The OUTRAGEOUS Life of Diana Mitford | #documentary #history #historychannel #documentary
Diana Mosley (née Mitford) was a woman who seemed to have it all-privilege, beauty, wealth, and status. Born into the famous Mitford family, she was one of the six aristocratic sisters whose lives and scandals have fascinated history lovers for decades. Diana was admired for her striking looks, charm, and intelligence, and she appeared destined for a life of luxury and influence. However, her story took a shocking and controversial turn when she abandoned it all for love-and for fascism.
In this in-depth video essay, we explore the extraordinary and scandalous life of Diana Mosley, from her gilded childhood among Britain’s elite to her infamous devotion to Sir Oswald Mosley, leader of the British Union of Fascists. She walked away from a seemingly perfect marriage to Bryan Guinness, heir to the brewing fortune, to be with Mosley-a decision that would cost her everything. Through their alliance, Diana became a personal friend of Adolf Hitler, attended Nazi rallies, and was even married in secret in Joseph Goebbels' home, with Hitler himself as a guest.
When World War II broke out, Diana and Mosley’s unwavering fascist beliefs led to their downfall.
Was Diana driven purely by love, or was her ideology just as deeply ingrained as Mosley’s? Was she a victim of her own convictions, or an unapologetic supporter of a doomed and dangerous cause?

So beautiful? With wonky eyes? Probably a magnetic personality but not quite beautiful
A horrible, self-absorbed shark. Moseley didn't give a sh*t about her and yet she followed him around like a lost wet dog. Pathetic.
She struck by her beliefs and her man, right or wrong. I wouldn't follow her beliefs but it's hard for me not to have some kind of administration for her.
*admiration
The best looking male in the BRF probably ever.
Wow - very enjoyable and interesting. I always thought DMM’s life reflected the appeal of fascism among Britain’s upper classes (before it showed its true face.) I always felt bad about Unity. Brava for your presentation.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! And Diana’s life was like the polished veneer of fascism-elegant and enticing, yet masking something deeply sinister. It’s eerie how people like Diana were remembered as charming and thoughtful by those who knew them, yet carried so much hate inside. Evil doesn’t always announce itself-it can be wrapped in grace and good manners. While making the video, I couldn’t shake the feeling that she seemed utterly soulless... Thanks for your thoughtful comment!
I wonder if some of the attraction was that he played hard to get. Or in his case he wasn’t really playing. Men came easily to her so he was someone she had to work to keep.
Absolutely! I think you’re right-men always came easily to her, but Oswald made her chase him. Ironically, he treated her the way she treated her first husband, and in the process, he exposed how utterly pathetic she really was. Great insight!
You have done an exceptional job of presenting Barbara Payne with dignity, class, and compassion, even while addressing some harsh realities. Well done! 👏 Surprisingly who comes to mind? Amber Heard?… it's hard to ignore the stark contrasts. Heard was infamous for creating chaos and maintaining a façade of duplicity. While I’m not suggesting that Payne shares these traits, she does seem to exhibit tendencies of self-sabotage and an attraction to troubled relationships. Encouraging an outright boxing match between Tone and Reed? Remaining on the sidelines as a spectator? Witnessing Tone’s near-fatal beating? Who behaves this way unless they consciously or unconsciously allowed it to unfold? Hollywood is notorious for its meteoric rises and subsequent exploitation-artists are often used, abused, and ultimately discarded when the box office receipts dwindle. Goodbye, don't call us; we'll call you! God bless you, Barbara Payne! May your father face the consequences of his emotional void, just as he deserves. Ugh!
Where were you when I was homeschooling my children 19 years ago? You are a sensational story teller.
Thank you so much! That means a lot 🤗❤️
Looking forward to this. How I despise this woman. She was given every natural gift there was, and this is what she did with it. She defended her views, and his, until she died. At least Unity had the decency not to procreate. I won't finish that thought, but will let the implication linger.
Thank you for not flinching away from the worst of what she has done. I appreciate the detail: your work is always exquisite.
I agree with everything you said Especially about Unity! It sounds harsh but who knows what kind of damage she would have done to her potential children... And thank you so much! This was one of my hardest videos to get through because i really HATED Diana 🤦♀️. I was cursing her all throughout the editing process!
@@StoriesThroughTime I agree 💯! Check out her characterization on "Peaky Blinders." This woman was reprehensible.
I would love to see a video about Frances Farmer!
Edit: I want to make it absolutely clear that I unequivocally condemn fascist ideology and do not, in any way, sympathize with the views expressed by certain figures featured in this video. This presentation is intended solely as an exploration of Diana Mosley’s life within the context of a family that has fascinated many for decades. It does not endorse or excuse the hateful rhetoric supported by her or other individuals in her story. I also recognize that we are living in particularly sensitive times, with certain political leaders echoing rhetoric disturbingly similar to that of the past. My hope is that this video provides historical insight rather than any semblance of support for such ideologies. Thank you for watching and engaging thoughtfully. ❤ ✨ Diana Mosley remains one of the most controversial figures of the 20th century-a woman born into privilege who risked it all for love and ideology. Was she simply blinded by passion, or was she fully committed to the fascist cause? Let me know your thoughts in the comments! ✨
First!
🤗 ❤️
This show was intriguing, interesting, and fascinating! Long live Marlene!!❤
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
Yes, his death was mysterious and complicated. The rumours about where he was actually going and why, were repressed. Then the secret inquiry papers went “missing”. There are accusations that he was secretly going to Sweden to talk with the Germans over a peace deal and that he was betraying the war effort and had to be “dealt with”. There is much research over this and Churchill’s involvement. Dark times indeed.
Pamela may not be the typical Vixen, like Slim & Babe, but she does have a unique attraction. I can see how she was able to climb the social ladder.
So well done. Thank you. 🙂
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed it 🤗 ❤️
This was sad😢
I know! It was very depressing especially during the editing 😢
staggeringly beautiful and heartbreaking. as for kd his great acting fame killed by his gigantic ego. Natalie surrounded by charming mostly bi sexual dogs.

Maby bekos off oll the traimas. Barbara was a gifted talented moeviestar❤
A very moving and compassionate documentary. I didn't know about her, but glad I do now. A beautiful and intelligent woman, caught up in the chaos of 1950's Hollywood. I feel very sad that she was unable to overcome her personal demons, she must have been in so much pain. I wish her peace and love. ❤
Thank you so much for your compassion and kind words! 🤗 ❤️
She was not awarded looks you know they were a gift ! She didn't earn them . She was alcoholic and sverything thats self destructively attached to that , addicts live in chaos .they create it . She would have had to become soberto realise how self destructive she was.
😮 This was a masterpiece in storytell me thank you so much.😮 Sincerely
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate your kind words. 🙏
EDIT: wrong person I’m thinking of-same name! Didn’t know who she was! She is the author of one of my favorite books
