เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 2 พ.ย. 2013
The channel's intended audience is very select. Poppy, Max and Leo. As an older Dad I am very aware that my time with the kids is limited. I hope that the memories shared here will make them think fondly of me and inspire other dads.
I know nothing about motorcycle maintenance but you can follow along with me as I try to keep my VFR1200F, CMX1100 Rebel and X-ADV 750 in a safe state. When you see me make a mistake please leave a comment.
When you can't get out on the bike because you have child minding duties, what better way to spend the time than working on the bike with the kids in tow.
Bike maintenance following the advice of those youtube gurus Lemmy, Spurge, Ari, Rod Rides and Wrenches, Graham VFR , Bret and NC750 Stuff.

Döstädning - Introduction and First Steps
#1 Döstädning Introduction : My kids (9, 6 and 3) are always asking me if they can have my stuff when I am dead. I am sixty now. Sure I say, what is left of it. I have been going through a process of reducing, recycling and selling as much as I can. I am now moving everything personal to me into my study. If it does not go in - it has to go out. I have done this many times through my life, only now it has a name : Swedish Death Cleaning - Döstädning.

Toyota GR86 Ownership : As good as a motorbike?
มุมมอง 9076 หลายเดือนก่อน
Having watched all of the reviews and been offered the chance to buy I succumbed to the hype. Two thousand miles into ownership here are the top 5 positives in order of importance to me: (1) I get the sort of driving enjoyment that I have only previously experienced on a motorbike. Steering and how the car feels going around tight bends. On a tight twisty road third gear is all you need. Reason...
Honda VFR1200F Dropped - At sixty years old can I pick it up?
มุมมอง 11K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
A lack of concentration led to me dropping the VFR1200F in the garage. A real nightmare with such a heavy bike. At 267kg it just seemed impossible for me at first. I had to let my brain work on the problem before making an attempt. I had some help from my three year old son. The lesson I have learnt is this - I am sixty now and really need to get fitter to slow the decline - I am now in the dan...
Owner's Review 2022 Honda Rebel CMX1100 DCT

I have had the Rebel for two seasons and without a doubt it is the easiest bike to ride that I have ever owned or tried.
VFR1200F DCT Rear Brake Inspection
มุมมอง 2.1Kปีที่แล้ว
This is a short video of my inspection on my 'new to me' 2013 Honda VFR1200F DCT. I need to go over all the things on this bike to get familiar with it and make sure everything is working and maintained. I bought the bike in December 2022 and the breaks were terrible so that is where I started.
VFR1200F DCT - Just a little bit embarrassing, is it too heavy for me?
มุมมอง 40Kปีที่แล้ว
I did not notice the weight when I collected the bike and drove it 500 miles home over two days. It then went into the garage and this is the video of the first time I have taken it out and moved it around. This is my first impressions of the weight and it is a little bit embarrassing. The bike is a 2013 VFR1200F DCT with 19K miles on the clock.
VFR1200F Front Brake Inspection
มุมมอง 2.9Kปีที่แล้ว
I bought a used VFR1200F a couple of weeks ago and got it home and into the garage before the snow started. First job was to check over the front brake as it was weak, spongy and the lever was pulling all the way back to the handlebar.
Honda X-ADV 750 Owner's 3 year review and MOT checks
มุมมอง 31Kปีที่แล้ว
Honda X-ADV 750 owner's 3 year review of a 2019 model. This was purchased new from Eccosse Motorcycles in Dundee, Scotland. Five thousand miles and three winters. In the UK a three year old bike must have a safety check, called an MOT (Ministry of Transport). It is worthwhile checking over the basics a few weeks before the test and fixing obvious problems. Here I do a final check prior to takin...
MK6 VW Golf R Used Car Buyers Guide

The kids really love the new car. A nine year old VW Golf R. One lady owner but what should you look out for when buying one second hand. There is always the risk when buying a used car. So far so good.
Small Glen Shee, Scotland

