My husband and i went 2 years ago, and boarding was the same, but we had a great time on that little ship. Thinking about taking my sister and her husband this year since it will be their first time

The lack of plan in certain area is that cruise lines have lost a lot of their experience employees. On their name tags you can see when they are trainee .

I love HAL , is not for everybody.

I love HAL, it is my cruiseline of choice. It is not for everyone. If you want/need the ship to entertain you, you won't like it. If you are interested in a relaxed environment where you can learn about the destinations you will be traveling to, and meeting/ talking to people who enjoy traveling to many different places you will enjoy this line.

Watching you whip it to "play that funky music white boy" gave me an unexpected cackle! 😅

I’ve sailed on nearly all the lines…..platinum on Carnival, platinum on Royal, platinum on Princess, 3 star mariner on Holland America and a few NCL, Virgin and Disney. And I’ve decided my very favorite is Holland. I have not tried a 4 night on them, but I love the cruises I’ve done with them, including Panama Canal and recently a Thanksgiving transatlantic. The Pinnacle class ships are amazing. I’ve been on all three. Wasn’t a big fan of Nieuw Amsterdam, which I think is Eurodam’s sister. But love their smallest ship, Volendam. I feel like their evening entertainment is tops among the cruise lines, as well as their food. I really like that their evening buffets offer the same food as the MDR, even if it’s filet mignon. I would agree that sometimes their daytime entertainment is lacking a bit. But I do enjoy when they show good movies in the afternoons, especially ones that correlate to your itinerary, like Panama.

Really enjoyed the Eurodam videos. I have almost no experience on cruises but I learned a lot from the videos. You gave a really good coverage of your very good, ok, and not so great experiences and that coverage really gave me a sense not only about cruise life but most importantly, would that experience for four days be enjoyable. The ending evaluation described a nice time...not great, but ok. I too had the feeling that many things could have been better and for me being better is really important. Nothing is perfect but experiencing a special four days is the result of a well organized operation where events are not hit or miss. Keep reporting...you do it well.

Sounds like the crew is a bit flat on your cruise and maybe the cruise experience is flat? But there are still some good things you're reporting as well.

Great video. Next time if you want the beach, take the boat shuttle to paradise island(it's like $6 per person each way) and then walk about 20 minutes to Rio hotel. Or you could just taxi to Rio. There is a public access path to the public beach next to the Rio. Once on the beach(plenty of chair sellers and venders), if you turn left you can walk towards Atlantis and check that out but their guards will make you turn around, but if you turn right and walk towards the Four Seasons hotel resort you have endless best beaches in Nassau that you can enjoy with very little people. I enjoyed the stretch just past the Four Seasons right in front of those private homes.

Seeing these makes me happy I just stick with Carnival. We went on the Carnival Magic last month and the food was honestly the best cruise food we've had in our 20 cruises or so, most of which were also on Carnival. Not sure if the Magic did something different or not but I was so happy with it.

Normally if we go to Nassau we just stay on the ship because we've been there so many times but you've convinced me to go to the bearded clam.

Was there any cruise credit or compensation for missing the ports?

The food on this ship does look pretty awful.

This video was suggested for me. I watched because we were just on the Eurodam and curious of your experience. We were actually on the same cruise. I agree 100% with your assessment! We said the same things…Dive In was some of the best food (even though it was just bar food), MDR was just not good and all the eating options were slammed on embarkation day. I look forward to your thoughts on the rest of the cruise. Maybe I’ll see myself in one of your videos. 🤪

Yes, you have a very good knowledge of what HAL is. It's an long-operating cruise line , since 1873, of course now owned by Carnival but still trying to hang on to as much heritage as it can. Food, it's up and down on most mass market lines, premium or not. Same could be said of Princess, Celebrity's food. You can cruise this ship again and get great food. HAL is very consistent ship to ship but some of the newer ships add BB Kings which is another solid music venue. One thing I'm liking less and less about going out is hearing the same songs over and over, the hits that are now overplayed. I'm a jazz guy and always have been (more so even in my teens and 20s than I am now), and loved the Ocean Bar on HAL that still plays jazz or at least "American songbook standards." Each cruise line has to be cruised on 3 times on different class ships to get an idea of who they are, and maybe different itineraries like Alaska, Caribbean, New England and maybe European Med cruises to get an idea of their product. Going on the not newest class of ship is a good idea as well. HAL hasn't changed but Princess and Celebrity did their products in their newest classes so they're distinct from their previous classes. Ports get cancelled. It's disappointing but it happens pretty often.

Really fun to see a video from the perspective of someone who has never been on HAL. A 4-day cruise is really not the "usual" HAL experience, however.

Do you get a refund or something because of the cancellation

Very interested so see the rest of your experience on Eurodam! I sailed on this ship a few weeks after you. I found the service and food to be quite good, but the entertainment definitely geared for an older crowd. The “up close talks” are very unique to Holland America and I enjoyed them, but the other shows didn’t impress me outside of the talented vocalists in Rolling Stone and Step One.
