It's taken decades for Toronto to get a new downtown subway, but the Ontario Line actually looks pretty good - all things considered. It'll be delayed and over budget, but we'll forget about all of that as soon as it's up and running :^)

A Silver Line appreciation video :^) I visited my friend in #DC recently and was surprised to find a direct airport rail link, since many US cities don’t have that. Uber for buses? What went wrong with “microtransit”
มุมมอง 5K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
On-demand transit doesn't make money - but maybe it’s not supposed to. For a few years in the mid 2010s, on-demand / flexible / demand-responsive / uber for buses / wow that's a lot of names / #microtransit seemed like the perfect solution to declining service and ridership across the US. No need for tough decisions on zoning or #urbanplanning - "Uber for buses" would make use of existing infra...

    This is a very well informative video but your editing style is insane. Too erratic, too ADHD, too TikTok-ish. Maybe tone down the fast cutting of 20 million different memes to every single statement you utter. The topic of the video is interesting and engaging enough, don’t treat your audience like children that need a new candy waved at them every 5 seconds to retain their attention. Let the meat of your content do the work instead of hiding it behind unfocused editing like you’re trying to submit a paper due at midnight and it’s 11:58PM.

    Abandoning the downtown relief line was the biggest mistake in the history of this city. They were afraid of too much development! And what they got is way more development they imagined, but with residents driving cars downtown because streetcars are so slow. A move this dumb should never be forgotten

    I still think that the circle line would be better for increasing connectivity between neighborhoods today. It would serve more people than a mid city line (which if its going through Cicero, isn’t the city) and it would take so long to get to the northern suburbs/O’Hare that people aren’t gonna stop driving. that people aren’t gonna stop driving.

    LOL< I still remember riding the old wooden El cars with my gramdma when i was a kid on the Lake St El. Chicago needs to fix so much. Under Richie Daley, they got a TON of positive things accomplished. Under his admin, the city, especially downtown thrived and was made into a destination city. His ideas, like the planters on the main steets downtown added so much. Since he's beeen out of office, Chicago has turned into a shytehole more and more each year. The current failure of a mayor has spent so much on Illegals in the city, he's deprived the very citizens who've lived there forever and who need the help the most. He and Lightfoot turned Chicago into a third world country in a really short time. It's heart breaking to me. It also pains me to see those who really need a helping hand being denied due to the spending in the wrong places. Hopefully the residents of the city wake up and stop voting for these total failures called mayors. Richie Daley was god like IMO, and one hell of great mayor and superb human being.

On the flipside, there were several times it would have been incredibly convenient for Line 5 to have been open.

    I'm only at the bit about Transit City but I have to point out one thing that is being missed here. Miller came to the conclusion about it having spent his campaign going across the city and heard massive complaints from the far edges of the city about how hard it was to get anywhere but downtown. So Transit city was designed to address that. If people could go across the top of the city, they wouldn't need to go to Bloor/Yonge. And Transit City did have a subway component - the subway extension to York University. The busway there was built based on the feedback he was getting from students until the subway extension happened. So that's why there wasn't a relief line in the plans.

    • @MKPiatkowski
      @MKPiatkowski 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Now that I've watched the rest, I want to point out the biggest crime about cancelling Transit City. There are still no plans to build a rapid transit line out to Malvern, which was something David was passionate about as Malvern is the poorest area of the city. And now that I live in Scarborough, I get it more than ever. The subway extension here won't help me but thankfully I live near Guildwood station. Those who are farther north of me? Still screwed.

    • @sirbobloblaws
      @sirbobloblaws 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MKPiatkowski The biggest crime is that Transit City had no relief line. And Miller knows that but refuses to admit it, which is why he's on twitter bashing the Ontario Line. The Spadina subway extension to York (announced in 2006) was not part of Transit City (2007). Miller was promised over $10 billion for Toronto transit by McGuinty as long as he publicly supported the subway, which he privately had no use for. The city's two biggest priorities by far were a relief line and an SRT replacement. But he spent most of his energy on Eglinton, Sheppard East, and Finch West. Unforgivable.

    As a relatively new "Chicagoan" and having lived in 3 other major cities with rapid transit, I can attest that Chicago DOES have great coverage in general. But a lot of it relies on the bus routes rather than the trains. If you need to get downtown, you're basically within a bus and then a train ride. But maneuvering about the city on the outer spokes is definitely an issue, especially in bad weather or if you are impaired. I really didn't hear much in this discussion about the HUGE hole that exists for people living in the NE part of the city, who need to travel east. Why -- does one have to go ALL the way downtown on the Blueline, in order to connect to the Brown or Red? I could understand perhaps, it being expensive to directly connect the Blue and Red lines from East to West...but LOOK AT THE MAP! It makes no sense that the Brown and Blue lines don't connect. The end of the Brown @ Kimball....and the Blueline Montrose stops are NOT that far apart. Then from the Damien Brownline stop it's a straight shot over to Wilson or Lawrence on the Red. Yes..I understand there are all kinds of political and landownership issues that cause barriers to building transit lines but in my non-urban-planning-trained mind, it seems like there was a lack of vision or foresight when these lines were conceived or lines were demolished that could have been used! It reminds me of the way cities make a big deal about "new train connection to the airport!!" when that should have been in the plan the whole time!!

    Chicago so broke it’s ridiculous. The CTA is an absolute joke. I mean it’s great. They have it because some cities don’t have it like we do so we’re very fortunate credit to that but the biggest issues for me are the expensive prices the smoking the homelessness just these people think it’s their home on these trains and it’s not The other reason. It’s always late. You know it’s like these people on the train. They don’t care you know it’s just a few bad apples honestly but it’s if if if you really wanna take a train take the Metra. It’s more safer why they got Metra police and they it’s rarely late. The conductors are really nice. The prices are decent. I just wish they’d run it more often and they’d have more you know Metra trains and more stations but I understand it’s not like the CTA train system obviously well my final opinion is this if I had to pick one over the other, I mean it’s best to have both options if needed obviously but if I had to pick one over the other, I would choose the metra train
