EW Heavy Weapon System Expansion Pack for RG Hi-Nu Gundam - Is it worth?
i subscribed as soon as i saw your vid on instinct while searching for brush painting.. queeestion, can i use my fine tip pen marker over the gloss coat for panel lining?
Thanks for subbing! Honestly, I never used the pen on the acrylic coat, but I’m pretty sure that the chemicals you’ll need to clean up would mess up both coat and paint. If you don’t want to use an acrylic filler/wash and clean it with water, I would suggest to just use a spray gloss topcoat, like the one from Mr. Hobby
thank you for non-airbrush guides, makes painting feel a lot more approachable
Thank you! Paint brushing is totally approachable, it just need a bit of training and time.
Great vid man. I love some good detail work.
Glad you like it
Just want to confirm, does the topcoat from sheikmainland protect the paint while doing the panel line?
It will protect the paint only from an acrylic filler/wash cleaned with water. If you use Tamiya panel liner or Mr. Weathering Color, for example, the chemicals you will you need to use to clean up will totally ruin both the coating and the paint.
@@TeaandGunpla thanks so much for your guidance
No worries! Happy to help
The shoulders are tricky to make posable and stable. The problem is if you stabilize one part the pressure is transferred to the other part then the elbow and so on. It's a real hornets nest. Ultra lite florocarbon line used in finishing threaded between the 90° bends over (under the armor) down the back would do it but would need adjustment every time you pose it. This is the problem with our kits. They don't have muscles and tendons, just friction and joints.
I know, right? That's why some external support really helps. The beam cannons actually weight on the torso, and that's pretty stable. I managed to create a couple of brackets to keep them in place too. I think it should work fine.
I feel so much comfortable to hand paint with this tutorial!!!!! I can say it did changed my life.Thank you!!!
I'm really happy you found it helpful!
I found the sheik mainland paints on aliexpress with the same number code, only issue is instead of K they have the same number with W for example the metal frame is labeled BT3057W, is this the same type of paint? Or would it be incompatible
It is the same paint, don’t worry.
@@TeaandGunplathank you!
You’re welcome!
How many kits can be painted with one of each tiny paint bottle like that?
It really depends on the model. Taking the MG Gouf as an example and blue, which is the main color, I should be able to do 5 or 6 of them with one bottle.
Turn a and Greco Are AU good they are frustrating.
How to undo mistake on making XXXXG-01 WING GUNDAM step 01-3 C40 facing wrong side
I checked the manual and your best safe bet is using a part separator. Even the one that comes with Lego pieces should be good
What a treat, great day out. I hope they don’t phase out mg else I will be in financial trouble building pg lol. Struggle with 1/144
MG are my favorite line for sure, I really hope they will revive it…
Such a cool event I hope I get an opportunity to go to it one day
Keep an eye open around your area. Sooner or later Bandai will be there!
@@TeaandGunpla it is unlikely considering where I live but I can always hope.
what brand of metallic markers did you use for this video?
They’re from Ray Studio. You can find more info in the video description
How much are the hg, rg and mgs there? Im currently in hong kong...
I don’t remember all the prices and it depends on the model, but HG were around 100 to 200 hkd, RG 150 to 300 and mg 250 to 500/600 (Ver.Ka). The one I got were: RG Crossbone 165 ,RG wing 200, HG Barbados and Barl 95 each. If you have time it’s worth to take a look in my opinion.
@TeaandGunpla Oh yeah I have to consider how far it is. Thank youuu
No worries! If the event is way out of your area, check out Sino Center in Mong Kok, 582 Nathan Road. You can find a decent amount of shops selling Gunpla and sometimes I managed to snatch great ones for an amazing price
I love these Pop Up stores!
Hey nice video :) I just got a similar eraser tool and was wondering how to clean it. I've read you can use enamel thinner to clean it but I can't manage to get the black out of it. and is already pretty dirty after cleaning a few pieces (I used Tamiya panel liner )
Thank you! First of all, don’t expect miracles. You can clean it but it won’t get white again. What it will do is stopping leaving black streak marks. With Tamiya just get zippo lighter fluid, damp the eraser and pass it multiple times on some absorbent paper. Repeat the process until it doesn’t leave any color on the paper. Still, be prepared to change the tip at least once for every kit, if not more.
