Hang Gliding - Har Tavor, Israel - July 24 2024
A very nice day to fly @tavormountain .
Lift near the ridge up to 1000 masl, little clouds at the beginning so tried to chase one, semi-successfully.
Battery died ~1.5hr into the flight, so landing recorded by a friend.
Launch - kept nose straight, but did not slide my hands during the bottle-grip phase.
Landing - Final was too short, and transition to uprights too scattered. Tried to align with wind at the very end but I was not stable enough.

Windy conditions at launch, and good lift near the ridge allowed for a fun 1hr30m flight. No cloud in the sky so zipped the ridge the whole time. Launch - waited for winds to settle before launching, should have slid the hands lower during the run. Landing - Landing field had strong winds that changed direction during my final, hence last minute maneuver. Should have planned the final better, t...

A nice day @ Tavor Mt. About 1hr 30 min. flight, plenty of lift near the ridge, but no cloud in the sky. Lots of HG and PG in the air. Unfortunately camera stopped after 1hr 15min. for some unknown reason, so last part, where I had a bit of fun going to landing with full speed lost 300m height in 20 sec., a small thermal, and landing approach, all not recorded. Landing recording by pilot on the...

Launch near noon, with conditions getting stronger. Launched with ~20kph winds. Air was very turbulent, especially below launch-site height, where I spent most of my time. Could get enough lift (while there was lift to be had; my buddy did not face any such issues) About 30min in total. Landing with mid-strong wind as well (see the smoke to left of landing zone). Still having issues getting to ...

Good conditions on launch (20-25 kph, 30 kph gusts), Air was turbulant, with limited lift due to haze. An hour of flight with big drop areas, and big lift areas, still limited to 700m due to legal constraints. Landing was not the best, again, belly landing without any damage - probably released energy too high so final drop to ground was due to lack of energy, and no ground-effect glide. Also d...

Flew with a vulture (!!!) but have no footage to show for it, as camera died in last 15min. of the flight, right when it happened Spent an hour and a half near the ridge. Lift everywhere, but limited to 700m legally. Very enjoyable flight, ok-ish visibility. Landing wasn't the best either... had 10-15 kph wind

After long wait (2hrs) for conditions to pick up, launched, Flew for an hour and a half near the ridge. Lift everywhere, but limited to 700m legally. Visibility wasn't great, still, very enjoyable flight. Landing wasn't the best either... had 10-15 kph wind, flared late, probably didn't need to flare at all, ballooned a bit. No damage to glider or pilot :) In a world full of people only some wa...

Launch at 5 kph; Landing 3-5 kph. Flight goals were: 1. Clear launch 2. Fly the ridge a bit (knew in advance there's not going to be any lift; Too stable conditions) 3. Go to LZ, do S-maneuvers to lose height, approach final correctly 4. Land on my feet Abs. failed #4, side wire hit my face on the way down, minor bruises. Not sure why :/

Enjoy the life you have been very lucky. I hope for you you have learn to fly corectly since that accident or just stop and keep on the ground. I dont read the description you made and on first second of video i realize your are totally beginner in high conditions. YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE TAKE OFF with your experience. I dont know who tell you you can fly at this moment but this is the primary mistake. A lot of accident happens like too hard conditions for the skill of the pilot. Air is invisible but it is like water... nobody who beginning will never go in a huge river whith a canoe but stay in the lake... For hanggliding and paragliding the real security is before the start... Really 2nd hgh fly like this...change instructor or take one really better!

For what it's worth. The pilot is not flying the hang glider, instead the hang glider is flying the pilot...a bag of sand instead of a pilot would have faired just the same. Points: Take off and landings are crucial skills that can't be overstated. The pilot should be in charge 100% of the time (except in case of equipment failure), anything other than that, and you'd be in trouble.

It doesn’t help trying to land crosswind in a windward slope lift. While still high and infront of the road he could have just headed down slope to the flat fields below…why try to land on the slope at all?

The strap you hang from is your yoke. You need to move your body weight (all of it) in the direction you want the yoke to control your flight.

As soon as he took off, I knew he was in trouble. Dude wasn't shifting his entire body weight from side to side, ie. he would shift his torso to the left, and his legs would swing to the right, and visa versa.

Put in a Wind Sox for the land zone. Your Hang strap could be adjusted higher up for easier landings. Do more figure 8s and turn your glider more left and right turns. Figure 8s help you in higher winds when learning what speed to fly. Find a steeper launch site with a landing zone just below for safety and fast turn around on doing turns sooner near launch site.

  • @martinfreiwald3094
    @martinfreiwald3094 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Get a wind sox for the landing area. Find a steeper launch site with a closer landing zone. Do a 360 to find the wind direction 900 feet AGL before you land. Go to the best sites in Italy to stay in the sport.

Estabas girando pegado al rotor y sotavento del cerro de sabora, esta es una zona de no sustentación y turbulenta, no tenía sentido girar en ese sitio. Me alegro que todo acabara bien, podría haber sido fatal.

when a down wind dragged me into a down spiral, a total loss of control<<<<<< MMM no, there was nothing downwind about that other than your relationship to the ground. If you don't know that as a pilot you better learn quick as your experience showed. That last turn was silly as hell. You never had the altitude.

  • @maxonthetrack

Clearly a newer pilot. Tentative in getting into the harness and in his control inputs. Many of us have had that oh shit moment and lived to learn from it thank goodness. Not sure if the pilot was under 'radio control' but if he was he should have been instructed to keep a much larger margin for error.