I decided to go hiking in Small Glen Shee so packed up the X-ADV. It was hovering just above zero celsius at the head of the trail. I turned around after crossing the ford in Small Glen Shee.
Honda X-ADV 750 - Scotoiler X-System chain oiler install
มุมมอง 6K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Honda X-ADV 750 and Scotoiler X-System, a look through the instructions with Max, then a review of the steps end-to-end with Poppy. The installation was straight forward with no major problems. I did need to buy the special push through cable ties to secure the reservoir under the X-ADV seat. Update after 3 years and 6000 miles:. all going well and the chain and sprockets look like new

First look at the Helite Turtle 2 Airbag Vest with the kids. Testing if they can set it off. Fixing it up to the Honda X-ADV. Loading motorbikes into a VW Caravelle Multivan with a Oxford Motorcycle Ramp a 2015 T5 Transporter

Loading two Kawasaki KLE500 motorbikes into the back of a VW Caravelle - selling on the project bike. This was using an Oxford Motorcycle Ramp. Took out all the seats from the VW Caravelle, this is a VW T5 Transporter derivative. I had bought these two bikes with the view to learning a bit more about motorcycle maintenance. One of the first dual sports motorbikes and this model coming up to its...
Honda X-ADV 750 Denali Soundbomb installation

Honda X-ADV 750 Denali Soundbomb installation
Had a VFR 1200 DCT for 6 years; with panniers and top box but unfortunately at 64 it just got to heavy to move into my back garden, so now have a NC 750x DCT and love it.
Great video. No fooling her. She knew which pannier held more toys. And her brother, what a character. ❤😂😊
Is the stand an original Honda? I found out that my main stand was an after market which was difficult to get on and off. Once I replaced it with the oem, my vfr12f became much easier to get on and off.
Good regular exercise routine
just bike normal scooter and forget about chain. And if have chain buy a normal bike. XADV and Forza 750 is just a mistake because of the chain
The X-ADV was the most versatile bike I have ever owned. If it had shaft drive it would be perfect.
I got an FJR 1300 2009 290kg.. I know what you mean.
It gave me the motivation to hit the gym.
Sloped working area is always going to make everything harder.
You got that right!
Hi Brian you may have already thought of this but I use a metal turntable for my tracer 9, so ride in my garage turn it on the turntable and come out forward. Two point's you need a centre stand and be able to lift the front wheel by pushing down on the back of the bike so you can rotate it, easy on my tracer but not so easy on my 1050 vstrom.
Cool idea!
If you can't pick it up, your done riding.
So true.
I own a BMW K1200GT, I believe even a bit heavier. Moving it backwards out of the shed I always do it sitting on the bike. You do not feel the weight so much and you are actually in total a bit narrower as you are not standing next to the bike. Moving it forward is easy, after all it has an engine... And, as I never use water to clean my bikes (as water equals rust), I do all my cleaning inside the shed.
Pushing the bike is a lifelong habit and hard to change.
My compliments for how you managed the situation!I owned exactly the same model, year, colour, with similar equipment. And i also work with over 10 of these models on a regular basis. Be asured you're in good company: Not a single one of those machines has not been dropped, at least ones. First thing i mounted on mine, was an effictive crash pad. Tryed it out myself and it saved me a lot of money....
Lucky for me no damage at all. Just a bruised ego.
My comment is very much after horse has bolted. Whenever I use a side stand, before doing so, I engage 1st gear, clutch out roll forward to take up slack in the chain or shaft drive. Once the bike will not move further forward, then use the side stand. It won’t fall off the stand. If you leave it parked that way, if another motorcycle behind is being taken off the main stand and hits your rear wheel, your bike will remain on the stand as there is no slack for it to be pushed forwards. I hope this makes sense, well done picking it up though! 😊
DCT so that was not possible.
Your command of the f word us awesome!
I called myself so much worse.
