nice video. isn't there a timing mark for the crank as well? how do you know if the timing belt jumped a tooth? i didnt see you check the crank mark.
How to adjust 1970s Jiffy auger model 30 or whatever model because it’s from my work and now it’s stubborn or trolling

Great video, very well set out. As much as genuine gasket/rebuild kits are 3-4 times the cost of generic kits, they are so much less likely to give you issues. I've had problems with Amazon or eBay gasket kits, leaks and even incorrect cuts, the last being the engine pulse hole that drives the fuel pump diaphragm on the side of the carb was covered in the generic kit, so had to cut out a hole in the engine to carb gasket. It shouldn't matter, but for whatever reason, genuine is the only way to go. For seats and needles, bowl etc generic is fine in my experience, but as nobody wants to be endlessly pulling their engine to try and start it, or to have it die as the fuel pump diaphragm is leaking, do yourself the favour and spend the bucks on a genuine kit. I look after a few old 25 twin 2-stroke Mercs at our local club, and would rather spend my own money on motors that aren't even mine and buy a genuine kit so I'm not having to mess with the carbs all the time. Boats sit around and have fuel issues enough without playing roulette with cheapo gaskets as well, but to each their own!
Should have just did it the right way what evvvv
Buy a K-drill ? lol. I have a propane auger I’ve been using for years. This was just to satisfy curiosity.
Shame on u allways check the reedcage that far in carb job another halfass video sorry but it's true
How was the OB behaving that lead you to start doing this? Thank you.
How did you find/see the leak in the Primer? Thank you. Working on a 1995 8HP Mariner.
While it will work both ways , I can suggest when reinstaling the upper primer cover that putting the "vent" or weep hole on the primer cover facing out instead of in , so you can visualy see when the carb is mounted on the engine that if your primer diaphram ever develops a leak again, if it does it will spray out the weep port out to the side making it easy to see where the fault is . that orientation is the way it was orignaly instaled .
Hi from Sweden. :) I have a 15hp Yamaha from 1978 (15AK), everything looks the same on it as on yours in the video. Except: Mine has 2(!) float-chambers (an x-tra to the right if U look att the carb front on and in situe), dual gas leads and a "dual" fuel-pump. Why? And can i remove it, fit a single-line fuel-pump and do the gas leads as it is on yours without modifications? //T
great video! i have a 13 foot boler that i bought used and used for 2 seasons alread. would you think i might need to change the bearings? and how do i determine the size of it? thanks
Hello, Are you interested in testing our products? We would like to invite you to test the A-Arm Bushing Kit for your 2023 Polaris ranger 570 crew
I picked up a kit on Amazon to rebuild mine for $20, and the carb main mount gasket is wrong so for another 12 bucks I got a sheet of blue siliconized gasket material at Oreillys, used an xacto blade and a scissors and a ball point pen to make a new gasket for one that didn't exist. Seriously, the motor came without one and one of the nuts was loose as a goose.
Nice video, thanks! I'm no engine guy, but having owned this exact engine for many years I've done a bit of basic maintenance on it (assisted by youtube). I may have a go at changing the timing belt this fall, so this video is going in the save folder. The little "half moon key", what is the purpose of that? And did you use the "piston stop tool" before loosening the fly wheel nut with the impact driver?
Have the same carb on my Mariner from 1988, how do you adjust the idle on that carb ?
depends on the version, but may be a turn the primer knob type? If not, then it's the throttle closed grub screw.
Planning any follow up videos on the Ranger?
does motor run better now?
Any suggestions for a seized seat? I cannot get that to budge and have slipped the screw driver a couple times already. Worried about stripping it
Based of what your saying in the video, the air mixture screw was 1.5 turns out from bottom position?
Yes. Run the screw in till it stops and back it out 1.5 turns
Thanks for the video. I have a 1986 6hp Evinrude. It has recently been sputtering and now doesn’t accelerate properly. Dies at low idle speed and doesn’t go very fast at full throttle but will sometimes blow white smoke and kick up for just a moment. Would this be the a dirty carb or something else? I just replaced both spark plugs and that helped the sputtering but still doesn’t want to rev up high when it’s in gear.
600 for a starter 😮 I replaced mine with an Amazon one and so far, after 4 years it's still going strong
Этот мотор yamaha 15a , а вы написали yamaha 15 HP?? Может быть у вас есть руководство к двигателю yamaha 15А, Я имею в виду все размеры двигателя частей подшипников, поршней, колец, и так далее. Заранее благодарю!!
How did you torque the flywheel nut without it turning?
You can use a piston stop tool. It threads into the spark plug hole. Do a search and there should be a good explanation.
