i like the idea of SST but i need to see how it fairs over a few years in the Ram trucks. some say “it’s been in jeeps for years already” yes, it has but some platforms just seem to be plagued with issues. time will tell how this switch does, and two years in jeeps is not a long time. let’s see how this does in the next 8 years. i’m not a bitter-clinger to my 5.7 but the trans is great, the engine is not much to go wrong other than a couple things. The SST is a complex engine so there’s more to fail. call me a pessimist. and turbo “lag” is an older concern and with new tech, it’s not really a thing anymore.

If I do a flat tappet swap can I go back to 15w40 oil ?

First off its ugly it looks like every other new truck. You really think that pos will last before you pay it off? Hope your dealer offers unlimited donor cars you really think that over priced turd won't spend forever in the shop? What happens when the turbos fail and you now have a $25 thousand dollar bill to pay. You really think that pos will last running on boost at high rpms daily? Nope you really think that turd will get great MPG running on boost and high rpms? You really think that fake American turd built with 99% Chinese Mexican crap you over paid for by 30K at least will be problem free before you pay off your 84 month loan I will keep my ram 5.7 for as long as parts are available I am also the original owner of 2001 ram 5.9 magnum that still looks absolutely awesome except for the pos cracked dash that was never recalled. And I guarantee my 5.9L magnum will definitely out last my hemi

All these complaints about the engine in the comments, you bought a damn stellantis product, you had to be a fan of having problems, i mean quit your whining, you obviously don’t know anything about cars, if you did you would be driving something else lol

Stellantis needs to hire some of these shade tree mechanics/engineers on here that comment seemingly knowing how everything could be so much better and reliable. Funny how people commenting on here can see in the future like Nostradamus….

I worked at a CDJR dealership when the Pentastar came out, and was supposed to go to Auburn Hills for training, but our Grand Caravan couldn't make it 20 minutes with burning the cyl 4 exhaust valves. Nothing has changed......

Let's see how these Dodge turbos are holding up in 5, 10 or even 15 years. The Ford ecoboost have loads of issues to this day, and I'm pretty sure they're on the 3rd gen V6 at this point. Give me the hemi all day.

NA, V8, 48V (no eTorque), Hybrid (no cylinder deactivation, engine is either on or off) is the answer.

Main concern about Hurricane engine is that it was designed and developed by Stellantis! They’re not capable of designing a door handle that works let alone a brand new engine

Nice work, Josh. I do have a couple of questions. 1. What oil 10w-30 or 5w-40 would you recommend in the 2021 Cummins HO. The truck is in Wyoming, but it is garaged 99% of the time. There is a debate as to what is the best oil for this engine these days with the hydraulic lifter issue. 2. If you were going to do a couple of banks upgrades to that engine. What would be the first two? Thanks!

Turbos will lead to numerous problems as well as the crazy high fuel pressure causing leaks

Gday there - got a question about the displacement on demand/cylinder deactivation system (MSD??). I understand that it is an eventual fail point for the engine (lifters turning or something like that??). If I deactivate this system on my 6.4 while driving (by engaging sport mode), will this reduce likelihood of failure?

Twin turbo gdi. What could go wrong after say 1-2 years? Everything!!!! These things are junk.

You aren’t taking any of those I6 engines and making 1600hp reliably. It will be ultimately proven that the I6 or V6 engines even with their turbos will never last as long as a V8 engine when actually doing things that trucks are made to do. Dodge lost any and all respect I had for them when they canned their Hemi V8 platform.

I understand that manufacturers wants to sell us hp numbers but we don’t need turbo engines. Just natural aspirated engines that can be dependable is all we want. Toyota is also having issues with there turbo engines, Honda as well, ford did too the list go on and on.

So you have a lot of experience wrenching, all these are upgrades I want to do to my truck. How easy would this be for a weekend warrior to do. Banks seems to have solid instructions. But overall can anyone do it in their garage

What are your thoughts on how cummins keeps the roller lifter from turning in the lifter bore seems like an awful lot of clearance allowing the lifter to move around in the bore

The turbos on all these engines higher pressures are just 1200 dollars to replace sooner or later. If I was gonna a buy a truck not to keep or just hot rod maybe, but definitey stick with a V8 to keep.

How do you determine if your oil is dirty? What color is the oil? There is no current technology measuring dirt in oil. They can only guess based on a formula. The computer would never know if I put poor quality gasoline in the tank, and therefore contaminating the engine oil

Stellantis management are obviously morons! They decided to crater the sales of their best selling product with the decision to replace the 345ci HEMI with a highly stressed 180ci 6. All these automobile companies are about find out what happens when you produce products that the government wants instead of what your customers want to buy!

I put over 40k in 6 months on the standard output I6 with no issues im loving it! Was owner of the 5.7 witch was nice but this performs allot better just missing the sound of the V8

Our company had banned the rental of Kia and Hyundai due to several being stolen while we rented. Now we've had to add Jeeps to the ban as we've had too many of our people stranded by breakdowns.
