MOD40 2016 GOPRO last sail in Sweden

This is the last time I sailed the MOD40 in Sweden. Now everything is packed for moving back to Germany. What a pity! This location and the stable wind were a dream!

The best Mini40 race I ever participated. The overall winner was the yellow/green boat followed by the checkered black one. Two big favorites though had to fight with electrical problems. We had all wind conditions, perfect sun and a great location in the Netherlands!
MOD40 light, tryout with A-rig

The newest MOD40 trimaran is a light version of the previous ones. It weights under 2kg and needs ballast quite fast. This is the first ride with the A-rig. It still some adjustments but the balance is just fine.

As the other Mini40 are still in the workshop I took my first boat out for a round. She sails beautifully and fully under control! Most of the shots upwind were made without any steering on the rudder. She turns in the wind with more heel and comes back when going down again. It's like an autopilot!

After a fantastic 2015, the last sail trip was one of the best ones. Late September in Sweden, perfect weather and a lovely boat.

The "MOD40" is getting better every time. This is the C-rig which follows almost exactly the scale measurements of the real MOD70. It sails very easy now but you still have to pay attention as it wants to turn leeward most of the time. But I managed that she doesn't stop in the tacks as she did before. Great looking boat, looks better than most boats today. Did this have the steel grid by the keel? Hows the hull integrity after 3 decades?

Hey kampai26 just came to have a look after your comments on tacking. You'll find it much easier if you ease the sheets mid tack as the boat goes through head to wind. Your mainsail is hooking up before the boat has finished bearing away and thats causing it to stop it's turn. You then sheet on as the boat drives out on the new side.
Looks great mate, looks well balanced on one hull .can i ask why you have centre board sloped and starting from infront of the mast ? could that be causing the lee helm?? i tried a sloped fin on a monohull yacht and it wanted to lee helm and didnt like tacking .
The centerboard/foil must have full length in trunk when in down position otherwise building a strong enough trunk/blade combo becomes a challenge. The lateral loads of long board are primarily supported at hull skin and deck portions of trunk. In order to be able to have enough room to raise the board, forward of the mast avoids negative interactions with the boom.
+nuggsrc Usually those boats have vertical fins right behind the mast. This on is slopes to avoid to strong windward helm when the center hull is climbing. The more the fin comes out of the water, the more does the lateral center go aft. It works quite well! This is also scale, the real MOD70 has the fin at the same position with the same slope.

For me, the central fin doesn't look necessary! Isn't the side force of the hulls not enough?
I thought the same but it is pretty necessary in order to create a balance to the rudder. I actually increased the area cause the boat had leeway in "two-hull"-sailing mode.
