This was first real sense of conflict that we saw existed between Vader and Palpatine in the original trilogy. First Vader disobeyed direct orders to remain on the command ship. Then came the sarcastic and condescending tone used by Palpatine telling Vader "he will come to you and then you will bring him before me" You almost got the sense Vader wanted to give Palpatine the old heave ho down that shaft right then and there.

I think vader knew that the darkside of him was becoming less and less powerful for him to continue as luke was close by.

Sidious fails to sense Luke's presence, but foresees he will come to Vader? If this were released today, ROTJ would be as hated as the sequels.

This was the first time that the very obedient and loyal Darth Vader had ever displayed contempt for the emperor. He disobeyed an order, most likely used the force on the royal guards to prevent them from intervening (not that they would have been much of a threat anyway), and the sternness in Vader’s voice. He began to have feelings of love for Luke which is why the emperor could not feel Luke’s presence. That leads me to believe that he gave up when fighting Luke and went purely on the defensive. Vader might not have won the fight due to Luke’s anger, but he certainly wouldn’t have won so easily. In fact, I think the only way a Jedi could destroy Vader is with force lightning, which Luke hadn’t learned yet. Vader had the power to use lightning, but his suit made that impossible.

Emperor: I did not sense your son’s presence with that group on the Endor moon Also Emperor: I have foreseen that your son will come to you on the Endor moon even though I literally just said I had no idea he was on that moon

In Legends the best masters for Anakin would of been either Qui Gon had he lived, Or Dooku had he stayed with the order because they both were more greyish in there believes while Aayla, Quinlan, And Sora Bulq fall too close to the dark side and the other Jedi are too basic and by the by yeah.

I like how Palpatine says "he will come to you and then you will bring him before me", almost condescendingly like "I've said this to you already, you idiot", and makes an annoyed face as he turns his chair away. We forget that the whole reason Palpatine wants Luke is because he's lost faith in Vader, so at this point Palpatine treats Vader like a child.

"My son is with them" - you can hear a flicker of pride and defiance in Vader's tone there. Vader is proud of Luke and wants to see him, you can tell.

It would have been funny if Vader curtsied before turning to leave.

Luke how did your dad live with himself? What did Padme see in Anakin Skywalker before he became Vader? The boy she and Obi-Wan met on Tatooine was almost gone forever.

I find it funny but also a bit sad how Vader says "He will come to meEe?". You can tell he is struggling about his feelings towards Luke and doesn't believe that after all he's done he would come for him.

I can only imagine palpatine rolling his eyes when Vader tells him about the rebels landing on Endor. He’s just thinking “Ffs Of course I know this, this is part of the plan, if you’d just do what I tell you then it’d work out”

McDiarmid and Christensen's body language totally echoes The Emperor and Vader's interactions in Return of the Jedi.

1:05 until the end of this scene actually makes me cringe… “He will come to me ???” The tone is so awkward. And then “he will come to you and then you will bring him before me” is also weird, especially the way he tilts his head… 🤦‍♂️😂😬

Palpatine reeks of intelligence. His quick and sure "yes, I know" really cements his character.

the musical note that plays as palpatine says “you will learn to trust your feelings” is beautiful. scary, foreshadowing, and gut wrenching, but beautiful. this scene is often overlooked but shows how deeply anakin was manipulated by palpatine, who took advantage of him the day he was no longer a slave on tatooine

When Palpatine asks Vader if his feelings on this matter are clear is such a great line, think when he tells Vader lukes Anakin's son he talks about Anakin in the past tense, when Anakin became Vader then everything about Anakin died so when Vader says "my son" is with them, Palpatine realised anakin is still alive

I remember even when I was 10, I could picture Palpatine in his hood and Anakin as Vader. Well done Lucas.

The fact that Palpatine didn't sense Luke was a sign that his dark side powers were starting to be clouded by the light side, much as the Jedi's had been clouded by the dark side with Palpatine's rise. What Palpatine had foreseen with his Sith powers did not come to pass.

Empire or First Order the Sith were still a threat to the balance of power in the galaxy. Daddy wants to find Luke as the rebels and Ewoks speak.

0:22 This was such an important scene for Anakin’s character’s development. Palpatine was already planting seeds of doubt into Anakin regarding the Jedi, three years prior to him becoming his apprentice. Palpatine simply knew the time was not right yet.

Vader did have a compassion streak in him for Luke. I always felt the Emperor knew this. And get him in check with the Darkside.

Well, Palpatine was right. If Anakin had remain in the light he would have became the most powerful jedi ever.

"My Son.. is with them" He is slowly starting to sound like a human and a father. These small little moments leading up to his return to the light are pretty wholesome.

That’s a very poignant moment when one of the most feared beings in the Galaxy is scolded in such a way. Palpatine: “I told you to remain on the command ship!” Very telling to see Darth Vader subservient like that.

This scene is good awkward, devastatingly realistic. As if there was a hidden camera recording these scheming Siths who tested each other at every word.

Palpatine actin’ like he ain’t want Vader to come through, but you know he bored af starin’ out into space with no one to talk to (those crimson b*tches don’t say sh*t).