@@TeaandGunpla I see, this makes sense. I saw someone showing a perfectly white tip and saying they used it already on like 3 kits, so my expectations were a bit skewed. Still one tip per kit is not that bad, not sure if it's worth it over regular cotton buds tho. Thanks for the quick answer!
No worries! I still think they clean better than cotton buds, and they're more eco friendly too!
awesome tip! i posed a question to my gunpla group on FB about what to do with used runners. thank you for the best answer ever!!!
Thank you! There are a lot of ways to reuse your runners, this is one of many. Glad you enjoyed it!
TBH i sometime scare of repeat doing same things (God Strike Freedom dragoons were) and need to paint all Thrusters repeat X numbers of Thrusters 😰😰😰
I know right? But at least there aren’t too many kits with an exaggerated number of thrusters!!
@@TeaandGunpla Nightingal: .... 🤣🤣
Your awesome 😊 what's the name brand of markers did u used and is it metallic?
Thank you! They are metallic markers from Ray Studio. You can find more detailed info in the video description
👍👍👍
Thank you for this video! I will try one of the methods, if I manage to find the supplies... No shop here where I live sells them :(
Thank you for watching! I hope you can maybe find some good online shop that can deliver in your area, that would be your best bet....
When I started I bought all the tools I used. Now that I have been building for 10+ years I make my own tools mainly for comfort 😂 (except for nippers and sanding sponges. Still buy quality ones)
That’s a nice skill to have indeed! I honestly like to collect tools, it’s like a hobby of mine
After you paint finish your part. Is it okay to use a spray gloss coat like Mr Top coat gloss instead of painting a gloss coat on?
It’s totally fine, you can use any gloss topcoat you prefer.
@ thank you!! Looking forward to more tutorials and uploads from u
Thank you for the support! Don’t worry, more content is on its way
Is it okay if the top coat is lacquer based?@@TeaandGunpla
It’s a bit risky to be honest. Lacquer is really strong and there is the risk to ruin the paint. I would avoid it. Stick to enamel or acrylic and make sure the paint is nicely dried
Wow, good work! Goes to show what you can achieve with a brush and paint, and patience. Very inspiraing.
Absolutely! Never underestimate the power of the brush!
👍👍💯
When I saw the thumbnail I was like "Oh noo. Wtf happened here". Good recovery tho goodjob!❤ I always have a molten runner in acrylic thinner. It levels easily on application if its thin and can act like a putty when thick enough.
Thank you! I totally should have mention this in my video… Bad oversight from me! Probably is going to be an idea for some future content.
Do you think you could do a tutorial on giving a candy coat effect?
I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge fan of it! But I’ll sign it down and, if I can fit on the schedule, I’ll cover it!
Pretty good technique! Saving this for my projects in the future, thanks for the video!
No problem! Thank you for watching!
I don't have the money nor the patience for this otherwise great guide.
Unfortunately patience is a required skill for most of Gunpla customization!
Great tutorial
Thank you!
very clear instructions and a great video I enjoyed it very much Keep up the great work!
Glad you enjoyed it!
If you lightly sand the surface after engraving, sometimes dust can lodge itself inside those lines. A make-up brush from the dollar store will make quick work of that.
There's a side benefit to also having a cheap cutting blade set in addition to that. With a Dremel, you can modify the blades you don't need for other purposes, like shaving a thin engraved line to the side of where two parts meet or making generic chamfer shapes. Takes a bit of practice and creative planning, but you can achieve some great engraving effects with that and a cheapo set only costs ten bucks or so.
Damn, I never thought of that, that's a pretty good tecnique, thank you. Aditionally, if one has some paints around but doesn't have any metallic colors, you can mix 10/15% metallic silver with 85/90% any solid color to make a metallic version of it, though it might not be as saturated as bought ones.
