this weekend my Wife & I did just that. Steady camp setup, hammocks in the late Spring sun & dinner on the go... ... It's the little things
Traditional Plough Point Tarp Setup 3.5x3.5
มุมมอง 1.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I know this is slowly turning into a tarp channel but we're nearly done with the various setups & we'll move onto something different soon. This time around we've got the 3.5x3.5 back out & were putting up a simple, traditional plough point tarp shelter. This is my personal favouite and go to setup, it's really easy, goes up super quick, no fancy knots needed & minimal equipment. It offers good...

Transform a Lean To into a C Fly Wedge
มุมมอง 1.2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
We're back playing with the 3x3 again. This time around we're setting up a simple Lean To tarp shelter and discussing it's pro's & cons. Then with a couple of simple adjustments transforming it into a a C FLy Wedge offering us a little more protection from the elements & a lot less visibility. With our upcoming Shelter & Overnight Camp events on the horizon we'll do one or two more tarp setups ...

Simple Fire Wood Processing with a Fixed Blade
มุมมอง 1363 ปีที่แล้ว
Simple Fire Wood Processing with a Fixed Blade
Great idea I wish I had used this last year with a lady friend when using my small with sloped entry to foot box area yet roomy 1 person 2 wall 3 season tent that took time setting up with poles, guy lines, rain fly (that leaked when it rained lol) when it was getting dark! I like the built in floor because now I’m just using my Lanshan Mier rain fly without the bug netting for more room & 1 pole like yours but no floor with mine means a colder inside for me so I’ll try this in a smaller configuration because I’m just solo use & smaller lighter tarp is better I’ve pitched a poncho & clear plastic shower curtain ($ store $1.25) or painters floor cloth $1 cheap as a front door to see out of & hold in the heat plus really no added weight with a ground cloth but wind comes in around the lower to ground clearance areas with that pitch This will be a nice alternative for sure in what a 7’x7’ or 8’x8’ ? If you have a smaller version I’ll check it out…Thanks!
Great video
Brilliant!!! Was just cursing my old fingers 🤦
I think I would want to tie the flappy bits forwards in order to have a tiny bit more privacy.
Very good thanks ❤
I really like this one. Thanks for sharing the idea!
Nice water collection device
I use an external bipod to free up the interior space. It's not that much more work, however, trekking poles are too short so just have to cut another pole and make both long enough to reach. External tripods and quadripods would do but really aren't necessary. I add a bug net and poncho vestibule. Really good video.
how big is a tarp ?
Great video!!! Uery useful information. Greetings from the US.
Why would you use the groundsheet to collect water and/or dew etc and direct it into your gear inside your shelter? Have you actually slept in this shelter overnight in the rain? I have. Bring your groundsheet back into the tent and close the front portion up, keeping the weather outside.
Just come from a post on Facebook.. I love my tarps I have a 3x3 dd an need to know more set ups
Excellent stuff, especially for a tarp virgin like myself! 😂✌️
Nice job but use a tennis ball cut a hole in it for the pole 😉👍
Love it.
Great set up buddy. Liking that you're using natural resources to construct the tent. Liked and subscribed
Looking forward to trying this one with my 10' oilskin tarp but will probably hitch the front floor section up against the support pole to keep it out of the dew/rain once bedded down for the night. Thanks for sharing
1. That's not actually a rope, it's a line which has been cut from a rope. 2. Below 5/16" , the term cordage shall apply. 3. There's no working part , it's either the RUNNING or standing part. Good demo, thanks very much indeed.
Thank you for the video Obi-wan kenobi.
Shelters are quick and simple to build when you have a tarp with you. So often we see people building shelters, with stones and logs, or digging extravagant under ground hobbit type dwellings, when all they really need is a tarp! I bought a DD tarp many years ago, and use it occasionally for a quick bit of shelter during summer months. It’s been great. I have a 3 season lightweight tent which serves for everything else, what’s all this nonsense we see, with people digging and chopping and building? Have they nothing better to do? Thanks for the vid. B
What size tarp would one need for a 6ft high version of this kind of tarp tent?
saludos bonito trabajo un refugio y con piso es de lo mejor
Those side flappy panels can even be untied at night and bought together to form a rudimentary door on the front for a little more shelter .. that's what I do with my 3 x 3 dd .. works a treat ❤
I can't hear you talking on your video you have to do something about the volume sorry I had to give it a thumbs down
Awesome trick, thank you sir! Subbed
Sad I couldn't hear you well enough so moved on to the next one
I like the pitch, a tent with a floor. Yes, I've "Liked" & "Subscribed" & rang the notification bell. AquaQuest Safari 10'x10' in Woodland Camo is my tarp with a 5,000 Hydrostatic head so I KNOW it will keep me dry. Your DD Tarp has a 3,000 HH & is slightly larger than my tarp. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada U.S.A.
what size and type of tarp is that and is it fully waterproof
DD Tarp, 3.5 x 3.5 with a 3,000 HH
Neat little tip if you are just fed up with knots and just want to be done for the day.
Superb 🤠
Never thought i´d watch a video of Obi-Wan teaching me to pitch a tarp. I love the internet.
I didn't catch what size tarp this is, is this a 4x4?
3.5x3.5
Until it rains....
😊thank you for showing that in such a way that I could happily follow along!! I put my hammock up for the first time this week and I stood by the tree for a while trying to remember how to do it😅 so thank you again for your instruction!
Thanks for sharing this tip (works nice)
I wonder if you could make a door with another but smaller tarp.
Make the door out of mosquito netting.
👍
Nice char bundle there!
Nice one Obi Wan!
Very smart
Is there a good way to combine this with a hammock, for ground use? I need a way to use my hammock in camping grounds where there are no trees.
Hi might I suggest you add a small sheet of clear plastic painter drop cloth to your tent large enough to cover the opening. Placing a fire 3 ft or 1 meter away will convert it from an open tarp tent into a super shelter. Obviously a reflector behind the fire would be preferred to focus as much of the fire's heat onto the shelter as possible. The plastic sheet only need to be taller and wider than your opening. The additional weight would be very minimal. Another addition that could help is using a disposable emergency blanket as a rear wall heat reflector. I should add as a caviot that I use a lavvu but have used this method with it down to Temps from 32-17 degrees Fahrenheit. That the coldest it gets in my area on extremely rare occasions maybe once in a decade or longer. I slept through most of the night only waking twice to feed the fire.
Thank you, that's a perfect shape. Low foot print and floored.
The birds are louder than you. Adjust the audio level or get a wireless mike.
What an awesome piece of woodland! Unfortunately I cannot wild camp in the Netherlands. About to get a hammock....going to test it on a woodland campground in the area! Stoked to get into hammocking!
Huge tarp!! Awesome....love the tarp tent setup. Also for the 3x3. Now I need to get me a tarp lol and practise! Cheers from new subscriber from the Netherlands
Very good skill to learn
I'd bet real money the occupant rolls around in the night and takes out the ridge pole
Excellent Tarp Tent with floor. New sub. Keep up the fine videos
Cheers buddy, thanks for watching ✌️ 🌳
