Based on my initial clear score, I assumed this would have higher score potential than the Outer Wards route, but it looks like I might be wrong. why you on playing on the heavy delayed pcsx2 emulator instead of a Naomi one?
The PS2 emu is not as responsive indeed, but the PS2 port in general is the better one : extensive practice options with stage/boss select, boss HP display, and an autoroll button that bypasses the need to wiggle and wall hug and makes the game a lot more fun to play The NAOMI/DC versions have none of those features AFAIK

Oh those are perectly natural but not widely known T-Rex behaviors. When young, they practice butt slam attacks during rough play with their peers, and learn how to take down trees as a proxy for the buildings they'll destroy as adults. 😁

Hahaha, well to be honest I don't even think Mark actually scores DDP so he should be the first to get the whip 😆 And yup, there is dynamic difficulty! I believe it is indicated by the horizontal bar at the very bottom of the screen. By the time I fight Violette, it's maxed out
@@M_Knight_Jul dynamic difficulty encourages routing so I guess scoring shouldnt be a big issue. I still dont like that getting hit gives you a massive drop for potential high score.
@@soratheorangejuicemascot5809 Since I was focused on not getting hit, I eventually didn't pay too much attention to difficulty, as it becomes virtually static. But yeah that's a factor to think about when routing. The multiplier loss is brutal, though I wonder how much the place where you die affects it. Dying at the very end (or the very beginning) may not be that impactful. I was surprised the one-death run was that close to this one, so maybe it depends as well on what score values get the multiplier applied to them. Earlier runs with multiple deaths had much lower scores though.
Enemies ship developed an reflective bullet and deadly bullet pattern later in bullet hell games.

Oh yeah the game is visual chaos for sure. You eventually make sense of it hopefully. I never had headaches myself when playing the game, I sure hope it never becomes a thing for me. I don't know what I'd be doing then 🥴 DillinJah being mission-based makes it more relaxed in that regard, yeah

Came here because i saw a recent video call this a very bad game and had to check it out. Happy to say that I am actually pleasantly surprised at how interesting and entertaining this playthrough actually was! The artqork on this and level deaign actually feels well done, though there was obviously a few translation issues. I feel like managing to controls could be a nightmare and some of the sound FX become a little repetitive and jarring to say the least😂. But other than that this was actually a wild game for 92', which was the year after i was born. Great playthrough👍 I just subbed.
Yeah Dino Rex may be very different compared to standard FGs and I am not sure it's super interesting from a competitive standpoint, but the atmosphere is definitely up there! A single-player run is definitely an experience. It's a weird, janky but very charming game and you can tell the creators still cared even if they didn't master FG design.
@@M_Knight_Jul Yeah you definitely can tell they were still trying to create something worth playing. I think the issues you stated though could possibly come from the fact that it was actually intended to originally be a Shooter game. Eventually becoming reworked into a fighting game after Taito saw the success of Street Fighter. I just read all about the history of this game this morning lol.
@@JuanMendoza-qd5lm Oh yeah I read that story too haha. The actual shmups the lead designer worked on (Gun Frontier and Metal Black) are clearly more solid with regards to their game genre and on top of that, they had the same attention to detail as in Dino Rex

There's a second player character sprite that was DLC at one point (Linear Cannon from Evolution). I can't find it on their website anymore. It overwrites the initial sprite data (they didn't bother with adding a character select). Linear's sprite is a bit more conventional since she's x-axis symmetrical, otherwise, it's purely a cosmetic change.
Whoa that's pretty fascinating! Any idea if the wayback machine could be used to get that character sprite? At least it's kinda reassuring to know it's a purely visual change in case we ultimately can't get access to it

The bonus stage reminds me of those t-rex games and rampage games made by Gametornado, like New York Rex and Yeti Rampage
Oh I wasn't aware of these games but looking at them, I can definitely see similar kinds of wacky madness as in those Dino Rex bonus stages! New York Rex especially looks like he could be Barney's rowdy cousin or something haha
@@M_Knight_Jul I mean, it's not like both involve side-scrolling, with one being just that since it's a platformer and the other being a bonus since the entirety is fighting dinos. I can see those gametornado rex games being some modern take on the dino rex bonus stages if the entirety was just that.

Perhaps the shmuplations interview ( shmuplations.com/takatsunasenba/ ) and the achived Senba page on Metal Black ( web.archive.org/web/20070125160242/www6.ocn.ne.jp/%7Et-1008dx/MB.html ) can help you know more about it The intro sequence also explains the basic plot of aliens from Nemesis attacking Earth by dropping asteroids and using newalone particules to power themselves. Humanity stood no chance. After a long ""truce"" that isn't really letting humanity rebuild itself, one fed up soldier stole the Black Fly in order to rebel and fight back. This ship is able to use the newalone too and its use was prohibited as a condition for peace. Things get weirder from there on.