I'ts always a shock when a bike over balances, it's proper panic stations, it's natural to try & save it, but ideally get out the way, avoid injury ... Bit silly having a kid around during the lift, if you'd failed to get it back upright, the kid could easily have been badly hurt ...
You are right there. I was lucky.
Stuff happens when you are busy. If only the mat had been bigger to cushion the left pod. I'm looking to find a nice 2012+ VFR dct. Thanks for the vija.😊
No damage so I was lucky.
Have a propper breakfast in the morning, then you can handle your ride!
You got that right!
Nice bike Brian. Pretty sure I met you on it at Tescos Blairgowrie and we had a chat.
I hope I sold you on the X-ADV.
Good job! One question: why did you not put it on the center stand? Much safer when you have to loosen the wheel nuts. An impact driver is not a bad idea either. I have a baby VFR (750F) and an 1150GS, using the impact driver to undo the wheel nuts is a piece of cake. I have an electric one with a cord and they are fairly inexpensive.
Being DCT you can't put it in gear to get leverage to slacken the nuts.
Sir, how do you solve the infamous untimely DCT jerky characteristic ? p.s. I heard the 2021 model has re-tuned and solve that problem
I did not find the X-ADV that jerky also with the rear brake being under your left hand it makes feathering the brake like a clutch more initiative.
Still got it?
Last few days with it. ~£2K valve check service is due. Dodged that and traded my X-ADV and VFR in for a BMW R1250R (242kg). Once I tried the BMW it made it clear how far technology has come since the VFR was launched. How poor the VFR suspension is in comparison to the BMW. Owning the VFR has made me a be a much better and more confident rider. Fantastic bike.
Hope you have more luck with the BMW than my friend did. He bought a 2017 RS from BMW dealer. ....had to call out BMW rescue several times....just kept stopping and not starting. Believe a common fault.
Lovely bike....I have it's adventure-styled brother, the vfr1200x. One tip I can pass on is never put a bike away wet.....water in all those nooks and crannies that a drying cloth won't reach...it's just asking for corrosion to set in...ask me how I know! I invested in one of those hot air pet / bike dryers....about £60 on Amazon. They work extremely well at removing all traces of water from a bike.
Thanks for the tip, I am off the age I am more worried about me getting rusty.
Wow you're pretty old for 60 Do you smoke, or workout?
Too much sex, drugs and rock n' roll.
@@StayAtHomeBiker So, what's the carpet for?
These things happen, no damage is a fantastic result. Time from some crash bungs, they are pretty easy to fit, I've also got Trex engine protectors on my DCT, they are the only company I've found that do them
You should be careful watering it, it might grow and get heavier ;) You've got a unicorn with the 45l top box, nice - much better than the smaller one. I find it easier to hold both bars when pushing it off the centre stand.
Get down to the gym, mate.
Sure will, thanks.
Kudos to you for showing this. Take it easy and enjoy you’re bike 👍
Thanks, will do!
Honestly mate - THAT'S FINE ... few months ago I dropped my Viffer 2006, while I was dismateling it after a long journey ( I just can't tell you how I was feeling at that point - I worked hard to buy it) ... These are heavy bikes, it happens ! The most import is that you are safe and alright ! Mine, dragged me down and nearly fell over me but I had full gear and the bike had good protectors.
It could have been worse.
Great video. Thanks. A rear brake video would be great
Noted!
I was 38 when I got mine and I struggle to move it. I always start mine now to move it.
It is a bit of a squeeze in the garage and I find pushing it in the best option.
We’ve all done it. Well done for getting the big girl back up on your own.
Been hitting the gym since, this was a wake-up call.
VFR for sale. New back tire. Minor scratch from when previous owner dropped it in the garage moving it.
Luckily no damage from that drop - previous owner dropped it on the other side in a car park and there are a few scuffs from that. Honest.
Well done! I dropped my 2010, 2 days after I bought it for my 65th bday. No way in hell I could pick it up, but one of my friend’s boyfriend, didn’t have any problem picking it up. Glad o had the help! Ride safe…
You ride safe too.
Awesome videography and scenic view of the bike! 👍
Thanks! 👍
