Short Bursts of Joy & Chords Routine Test (YM2612)
Just wanted to showcase some prototypes before I started proper with mmlgui back in August 2021.
Fun fact about Chords Routine Test is that I definitely borrowed the progression from Claustrophobic on the Fifth Month.

Since 2023 is coming to a close, I figured I would post this one with an appropriate title. Here's to 2024!!! Made back in 2019, this was after I made Spatial Awareness and I figured that this would supplement it by being a bit more chill. You can listen to Spatial Awareness on my BandCamp, which I recommend since it's my fully realized vision of what I wanted it to be or the playlist at the en...

Done on January 2017, this was when my time with the VRC6 was coming to an end. In fact, this was the last VRC6 piece I have done so I think it showcases what I got most out of the chip. The main inspiration for the composition was Thunder Force IV's Space Walk 2nd section with the spacey chords and drums. It doesn't translate well in PSG, but it was worth the effort.

Originally completed back in December 2018, I used to travel up and down highways as a kid to visit places or families hence the title. It has a ballad start to it, then it picks up to be a dance track, then slows back down before it loops. You can find it on my second album, The Unattainable Night (Track 14). muscises.bandcamp.com/album/the-unattainable-night Source: mega.nz/file/2SgSSQCa#qqjw...

From my vault, this was finished on June 18th, 2018. I must've been playing a lot of Recca at the time, and wanted to experiment with some minimal techno. This is a re-upload, because I just realized that the wav export for DN-FT 0.5.01 creates de-synced tracks. I wish I knew this earlier, because I used that for a bit of my recent uploads. Oh well.

    I see how you use the PSG to produce the cymbal sounds but how do you produce the drum sounds? I am thinking maybe the DAC but that would be horribly processor intensive. Can you briefly explain what the channels are and what the columns of data correspond to? I presume on the YM chip you need 2 bytes, one for the pitch and one for the envelope to define the instrument?

    • @muscises1858
      @muscises1858 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Drums were going through the DAC, and the reason why they sound so good is because the sound driver does a good job handling DMAs between the two CPUs. When it comes to how the channels are laid out in the test program, it's very tricky since some channels will phase in and out of the lower slots in the video. If you want to learn more about the technical side of the sound driver, here's the link: github.com/superctr/MDSDRV/tree/master/doc

    • @muscises1858

      Yes, Blastem is a (very-accurate) Genesis emulator. There's also nukeyt's emulator for the Genesis, github.com/nukeykt/Nuked-MD, but it requires a more processing power to even work.

    • @muscises1858

      So, this is emulated through Blastem which is the most accurate Sega Genesis emulator. However, this can be played through the physical chips 100%. I have some hardware recorded on me, if you're interested.

    • @muscises1858
