You're right, the Avata 2 is great and they've definitely made the neo a bit more beginner friendly. I think Neo is for dipping your toes in to test the water before going all in on a set up like avata 2.

I really think DJI is pulling ahead. They offer the best color and microphone compatibility with their own mics which are great. I think their engineers are doing the best job across the board. If I had to pick between DJI action 5pro, Ace pro ii, or iPhone 16 pro I would go for DJI action 5 pro. iPhone 16 pro in 2nd place and Ace Pro ii in 3rd. All 3 are full capable options.

We diffuse the light when we want soft light. For this effect in this video we want hard light. Nova is a panel style light. You can use it to light larger areas. But you wouldn’t be able to achieve what we are doing in this video with Nova. If you’re asking for a comparison between 300c diffused and Nova diffused I wouldn’t know because I’ve never used the nova.

@codylander I know nova won't do hard. Yes I'm asking for a comparison to know if I can substitute with an amaran 300c and a softbox ot 2x and some diffuser rag, or frame.

If you compare the photometrics of Amaran 300c vs Nova 300c we see big differences. Again because these are two very different lights and a bit of an odd comparison. Amaran 300c with hyper reflector on at 5,600k at 1 meter they say(aputures website) it is outputting 26,580 lux. Nova at its brightest 5,600k 1 meter is outputting 9,000lux. I haven’t tested this myself because I don’t have a Nova. But we use the 300c like work horses. Soft boxes, reflectors, and that 2x fresnel. We also use the 600d and 600c pro a lot. Just depends on the job. What are your main uses for the light?

@@codylander I know the photometrics. If you account for 1 to 1.5 stop loss via diffusion then amaran 300c is similar to the nova. I could use it on anything from flooding to key to rims - I don't have any specific use for it. Depends on what I'm lighting.

Well back to your original question then. No, I haven’t ever tried to diffuse the 300c with the 2x fresnel. Seems like you know a lot about lighting so I’m not sure how else I can help you. But appreciate the comments 🤙🏼

There probably are. I haven’t explored too many of them.

I just tested this in my home. For close up smaller objects in an almost completely dark room you can get a decent shot using the flash(led light). Trying to shoot a larger subject like a person in a completely dark room not so great. Close up face okay, half body not really, full body no. The light is just a little led. It’s not a real flash like you’d see on a real camera. It’s a toy. With all of this said. I still think it’s great. It works. It’s like $40usd!

Great question! I think the rods and soft box materials are very durable. The travel bag it comes with has started to show some wear and tear. I think it’s the best option for travel.

The travel bag is not a problem, I will a get a case for my lights to use while I am traveling by plane and light dome se was the best for it, the others would require so much space, I was just worried about the time that it takes to set up because I plan to make a lot of interviews in different places. Of course! My goal is to help you out! You will get quick at setting up and tearing down. If I was in a rush I’d guess I could get 1 light dome se put together in maybe 1-2 minutes. Not a problem at all.

On the phone you’ll be using to connect to the goggles just download the DJI fly app. Once you connect to the goggles the app should automatically recognize it and then I believe you just hit “go fly” and it starts displaying the live view from the goggles.

I’m intentionally crashing the Neo to show you just how easy it is to crash-and how tough it is when it happens. I’m fortunate to have a sponsorship with DJI, so I wanted to push the limits and try things most ‘reviewers’ wouldn’t do.

I’m actually just finishing another video on the sharpness settings. The Neo’s camera isn’t great. It’s a $200usd drone. We can’t expect that much from it. However from my tests I noticed these things. 1.) no control of sharpness, noise reduction, or any way to control exposure while connected only to your smartphone. 2.) when connected to any of the “pro remotes”(rc-n3, rc2, motion controller+goggles) you gain access to sharpness, noise reduction, and exposure controls. 3.) ND filters seem to work well but can be a hassle because lighting scenarios often change quick and you might need to switch NDs. 4.) 4k 30 vs 1080 60. Debatable but I think the added frames make the video look smoother and actually translates to a better looking video. I still need to test this one a bit more. I wish they gave us a 2.7k option… I think the best thing to do to improve Neos quality is actually just shoot in ideal lighting conditions. Brighter the better. Hopefully in a coming update they will fix the mobile app so we can control to exposure.

Glad it was helpful! You know what’s funny is I haven’t filmed anything on our xs20 for awhile. Just yesterday I took it out on a hike for a drone video and loved it. So small and powerful. I need to shoot with it a little more to dial in the auto focus and ibis settings. But beautiful images. Flog2 👌🏼

That would be great. But after owning and using the Panasonic Gh5 any camera has amazing autofocus to me lol. I really think the XS20 auto focus is great. Just keep an eye on it more than you would with a Sony. To give a little more confidence I own and use the Sony a7siii as my main camera. But for my adventure vlogs and videos I'm starting to reach for the XS20 because is so small. Also fuji colors... Amazing!