Yes very bad luck indeed and we've all done it,however imagine that you could only lift it halfway and let it go again, and that little child was under it. Doesn't bear thinking about does it,,, very lucky this time and thoughtless at the same time
I did cringe when I watch the video for the first time.
I’m seventy years old myself. I have a Kawasaki ZZR 1200 it is a pain getting it out from the garage I sit on it and let it roll down . Getting it in is easy just drive it in to garage.
Yes started doing that
These are a right heavy lump, got rid of mine after only a year as it was too cramped and the low speed fuelling shockingly bad (early bike)
Fueling not improved much on this 2013 either.
Those Honda OEM cases look exactly like my CTX700 luggage.
I think they are common across a number of models. I still have the SW Motech Trax adv. Highly recommended.
Been there many times and hat's off to you for managing to get it up, doubt I could. I'm not as confident as you wheeling bikes around, I tend to mount them (Fnaar Fnaar!!!) and paddle, well past the point of bothering about pride. Not a criticism but why didn't you try to loosen the nuts and/or remove the wheel with the bike on the centre stand? I only use the sidestand when I've have no other option. I've had bikes topple when they dug in, had a fallen rider's bike skid into mine and topple it and had them snap on me. I just don't have much faith in them. Well done and good to see minimal damage done: from another ancient Scot, who's probably too old and should know better
Really like your username....
This situation can happen to everyone. Thank you for the video 👍
I hope people who watch learn from my stupidity.
Run ther engine sit on it no problem
Never had to do it that way before. Getting older. Bike is too heavy to move around without proper planning.
you can sell it and buy a lighter bike. You can hurt yerself. I have a similar bike and I regret buying it
That is what must happen, I just don't want to admit to getting old.
Nice one Mate. As you say, don't rush into trying to pick it up. I ride a BMW R1250RS which, weighs about 240kg and have purposely laid it down in my garage, just to see if i can get it back up, no problem at all 👍. By the way I'm about 11.5 stone and 70 years old 🏍😃.
Many thanks, that is very encouraging, I hope BMW put their new automatic clutch on the R or RS. That would be great to try as I am a huge fan of honda's DCT.
Better start doing some squats!
Yes sir. I have started a fitness campaign. 60-70 is the decade of doom.
I’ve dropped several of my bikes over the last 45 years, which wasn’t too big a problem when I was younger and bikes were lighter. I’m 63 now and a few weeks ago my R1200RT went over in a Starbucks car park. My initial reaction was ‘get it back up before people see you dropped it’ but then I thought, ‘what the hell, it happens, give it some thought’. Fortunately the driveway to my garage is flat so I don’t have manoeuvring issues but I’ve seen other people running the engine and slipping the clutch to move bikes around, either walking next to the bike or astride it. Have you tried that tactic?
I hope your beemer was not too scuffed up. Yeah it does seem a bigger issue when your pride is hurt.
You need a turntable.
Thanks for the tip.
What size is the SW Motech case?
They are 45L - five years later still have them and love them. I especially like the top loading which makes them so easy to use. Perhaps I'll do a follow-up.
Thanks for replying 👍 Would you be able to post pictures with them loaded onto the bike? I’m stuck on whether to order the 37L or 45L or maybe different sizes on each side 🤷♂️
and I thought my Honda ST1300 was heavy.
Both bikes hide it well when on the move.
It's much better with the borla s-type Cat-back on it. It isn't too loud, but it also gives you enough sound to know where to shift. And it makes the experience 10x more enjoyable than it already is.
Thanks for the tip.
No problem riding it's trying to handle a slow speed
I agree with that. My bike has the Helibars fitted which are hight and wider. That gives a little more leverage. I do find the bike well balanced at slow speeds.
dopped my seat by 30 mm helped a lot, I'm 5.7 inside leg 30. just have to be careful of the sidestand
The bike came with a comfort seat with lots of padding. I now have the Honda low seat option which I bought on an auction site. It is a choice of comfort or practicality when. I go out for a ride.
