Testing a distributor without running the engine
I wanted to see why this Jaguar XJS would not rev past 3000RPM. my suspect was the distributor pickup. This is an easy way to test that!

when you get a foot of snow, then another foot falls off the roof, you need 4WD and ground clearance.

9.5 miles after a lot of rebuilding things and sitting for 35 years, I attempt to flog the lotus for everything it has.
Your distributor design looks similar to that of Chrysler's or Ford's, which leads me to believe that the problem might simply be the gap between the reluctor wheel and the pickup. If it's adjustable, look-up the factory spec, and use a set of brass feeler gauges to set it. But before you do, disconnect the leads and remove the pickup, to check the internal resistance of it. If it's out of or near the edge of specs, replace it with one that falls within them and proceed to set the gap. Btw: Is the ignition module separate from the engine's computer management? If so, try replacing it with a known functional one and see what happens.
It's got a new ignition module. The car runs, just loses spark past 3000 RPM. I'll try the resistance trick, but I already have plans on replacing the pickup coil with a known good one.

Very very nice
Those oldschool Torqueflites have such quick, snappy shifts. Love it 🤙🤙
That was faster than I expected to see it go
413 power baby!
WHAT THA HECK DO YOU MEAN 300L!?! 🤔😂
I like that new windshield
That's actually pretty impressive for 225 slant 6.
If a good for what it is. Have fun.
"PromoSM"
I could feel that shift through the screen
It wasn't even that bad?
Reminds me of the movie Duel. I can imagine that this car is being chased by a souped up diesel semi truck
did she chirp in 2nd
Next time take the rag and the screwdrivers off the dash ....speedo a little jerky
I like the rag there...
thats acceptable in todays world.enough to blend in from a merge ramp.
3 hours of wheelspin
I cooked and ate dinner by the time it shifted into second.
🤣
thing takes longer to shift than my insurance rep getting back to me about the car i totaled while texting and drunk
it does that normal driving too. I wonder if there is a shift kit for these
@@aaronloggan2197 ya that would prolly give it more of a speed boost than doubling the power 😆
HELL YEAH.
Nice pull! Amazing how long these old Mopars can sit.. get found and run again! The blocks don't lock up in a couple yrs, like Brand X cars. Btw, if you still have this car, I do have a '66 Newport parts car. Pretty sure the windshield is fine. The typical clear glass with the blue tinted upper area. p.s. In the rain, a C bod Mope will ofc spin the right tire on takeoff.. let it spin on the primaries and right when it hooks & hits 2nd, floor it. It'll grab 1st & the leaf springs will take that torque and plant the tires and she'll hook & book! I used to do it, often..it never failed. Surprised a lot of ppl..them in a 4x4 or awd veh and they'd be pulling away a bit bc off the line traction, then id do my thang and zoom..smoke 'em..the 440 w/a Thermo-Quad roaring as i passed them, ahahaha.
You sir are a driver I can tell by the way you explained everything. I’m 34 and my dad and I built a couple of chevelles and Camaros over the years and everything you mentioned just now, I’ve heard verbatim come from my dad. He’s not a big mopar guy at all, but I am, I love looking for power in places or things, other people have cast aside. I have an 06 300C that I just adore, power for days and the luxury and comfort ability of a Cadillac. I honestly would drive this one until the wheels fall off and I decide to get a newer one.
More like 30 to 60
I was completely stopped. I remember, I was there!
"Slanty"...LOL😅
mine was a lot throatier than that. 318 dual ex 4 sp drop a 318 in it.
This one is getting a 318 this spring
0-60 in 12 secs...yep... that's a slant six
Pretty fast for being in neutral 😂
that 904 is magical!
That's actually not bad.
The 0-60 is still faster than my truck😂😂😂 takes about 10 seconds for me 😂😂😂 03 Ford expedition 4.6l V8.
Pulls pretty good in neutral. lol Long live the slant 6! I need to get mine back on the road.
yeah I eventually got the shift linkage bushing for it. now it Pulls in D!
Cherry
The old chaff cutter
Love the planetary whine of the torqueflite
Hauls ass good
Leaning tower of power, love those engines.
imagine buying a new car, letting it sit in a field for 40 years and coming back to find a pile of burnt plastic on the ground. they just dont make cars that last anymore.
You know cars aren't actually made of plastic, right?
@@EssenceofPureFlavorthey are, just ask 1990s GM 😅
225 slant six was a great motor, couldn't kill it as long as you put a quart of oil in with every fill-up after 60/70 thousand miles.
1964 imperial with the 413 B-block was my first car. Man I love the land yachts of old. A high school kid bought it and put the motor in a Dodge Dart. It was nasty.
Nasty good or nasty bad?
@@holden4111 nasty good! That thing was a monster.
my dad owns your house and truck
I'm going to need to see a picture now!
first car 68 newport 2 dr 383 2 barrel just a thought i would shift out of 1st a 65 mph constantly
The CHP units, Dodge Polaras of the 1963-65 era, ran the 413 360 hp motors
This one also one with the early electronic fuel injection?
Nope, 413 with a Carter AFB
I think your exhaust may be damaged
That's normal, old cars didnt have catalytic converters back then.
like the windshield.....kinda reminds me of my ride.
do you drive it that way a lot? I'm hoping to get it fixed sooner than later
@aaronloggan2197 i drive mine daily and i keep saying, "ill fix that next". 😆😆
I’m looking at Hemi swapping an 86 or 87 d250 long bed do you have any information that could help me out
Start by looking through the other comments. Then stay tuned, I'm going to make a more detailed video of how I built it sometime soon
Hi! Really cool!!, im doing the same here in México, can u help me with info about ur swap please, thanks! My swap will be in a 89 w150 Ram with 5.7 hemi 2010
I'll help if I can!
🇰🇼🖐😂
Where did you get the engine mounts?
built them myself
Sounds great and seems to move out in a hurry for what looks original from 1965 nice work 👍
What did you pull the engine out of and what oil pan did you use? There's nothing on swapping hemi's into W's and I'm planning the same but have ready oil pans and stuff exhaust are issues when trying to make it all fit.
it's from an 03 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD. stock oil pan. has stock manifolds but had to make a custom y pipe because the transfer case is RH drop. still has cat and running stock ECU.
Transmission shifts well. I think you have a chip in windshield. Just saying.
you barely notice it!
Just a hairline crack
Those go away on their own after you drive a while
Yep dirt fills it in I guess.@@rojoperro310
Some windex will fix that
