How exciting it is to be playing A&A 1940 for the very first time!
The Rupert stories, for me, are the British equivalent of Carl Barks' iconic Uncle Scrooge adventure comics, because both depict anthropomorphic animals dealing with supernatural forces.
I completely forgot about Rupert he was as iconic as Winnie and Paddington. defo deserves more recognition.
This year I'm 48 years old and have collected Rupert annuals scinc I was young and still do not Christmas unless I get my Rupert annual
Grew up with Rupert Bear as my first childhood stories , the illustrations were brilliant and by themselves trasported me to a magical innocent place All those years later i can still feel the effects of his illustrations and magic they conjured up
I used to watch Rupert bear on TV an I had annual Rupert bear book
La casa de la muerte la ciudade de la muerte la rua de la muerte
El año de la muerte ....and so on
Love this man. I am 67 and he still gives me joy
Sadly, since this was made, Alfred Bestall still does not have the recognition he deserves
I love the casual reference to Coon Island. I don’t think it’s the sort of thing l would have said to children in 1982. Oh well
Just how it was back then.
He was a true genius artist and writer - so sadly underrated and overlooked. He should have received a Knighthood for all his work.😪 He inspired me and I went on to write and illustrate a childrens book - sadly not one publisher was interested - but all my young nephews, nieces and friends children love the book. Not a patch on his work but I like to think there is 'some' part of Bestall in my drawings?
Shame there's no nod to Mary Tourtel in this episode
I found Rupert from the Commodore 64 game, Rupert & the Toymaker’s Party, and suddenly recalled him today for some reason
Wow, a group of orientals in the UK in the 80's
Pat Mustard up to his usual tricks at 3:21, Milky man!!!
"Wupert" calm it down Del boy... I know they said to SuperLisp it, but still!
Bloody love Del
Erm, no mention of Mary Tourtel?
Actually, yes, Terry Jones gives her credit in episode 2.
Rupert Bear is 100 years old today
Wonderful man,his story's brightened my life when I was a child!
im going to read Rupert tonight, i forgot what a magical bear he was , goodnight !
oh my goodness my grandparents had the book "the only one in existence" with a dust cover too
I have one!
Wonderful to see an interview with the great man himself.
Terry Jones's Wind in the Willows film 'Toad's Wild Ride' was magnificent and i would love to have seen him bring Rupert to the screen!!
RIP Terry Jones, a great comedian/actor/writer/poet/insert any talent you like here. You were, and will always remain, my hero.
Whaaat?? I didn’t even recognize him!!
I love Terry Jones
marvellous! thank you for posting these : thoroughly enjoyed. what a special man bestall was!
I grew up reading the Rupert annuals as a kid of the 1970s. Nutwood was a place I enjoyed being in through reading. It was a magical place that I wished I could never leave. In a way, I never did since I carry those childhood memories inside me.
Apparently, Mr. Bestall was not used to wearing his false teeth but, because of his Edwardian etiquette he probably only put it in when visitors were coming aka his dentures are rattling and inhibiting his speech
Mr. Bestall had a stammer, this is what rattled his teeth and inhibited him so
Is it strange that I grew up with Rupert, The Adventures of Tin Tin, The Hobbit, and David the Gnome? These were beloved stories I wish to share with the next generation
Your very welcome! you might be interested in my facebook page? The link is in the video description,I try to add new images each week...
