I'm sorry about the quality, but this will have to do until I get my gopro back from the repair shop. But nevertheless, we got it to move under its own power after messing with the clutch and tighten it. Hopefully, I can get my gopro back and record us putting the tire on and driving it!! #johndeere #restoration #mechanic #tractor #usa #rebuild #antique #america #coldstart #carburator

Restoring My Grandfather's 1949 John Deere "A". Pt 1 : Identifying the Conditions and Problems
Hey guys I'm enjoying watching your videos. I recently purchased a 1948 John Deere A and you're doing many of the things I'm going to be doing myself. keep up the good work.
The most important thing to remember is: that doing this is supposed to be Fun!!! Keep up the good work!
Pretty normal. They like to stop in 2 places which wears it out. Knock it off, rotate it, reinstall. Good for another 50yrs.
Clutch problems could be the toggles and the clutch dogs worn out.
Supposed to be about 50 foot pounds to engage
Clutch handle is correct. Same as my 1951 B
Do you have the flywheel cover?
This video is an older one so it may not be the best video, so check out my other videos which are much better!
I need to go work on my 1951 B . You will find the petcocks under the block. Use them to release some of the compression for starting. Use gloves to close them after starting. There’s very hot gasses coming from them. Good luck!!! P.S. No loose clothing near those open flywheels, etc.!!
There’s two holes in the fuel shutoff, which you were working on. They run sideways. That’s where the fuel will enter the sediment bowl. There should also be a filter on that shutoff assembly. Keep working on it!!! And watch some videos about the tractors like that one. The systems are pretty much identical. Good luck!! I am subscribed. Work on the video.
The clutch is supposed to snap when it engages. If it doesn’t it’s to loose. I’d say y’all have never operated a hand clutch tractor before? Slowly engage it and then snap it over. Also load screw on carb is out to far.
This quality and that reaction makes this video so much better 😂
Hanging out with grandpa's Priceless
Whenever it is running, make sure they have the clutch engaged! Especially when it is in neutral
Exchange with 1960 clutch handle after the books specs
It should snap in so it doesn't slip under a load.
Hard work pays off working man! Good to see a classic "on the road again "👍🚜
Love that sound 👍👍
Sorry for the backfire, didn't have the throttle far enough forward. Still learning the ropes on the old girl!
I have a stock John Deere 50 and it has a tractor flap on it one day it backfired and launched it’s just now returning the earth’s atmosphere 😂
when are you droppin an album?
??
Engage the clutch with transmission in neutral when running a 2 cylinder. Running with it disengaged is wearing on the bushing inside the clutch. Needless wear.
Just really quickly wanna say thanks all of you guys for the support through this project so far and the advice through the comment section. This is one of the biggest events to happen to this project and this was a major milestone that we crossed. I am so glad I also got it on film to show you guys. My point is, thank all that have subcribed or just watched my videos, it really means a lot to me. 🇺🇸🇺🇸
We are thinking it is an electrical issue because we didn't see spark on the sparkplug, so we are gonna try to buy new ones and if they don't work, we will work up from there
FYI the ring gear is on backwards. The bevel on the teeth goes to the back of the flywheel to help the starter engage
Oh! Ok does it still work ok if it's on backwards or do we have to pull it off again and flip it?
John Deere cool
I’ve done a ton of these, I put the flywheel in the freezer and heat up the ring gear and it will fall on🇺🇸
I bought an old Allis Chalmers that had the cap gasket from a bottle of dry gas dropped into the tank. The tractor would run great till that thing would float over the petcock hole!! The previous owner sold the tractor and bushhog to me for 800 bucks because it would mysteriously shut off all the time!!!😂
Oy, oy,oy,oy Right and proper.
Please purchase a manual.
We have the original operators manual, plus I know a bit more now after working on it
Nice old tractor, sadly the vision we saw was mostly the side of the bonnet , maybe have the camera in a different spot next time. Even when you showed us the peacock when u/ got it off, it was you moved it to quickly and we only got half a frame and couldn’t see it. I am sure you will get better in time . Basically the camera was too high to see what you were looking at. Cheers from AUS 🦘
I'll work on the video tapping but thanks for the advice! It's also cool to see people from down under watching my videos too!
Young man on dad's 1950 G John Deere when his battery cables got dirty the starter wouldn't turn fast enough to start the engine. Dad took the steering wheel off , took a stub shaft out of the tool box. The key from the steering column fit in the key way on the stub shaft , the threads on both shafts were the same. In the center of the flywheel their were 2 notches in the center hole. The cross pin on the stub shaft locked into the notches in the flywheel. You started the engine by hand. The notches in the flywheel were on angle , when the engine started it pushed the stub shaft out. The steering wheel rolled a long way. As a 2 to 3 yr old boy it seemed like a long way!
Thanks for the advice! We will try that if our starter keeps giving us trouble.
Keep up the hard work workin man 👍
Thank for the video !
Great intro music with Merle Haggard !!
Subscribed!! I have a 51 A that was my great uncles. Sadly it needs more work then yours does,
Keep up the hard work! Your a good o'l boy
