Thats pretty cool!, so what caused the lines? Glue joint?, were they not visible before you stained it the first time ?, Good recovery though.Lot's of sawdust 😂
The lines were always there, they were just brought out when I added the Rubio monocot oil. Hart pine is very grainy. I love the way it looks. If you’re thinking of using Rubio Mono coat I on your butcher block, I highly recommend it. Have fun.

Great words on thumb & horizon, and hole & crack. I will never get confused when doing construction outdoors!
Charming. You could also add historic style storm windows that attach to the porch with sash hangers (2 divided light window). Double strength glass.

Isn't the floor going to rot underneath? Don't you need a slab or vapor barrier or something?
That’s a good question. As long as the roof hangs over enough, it does not get wet. It should last a very long time.
Looks great were going to do the same to our 1930s covered porch. I learned alot watching this.

when u first install the post, how does it stand up? or is it just floating until you add the frame around it?
I put up a temporary post with a floor jack under it so that I can adjust the height and then lower it whenever the new post is installed

Good idea. However I'm a Craftsman snob so I'm required to point out that the architectural trim is what the Arts and Crafts movement was rebelling against...all that complexity. A simple rectangular piece of wood would have been more Craftsman maybe with 4 2x2 chunks beneath. Of course natural wood instead of paint but in this case the original wood in this door has to be painted because the panels would be flat grain and not look good stained. But still, very cool.
