#8 - Building a personal CRM | Amplenote 101
It's not just you -- it's hard for everyone to remember names! In this tutorial, Shu Omi talks about one of his favorite use cases for Amplenote -- remembering who you've met and what you know about them. Shu illustrates that by thoughtfully applying a tag hierarchy, you can track relations across different domains of your life (business, personal, etc) while helping you to recall key details of your previous encounters. Or just their birthday. :)

Don't bother with this app. Evernote is so much better.
You repeat, "just type this," or "just type that"" to navigate. Where do you type? Using windows app or browser app.
Do you mind mentioning specifically which part of the video you are referring to? In case you are referring to the "Quick Open", or the main way to navigate in Amplenote, then the answer is something like this: on Windows you press Ctrl-O while Amplenote is the focused window. This brings up the "Quick Open" menu and automatically places your cursor in the search bar. The search bar lets you navigate to notes or modes quickly, by typing their name. So when Shu says "type in Calendar", he means you that in in the search bar I just mentioned. All of the "type to navigate" features are most likely happening in this menu. Ctrl-O -> then type where you wanna go. Let us know if this doesn't make sense.
Are you being chased by someone? Good lord! Slow down man.
How to create the line after reflection and checklist?
Hey there! You can type in three dashes in a row: ---
New to Amplenote. Definitely plan on staying. However, so many options. So much to learn. Your videos are very informative! Q: where is the promised third one?
Great application and a smart move of @Amplenote to change the price plans. Now it presents a really good value for the investment. Amplenote solves most of the problems we face in handling our workflows, and in doing so saves both time and money. We can now eliminate most of our plethora of applications like Notion, Evernote, Taskade and SmartSuite/Airtable (for others maybe ClickUp, Asana or Monday). During our process to move over notes and tasks from elsewhere, by exporting in Markdown(.md) format, we also got the change to implement GTD (Get Things Done by David Allen) in a more streamlined fashion. We are still on a trial period but have decided to pay for the Pro Plan. P.S. Our main focus is course production around how to effectively market your business online, primarily for the Spanish speaking market. D.S.
I used this reminder but it didn't work
Amplenote could be my only app, could switch from Evernote, but…. Can’t change to 24hrs. Why?
Is there a way to mirror a bullet point?
Not right now, but pretty soon mirroring tasks will be possible.
I want to love the integration of Notes+Tasks+Calendar... The idea is strong... it just feels like it can't replace Task Management apps like TickTick/Todoist/Reminders/etc... at least not yet. A lot of Tasks in my lists are related to Projects I track in my Notes (in the spirit of GTD/PARA), where Projects are work that takes multiple steps over time and live in my Notes... The ability for much deeper integration between my Project Note and the related Tasks would be *amazing*. The ideas about Domains for separate integrations with Personal vs. Work is also great. I love the native Urgent/Important based prioritization vs simple High/Medium/Low flags. However, not all Tasks warrant a Project/Note (again, in the spirit of GTD/PARA where if it is a one-step Task, don't bother with the overhead of creating a Project/Note for it)... And the suggestions for creating placeholder Notes to associate those Tasks with just feels off (not intuitive, unnecessary overhead, extra steps of association, more clutter in Notes, etc). It would be great if Tasks could function separately from Notes, i.e. Tasks don't have to be linked to Notes, they can have Start & Due Dates, their own tagging, their own notes/description, etc... If I could have standalone Tasks a la Ticktick/Todoist/Reminders/etc, AND also have deep integration where my Project-related Tasks seamlessly work with my Projects/Notes and my To Do list... TAKE MY MONEY. However, if I can't fully replace TickTick/Todoist/Reminders/etc, then I need to maintain my To Do Lists in those separately from Amplenote and do the good-old-fashion manual cross-linking between Notes & Tasks (i.e. I wouldn't use Amplenote for some Tasks and still maintain a separate app for other Tasks... I'll just do it all in my Task Mgt App). So now the decision comes down to just the Notes module and the value I can get out of that over my existing Notes app... Maybe... But the whole package isn't as compelling as the spirit/idea it was created with.
I totally have an Apple note with birthdays and when I last contacted them (to keep from going 6 months without calling my grandma, etc). Didn’t even think to bring it over. Also, I didn’t notice the second level tags on previous vids. That’s going to be SUPER useful.
Amplenote you need to make more videos if you want more ppl using your app
Thank you for this tutorial series! 1:40 I noticed a change In 2024 on Windows 11, using Ctrl+Shift+. (period) does not appear to jump to linked notes, but instead formats the paragraph into a sidebar/quote style. Still very useful but was surprised when it wasn't what the tutorial called for. I may not fully understand linked notes yet either, so could be user error. Ctrl+Shift+, (comma) seems to do both back and forth action between linked notes, just have to use it twice to get back.
needs update badly...menus have all changed. 😂
I could not add a shortcut because I do not know the address of the task list in the sidebar. Isn't the task list shown in this video the task list in the sidebar? Are you saying that I should create a new note named Task List and add its address to the shortcut?
Hey there! This video has been outdated in the meantime. Now you can more easily add new tasks using your device's built in "Share sheet". Make sure to visit our help center (amplenote.com/help) and look for the words "share sheet". to find more info on this!
I cant sync across Gmail. All task from Amplenote dont goes to Gcalendar
same problem. did you find any solution?
nice video. Why not new videos?
How can I implement deadlines as well as start dates to my tasks?
Deadlines are not a feature of Amplenote at the moment, but they are coming soon!