Absolutely right! Neo is a a great option at a great price. Just demonstrating for people how easy it is to crash and how tough it is.

Glad it was able to give you some confidence in your purchase! I'll be first to admit the camera isn't the best quality and the tracking is not the smoothest. But for the price it's tough to complain. I'd bet DJI is already working on Neo 2 or a similar drone. Im excited to see what they come out with over the following months/years. I really want a drone that can keep up with me while skiing.

That was a really nice update. Now if they would give us more options to control the camera while using the mobile app. White Balance and exposure control.

As for the price, it’s actually a great value when you consider the quality of these products compared to other options on the market. Plus, you can add DJI insurance for a small fee, which allows you to get replacements at a significant discount if you crash or lose the drone.

@@codylander Nope. This is my 1st drone and I went with the fly more combo. Seeing that Im in Korea, it comes with the RC-N3 remote and the battery pack. Love it but sometimes will not land on my hand and then it keeps rising so i just grab it and flip it over like a turtle like you do. Any issues with you?

Good choice! While the tracking, auto features, and flying with a smartphone are fun, you would quickly outgrow them. Using the remote unlocks an entirely new level of control and performance. Plus, with the remote, you can adjust video settings like sharpness and noise reduction(sharpness -2, noise reduction -1 or -2), which makes a dramatic difference in video quality.

When using the motion controller, you can activate head tracking to control the camera angle dynamically. This allows you to tilt the camera up or down(if you look up or down) and adjust the horizontal direction of the drone (left or right) simply by moving your head. If flown with one of the full manual fpv controllers you can adjust the camera angle to your preference. Additionally, you can adjust the camera angle using a smartphone or other remote controllers.

Thanks! It’s true-everywhere seems to have its own rules and regulations. What I appreciate about sub-250g drones is how much more lenient the laws are compared to drones over 250g. They’re definitely fun to use, though I have to admit, the goggles can feel a bit bulky compared to just flying my Mini 3 Pro.

@@codylander sadly in Ireland they have even restricted sub 250g drones by saying you need a licence for drones 250g or over OR if it has a camera for recording (which pretty much covers ALL drones). They make sure they get their money ! 😔

Absolutely true! We love using our fresnels as well. Recently, we picked up some 600Ds for our larger projects, and the fresnels are massive-but the quality of light is absolutely stunning!

Thanks! Absolutely, you can! The start/stop recording button will be covered by the palm of your left hand, but you can also easily reach it with your right thumb or index finger to start and stop recordings. I’ve been using two hands to fly recently. It seems like I can relax the main hand a little bit as the extra hand supports it. So much fun! 🤩

Thanks! According to my girlfriend-and now Alexandra-both of them are hooked after just one flight! Flying feels like playing a real-life VR video game. 🎮 I think the Motion Controller combined with the Goggles N3 makes a huge difference. My girlfriend had previously tried flying with a standard drone remote and wasn’t impressed at all. But there’s something about being fully immersed in the drone’s perspective through those goggles-it really gives you that bird’s-eye view experience!

You shouldn’t have any issues. Just check the areas you’re going to on the DJI fly app. Some areas require unlocking(ex. downtown xinyi). But a lot of beautiful terrain to fly with no restrictions. 👍🏼 weather can be questionable around this time of year. Let me know if you have more questions. I have some recommendations if you’d like.

Good observation! The DJI Neo can carry around 50g and still fly, but heavier action cameras like GoPros are too much for it. I’m using the Insta360 GO 3s, which weighs about 39g, plus a small mount setup that brings it close to 50g. While the Neo can technically carry more, what really matters is how well it handles the extra weight in flight. From my experience, even light wind makes the Neo wobbly, so this setup works best in calm conditions-think sunrise, sunset, or true no-wind moments. That said, I’ve found it’s better to use ND/PL filters (like those from Freewell) to control exposure directly on the Neo’s camera. The added weight of the GO 3s doesn’t justify the slight improvement in video quality, especially since it drastically reduces flight time by draining the battery much faster. On top of that, it’s hard to get the right angle when the drone is in motion due to its speed and tilt. Keep it light for the best results!

Agreed-it’s a bit tight when traveling with a partner. I don’t have kids, but it seems like a good option for families with 1 or maybe 2 little ones. I haven’t flown their business class, but as I mentioned in the video, I like to curl my legs when I sleep. Business class beds are typically long and narrow, so for me, this setup might actually work better for sleeping. Of course, the door and service in business would be an upgrade.
