What's up! I'm a cyclist living in San Diego sharing my experiences on and off the bike (mostly on). My goal is to share with you what I do right, and what I do very, very wrong in races of all types including crits, road races, and who know what else. Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes and maybe some of my successes. I also aim to show you around my home and if you ever visit San Diego or SoCal make sure to give me a shout and let's burn some rubber. Lastly, any cool tech I discover, training platforms I use, and anything else that I might think is valuable I'll share that with you all also. Don't forget to Subscribe to the channel and I hope you enjoy!
THIS Is The Future Of Bike Racing - Formula Fixed 2024
Last weekend I headed up north from San Diego to Los Angeles, California to spectate a brand new bicycle racing series to be held across the United States in 2025.
Formula Fixed is a fixed gear short track bike race on an indoor, technical kart racing track. This takes not only fitness, but skill and a no fear attitude. There is bumping, there is crashing, and the crowd was insane. I firmly believe Formula Fixed could be the future of bike racing in the United States.
This event, specifically, was the showcase event. I was lucky enough to be invited and secure a media pass to get behind the scenes and up close and personal with the action. While I know most of my content here on TH-cam is traditional criterium racing, I do have background racing track and love a good fixed gear bike race. Full gas, no brakes is the way to be.
This event was the who's who of the cycling industry and so many big hitters were out to race. It was so exciting seeing all these super capable individuals from so many different backgrounds compete to win.
Eventually, the expansive category was won by Alec Briggs out of the UK riding for Tekkers. The defined category was won by Li King from the bay.
The format of this bike race is so unique with qualifiers, etc.

In this video I breakdown the 2024 Ritte Espirit in the Velvet and gold color way. This is my race bike for 2024 and most likely the 2025 crit racing season. Of course, this is a Team Race Bike, and most of the equipment on this whip is courtesy of sponsors. However, I did get the opportunity to transfer over some key components that I really love and felt with customize this road bike just rig...

Today I'm breaking down yet another Southern California Criterium Race that took place in Costa Mesa, CA this past weekend. Crit Racing is usually a battle of sprinters but in this particular case it was relentless attacking and chasing a 3X National Time Trial Champion who rolled the solo break away from around 10 minutes into the race. I talk through my role in this crit race as I ride for Ju...
Negative Team Tactics Are Lame - 2024 Barrio Logan Grand Prix Pro 1-3
มุมมอง 7053 หลายเดือนก่อน
Recently we raced the 2024 Barrio Logan Grand Prix in Southern California. This is one of my favorite, more technical criterium courses and in my opinion one of the most fun races that happens here in SoCal. In this race I was designated to hangout in the pack or follow moves as needed as my teammate Ansel wanted to roll the breakaway and had a good shot at winning from that move. I was able to...
2024 Ritte Espirit Bike Build
มุมมอง 1.3K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
I recently got my hands on my brand new team bike, the 2024 Ritte Espirit in Velvet. So I popped over to my favorite local bike shop Switchback Velo and had Matt the Mechanic slap this baby together. I'm so excited for this build. The frameset is, of course, the Ritte Espirit frameset with the integrated OTHR 120x380mm handlebars/cockpit. I adapted my SRAM Force Cranks over to a Stone Direct Mo...

Love this and yes it probably is the future for fixed gear crits.Brilliant idea.Nice to see those well known guys there too,i recognise many.
The floor isn't super slippery? Looks dope and would open up winter crit racing in cold places.
Me forgetting to turn the camera off ☠️🤣
Makes for good content
What is the top speed (roughly) at this event? Thanks in advance~
Not sure. I’d guess maybe 20-25 on that long straight, could be a bit lower since it’s so technical
That’s MPH.
@@WaltDoesBikes closer to 15mph 🤣
Bro needs an editor but it was fun. Def not future of racing but fun frat boy fixie for Friday
$12/hr and you can be the guy
nope its still gravel
Gravel is so fun to spectate
how is this the future of anything, or new for that matter - these races have been happening in europe for decades
Damn. Y’all got K1 Speed over there?

This is effing rubbish, bet it's a green peace party conference thing.
We actually dumped crude all over some wild animals right after this and tipped over an offshore drilling rig before we jumped back on our horses and rode off into the sunset 🫦
Are you serious, you obviously have no idea what your spewing. You couldn't be more wrong if you tried.
Dope event, looking forward to more of them in the future. They posted a live stream on the Formula Fixed channel too - the drone shots were cool.
The POV drone pilots are a different talent for sure.
Losing the hoods will help prevent broken levers upon arrival
Ahhh good point, if they hit them, worst case they’ll just be folded in
Was this at a K1 Speed Center?
It was! Great venue for it
@@WaltDoesBikes Be great to have it at the k1 near Barrio Logan on Main St.
damn you didnt get the clip of Brittany O'Neal running over that other rider? That shit was insane!
I blame my camera man 🫠
mini golf, huh?
Hahaha he regretted that one