Thank you for watching! And also for the tip. It's a good one
Awesome technique love drybrushing and will yake any excuse to incorporate more of it into my workflow
Thank you! Let me know if you try out this one
Seems like a lot less hassle than trying to do it with an airbrush that needs a quick clean after every single color.
It is pretty fast, once you get the hang of it you can make a whole thruster in 15/20 minutes (apart waiting for everything to dry of course)
I also achieved a fantastic Burnt metal effect by doing a matte topcoat and applying a generous amount of weathering powder, then apply a final topcoat! The finish may be a little delicate, but if you're going through the process of detailing, then you Goulding he handling it too much
That's a good idea! I should try it sooner or later
I really like that glossy finish since it retains the "metallic" feel into it. but you can never go wrong with a flat coat
It's really up to personal preference. The glossy finish unfortunately enhance any mistake you may do, that's has to be kept in consideration
I have an airbrush and that fact that you managed to do this with markers is amazing! thinking about it, this can be translated to handpainting and airbrushing too! Thanks for this
I don't have space for a proper airbrush setup, so I learned a lot of other ways to still have nice painted models! Thank you for watching
Awesome
Excellent results! I like your technique of using markers! In the past I used Tamiya weathering powders or, in some cases, inks. Your method seems faster and with very good results. I’ll give it a try!
Thanks! I think the metal markers really grant an easy and fast way to get a great result. Let me know if you try!
@, I’ll surely will. I only need to find some of the metallic color markers (purple and light blue). Ciao from Italy!
If you want, Ray Studio has a black Friday discount going on their website. Just throwing it there (I swear its not a sponsorship, I wish I could get some money out of it lol). Maybe you can ask Babbo Natale for a Christmas early gift... Ciao!
@ , grazie (are you Italian by any chance?)
Si, pensavo l’accento fosse abbastanza ovvio 😅
you just proved my theory that this can be done using markers. thanks its so amazing 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you so much! Happy to confirm your theory too
OOooooooh Sooraaa yooooo~ Awesome work man!
Thank you!
SKYY HIIIIIGHHHH
Nice technique! Leaning towards the flat coat, myself.
I know, right? I’m not a great fan of shiny Gunplas. They feel less real
I hope you will enjoy the video! Let me know if you have any questions.
nice simple and beautiful
Thanks!
Beautiful work!
Thank you!
I also hand painted model kits when a child. They didnt have airbrush in my day. Won awards. Im now 60 years old and still hand brush my models. Cant wait to do my gunpla and armored core kits. I recommend watching people on TH-cam paint, it really gives good ideas. Ideas i had to learn long before internet and TH-cam. Trial and error. And there was not even half the stuff they have today. Watch people paint WW2 Models for weathering ideas. Enjoy people and make your kit your own. Paint it.
Should start a old school tutorial videos ✌🏽
@diegobearriver nahhh everyone knows all the tricks now. Only thing I could teach is how to save money by not buying everything at the hobby store for supplies. Why pay 40 dollars for a dry brush when a woman makeup brush from the dollar store for 4 dollars is just the same.
Im not an airbrush user. Cant aford it. And i get better control hand painting and not having to spend tons of time masking. Not a fan of masking as paint bleeds under tape. I will say this. Buy a can spray primer and primer it that way. So much faster and a more even coat. I use white for bright colours and darker for dark. Learned that in art school, what ever is underneath the paint as a palet changes other colour on top. No need to buy expensive dry brush brushes just go to a dollar store and buy womens makeup brushes way cheaper. Buddy at hobby store wanted $50 for one dry brush. I paid $2 dollars for 5 different sizes in a women cosmetic kit... Just some ideas. And also womens nail sanding pads are cheaper. My choice of paint is Tamiya water base has bigger cap to dip brush, so no need for a wet sponge container to keep paint wet. Happy painting folks. 🙂
What panel line paint you use that doesn't eat through paint when you clean it without a top coat?
I don't have one. I always apply a coat or varnish to protect the paint. Which one I use depends on the panel liner. for an acrylic wash I use an acrylic varnish, for Tamiya panel liner or Mr. weathering Color I use the Mr. Hobby spray topcoat.
@TeaandGunpla thanks a lot! Saved me some big mistake