Have a 1980s 8hp evinrude supposedly wasnt ran much same carb put new plugs and hooked fuel to it ran awesome idled fine even in gear took it out 2 times ran great went to leave couldn't keep running when I throttled it had alot of fuel in the air box any idea appreciate it
Sounds like the float is stuck. Needle and seat need a clean. You can confirm this by removing the fuel line while running and if it calms down and runs good after a couple minutes plug the fuel line back in and see if you start getting the excess fuel problem again. Do this a couple times. To confirm. Hopefully that helps. Good luck
Probably could have cleaned the carb just to rule that out of the equation on the hard start
I’m going to do my first one. You make it looks so easy. Thank you for this video. Your trailer is so shiny, any special way to get it this way?
Thanks. It really easy once you’ve done it a couple times. As for the polish I’m not sure. This is my ex wife’s trailer. Good luck with it.
What’s your opinion on aftermarket gasket rebuild kits?
Not great. Very convenient to get them next day to your door but definitely not the quality of OEM.
So i bought a mariner 15hp from that time period....684c prefix code....its obviously a yamaha but can not seem to find a service manual.....whats got me caught up is the ignition system...guy i bought it from got a new cdi but didnt install....so schematics would be great
I’m thinking yours might be newer than that. 1980 or newer. If it’s CDI ignition then it would be. Try looking for newer drawings or replacing one wire at a time when you swap it out. Run a video while you do it. That’s what I do lol. Hope it works out.
@thesmallengineguy6924 that's the issue...the kid pulled it all out so I have nothing to go off of.....im not certain it's cdi....it has 2 coils...and then a trigger or something for timing underneath the flywheel.....on off switch was removed....so really need schematics....I believe your right on the yr....what I've gathered is its a 1981 mariner model....but a clone of the 78 yamaha 15b......be so simple to get going if I could just find a manual or something along those lines....
Buenos días amigo el flotador de mi motor Mercury 25 dos tiempos se daño como puedo conseguir un flotador nuevo es igual al que sale en este video
Do you have a source for the bladder gasket?
Amazon is probably your best bet for carb parts.
hi man thanks for that video. I am trying to find the parts to rebuild the reed box any advice were to find them. thank you
Hell yeah nice job 👍
Thanks 👍
I just bought the same but in Camo color . What I noticed today is mine has no grab handle for passenger . Just got it 8 days ago and wife and I took it out for a rough ride and she's the one that pointed it out . Were they an option ? Thanks
I’m thinking about buying one but not sure yet just like to know all about the machine first
Thanks for sharing. I have the 25cv but is very similar.
No problem 👍thanks for watching
is there storage under the seats? I cant find a good walk through video that goes through everything on the northstar 570, only the ultimate. Do you know of a really detailed video? I want to see every compartment. :)
Thank you greatly. Best carb clean video I've found and I've searched high and low. 👍Also the float bowl in my 88 Evinrude has a primer hose attached to the bottom going into the prime lever. Do you have any suggestions on where I can find that particular carb repair video.
whats the piece called that you pull out to kill the engine?
That's the safety key. A lot of today's low end snowblowers don't have a throttle lever that will stop the engine. I have an older version of this snowblower The Tecumseh 5 horse Flathead on it that does allow you to just turn the throttle down to the sto position without needing to take the safety key out.
recently was given a 1995 mercury outboard 8hp @10:58 the rod you are holding with right hand was just sitting inside it and I can not find a diagram as to show where it connects to under the pull start. Any help would be much appreciated. lol
you figure it out?
@@chadschafer3890 lol kind of. It's the least of the problems as I can't even get it to spark. I put the project on the back burner as I had two other outboards to work on.
Damn I want this …. Love my 500 ranger … but this is a beaut
Thanks for the video. I'm a mechanic but it's always good to educate yourself in case of something surprising showing up.hi from a fishing finn 🇫🇮.
Thank you so much for this video. New to outboards and I just got my first 8hp 2 stroke Evinrude. This breakdown was very detailed.
No problem. Great motors but sadly the parts are getting harder and harder to find. Good luck and thanks for watching
How often should you do this ?
You didn’t need a jack stand where you had to do a standard on the bucket
Amigo en q país puedo conseguir repuestos para ese tipo de motor xq tengo uno y aquí no consigo respuestos
I cannot seem to find any spare parts for this motor as well.
Very nice! I have a couple of Yamaha 48 hp enduro 2003 in an 18 ft c-hawk. Very reliable motors, I take care of them and hope they last as long as yours! Many regards

This is a very helpful video thanks. Have you removed the scamp body from the frame to clean the rust? I don’t know where the connections are.
Gday mate i have a 2021 40 hp and i think they have been the same configeration since about 2013 ,it is one thing that i did notice was no tensioner on the cam belt i suppose they dont need them being only a 40hp . How much would you have paid to do that in a shop , probably a lot this is why i have always done my own servicing mine is still under a warranty but it aint going back to have me slugged x hundred dollars for some one to change the oil at 20 hrs these are pretty simple motors and you tube is your friend ,plenty of forums to get advice . Basic maintenance oil water pump impellor ect and your engine will run forever yamahas didnt get there reputation from building crap motors great video for people to learn how to do the job themselves put more up as there aint to many on 40hp four strokes take care .