when putting the bike in the cassette, the chain can go in the middle or it has to go in the last pinion?
Best practice is to have the rear derailleur all the way out on the smallest cog. Easier on/off
So cool hearing about this on Sitting In and then seeing it come to life! So awesome!! 🤘🏼
Next time just might have to mess around a line up, myself 😅
I installed the SRAM Rival 12-speed cassette on the XDR hub, just like my road bike. Everything went great until I put the bike on the trainer, which is a Kickr V5. Indexing and limit screw settings on the bike are great. However, the derailleur will not shift to the big cog. The low position of the derailleur lines up with the 2nd cog. It's as if this road cassette actually needs the XD spacer on the hub to get this to work, or it's the cassette itself. I don't want to alter my settings for my bike. So, I may just ride the trainer without low gear. Does anyone else have an issue like this?
Hi! My chainring bolt broke, this things are brittle! I read that you use a dura ace fc-7710 as an alternative, did it fit perfectly or did you widen the hole of the spider? Can’t buy a rotor track bolt in my country so im looking for alternative. Thanks!
Most all chainring bolts (track) are pretty standard. Snag some Dura Ace Track Chainring bolts and they'll mate right up to it. I've lost bolts and replaced them with whatever I have on hand without issue. Happy riding!
Thanks for your very helpful video
When are we getting the 2024 tour de Big Bear upload!?
Hahah oh, man. The people still want that one?!
@@WaltDoesBikes they do 😂
Bought one and very happy with it...I remove the pedals and the rotors when I travel, just a safety measure. Great padding for the top tube and handlebars.. the padding for the saddle is way too small though... and my 56 size bike is the max that bag can hold. I doubt ppl with 57 58 or above frame sizes can fit the bike into the bag...but great product
Mine’s closer to a 57, fits no problem. My large Vitus went in there at a 57-58 equivalent as well. Saddle height might be a thing but I’ve got a pretty long inseam and it was no problem. 🤝🏼
@@WaltDoesBikes my problem is only that I feel like there is too much pressure on the handlebars once the bag is closed...other than that, the bike flew 4 times with absolutely no problem.
how long it lasts? alu 30mm spindle in steel bearings (BSA BB)
I’ve had it for 3+ years now I think
Thanks a lot for your efforts and detailed information.
My horse's standards are different to anyone else, it's two hooves front and two hooves rear. Edit: Spelling
Carbon hooves or gtfo
How did the ring compare to the sizing kit ring?
It’s almost dead on, accurate. Fits great!
If payload is a concern, the Kuat will have a higher impact on that as well.
You need better lighting.
venmo.com/u/Dalton-Thornsberry
What size bike are you rocking?
Sup, it’s a 56.5cm (Large)
Really like the bag. So do baggage handlers - so buy a set of spare wheels (you'll thank me later). When in transit, this bike bag spends most of its time on its side - which is why people may have issues with levers etc. So, go to a department store and buy one of those hard foam rollers that is wider than your handlebars and fits snuggly into that bag space. Then get a box cutter and carve out a space for the hoods and computer mount. Lastly, remove the derailleur. . . Cheers and happy and safe travels 👍
What size is your frame?
Yo, I don’t remember. It was years ago, but maybe Large?
Thank you D… just got my bike bag… this helped big time… 🍻
Thank you! Best explanation I've found!
Would love to see your update on this. I see in the comments you mention you're keeping it and woop. How does woop compare to a galaxy watch?
what a great video! I need to change my wahoo cassette to 12 SRAM speed and Ive been procrastinating because it felt like a mission.
Thanks so much! Happy to help
If I just bought a 12spd SRAM bike and want to use a Kickr Core Trainer, do I have to do this or will my bike mount on the stock cassette that comes with the Kickr?
Where did you get that rear derailleur cover? I don't see that as part of the orucase kit.
It’s integrated with the rear triangle protection portion if I remember correctly.
where is that rear derailleur protector from? I dont see it as part of the ORUCase kit online.
that pitch is killing
😘
Did you unscrew the rear derailleur from the frame? Thanks for the video.
Nope! The Orucase frame protection kit has a piece that mostly protects the RD. I haven’t had any issues with it being bent but that could be a concern if the airlines really throw it around.
Ive never had to take off di2 battery on the airport. I know they scan the bike box for batteries but i think the di2 battery is too small for it to matter.
“Lithium-ion batteries are considered dangerous goods when transported by air and are not allowed in the cargo holds of passenger aircraft. The fear is that if they catch fire, they could go into thermal runaway, a chain reaction that occurs when the battery rapidly increases in temperature and releases energy. This could cause a catastrophic explosion, as the volatile gases build up pressure in the cell and rupture the battery. The resulting fire could release volatile organic compounds that can ignite when they come into contact with oxygen in the air. The cargo holds of planes are not designed to handle such a blaze, and the heat and smoke from the fire could damage the liners or pressure relief panels. Safety analysts warn that this type of fire could even take down a plane”
I don’t understand the grading system hahah
Good watch to get me through the shit weather in Australia, before I head off for a block of racing in China

@@WaltDoesBikes hell yeah! You killed it on the decent!
Yo Dalton, im not sure if you know the channel NorCal cycling. Something I really like about his channel is the distance remaining in the top right, i think it adds a lot because things that happen in the race matter in the context of the distance remaining. Would you ever think about adding a distance countdown of some sort. Great vid!🎉
Thanks for the shout! I’ll give it a go and see if it’s something I’m able to add. Under Garmin VIRB I’m not able to add it but I’m working on learning a new program that would probably let me get that data point for y’all. Thanks for watching!
What drone did you use?
Skydio 2!

Great set up you have there, nice to be dialed in, makes you look forward to every ride.

That was a pretty epic race. We were there repping @SSB .We are committed to get more roadrace/crit and gravel exposure for the cycling community. Exposure and livestream will be the key.