I agree with @daviddutymentor, your tutorial is simply the best I have seen. Clear, concise and made sense of things incredibly well. I have only just discovered amplenote but am loving it already and I havent even created a note yet. Great video and immensely helpful. I now plan to migrate away from Notion in the coming days. Thank you.
Amplenote widget only shows few tasks, but it has whole screem! Is there any limitatiom ? Also how much plugin helps you expand etc?
Too much work in comparison to evernote
I really wish the plugin would capture all the html of the webpage you’re trying to capture instead of just an image
Amplenote just abondoned their app after charging people $120 per year. Nothing else had happen for 2 years. Is the owner/developer still alive?
Excellent video, thanks for explaining
You move along a bit too fast for beginners like me.
I'm watching this how-to video two years after the fact. I think all of Amplenote's tutorial needs to be dumbed-down, and flow a little slower for us newbies.
Have you found a fix for the outlook calendar issue? I’m struggling with the same thing
Features rich but very intuitive for beginners. I think it would benefit from getting rid of some complexity layers. Especially with how tags, jots, notes, and Tasks Domain interact with each other. Particularly Tasks Domain from the tasks already present inside the app. I think most Most people are here for the task/calendar integration
I just wanted to quickly see all tasks on the calendar view, not intuitive at all
Thank you
it doesn't search what's in the notes??? Yikes!
Thank you, I just found Amplenote. I have ADHD, and this is the first app that feels intuitive. I'm looking forward to becoming a better user.
This tutorial isn't basic enough for me. For example, how do I create a tag? I can't use the quick open to filter by tags if I don't know how to create them. Where's a tutorial for a total newby?
That's a good point & a beginner pain point that we intend to rectify. At the moment, you can only create a tag in Amplenote by attaching it to a note first. So you just need to open any existing note or create a new one, then click the empty tag field found under the note title to create a new tag. Let us know if this helps.
Loved it!
I spent 2 days trying to understand this app. Sorry, but I can't write a simple text with Title and normal text without any complication. I gave up. If u are reading this coment, I suggest you to jump out. Or u can be a high level organized brain person and solve fast these dificulties.
Love this app! Only thing that would make it better would be some sort of obsidian integration. These two are my go-to apps and would love to see them work together better
Is it just me or or does the narrator sound like the GEICO gecko?
Thanks for the informative Shu-torial series amplenote.
do you have any customer support and sales email for this product? or any vendor in UAE can support us.
Not only is this the best how to, but I just had a key lime pie
Your two videos on Amplenote are the best ones on You Tube. You mentioned doing a third one.
Is your course for Amplenote up to date with the current version? Thanks.
This app is very underrated. All the important features are here and well thought through. But because there's a learning curve, its hard for people to adopt especially if they are new or disorganised. I would consider switching, but after 2 years invested in Notion, its a challenge.
We are in the process of moving out of a plethora consisting of Notion, Evernote, Taskade, SmartSuite and Airtable. I know - it's crazy 🙂! Thanks to the ability to export and then import material in the Markdown (.md) format, we have been able to quickly move over thousands of tasks and notes. As you point out, there is a learning curve, but we feel it's worth it, because it helps us to be more focused and organized, while implementing the GTD principles in planning and executing our projects. But I'm not sure whether this would be a good fit for a larger team. In our case we are talking about 2-3 individuals, planning and marketing courses online for entrepreneurs, with a focus on the Spanish-speaking market. BTW, I really appreciate your own YT channel. You can find Amplenote widgets after long-pressing on your home screen and tapping the plus sign in the top left corner. We also have a help article on it, but feel free to email us if you're having trouble finding the widgets.
Thank you. Quick and effective!!!
Yall need mathjax or some kind of math type.
Adjust the playback speed to 75% and it's much easier to follow.
Your videos are way to fast IMHO. I have to stop them every 4 seconds and go back and watch it again, stop it, play it, go back, over and over again. Please slow down. Your videos are going 100 MPH and people are in a 30 MPH learning mode. I'm currently using TickTick and like the simplicity it offers. I'm having a major issue with where to "store" notes. TickTick has Folders and I put any task into a folder. I can also tag the note or task in TickTick. There is a YT'er name Jonathan Best and he has great short videos on how to use TickTick's features. They are slow enough to actually follow what he is doing. I have yet to see any videos about Amplenote that are slow enough for me to follow. I don't know where to start. How could I put tasks/notes into what TickTick has named folders? I'm sure that some people can follow your videos and understand what to do. I am not one of those people. I think it would be very helpful if someone could make a few videos about how an average person could use Amplenote. Things like taking out the trash every Monday at 10 AM. Or setting up a list of special dates; birthdays or anniversaries, etc., and where in the world would you store these for easy reference. Please help me with this as I like the way Applenote looks but I'm really lost on how to "store" the in specific "folders". I know you don't have folders so how do you do this?
Hey David! Agreed that the density of information per minute can be quite high. To that end, please consider using TH-cam's speed controls (for example to set the speed to something like 0.5x), such that the video can be easier to follow, while we make the time to work on guides that are slower and at least as useful. In Amplenote, tasks live inside notes and notes can be tagged with a tag. There are a lot of options for how to organize things, but when migrating from TickTick we think a good analogy is that Amplenote notes are equivalent to TickTick folders. Most people create a note called "Birthdays" and create reminders for specific dates in that note. The same people would create a separate note called "Habits", or "Chores", or "Events", each containing a specific kind of "task". We go into a lot of real-life use cases on our blog, so please consider taking a look? I won't include a link here, due to how YT tends to block comments containing links, but look for "Community Sampler" on Amplenote's official blog. Let us know if you have any questions. You can always contact us at support@amplenote, or on our Reddit and Discord communities.
