Great video, and I appreciate the thorough review of Dietrich's professional work. If anyone is interested in seeing behind Marlene's curtain of myth, read her daughter's book. It is an amazing look at her mother's actuated genius and stunted potential mostly due to substance abuse. It is a look behind the scenes of the emotional wreckage caused by broken romances that Marlene left in her wake.

@@StoriesThroughTime I think you'll find that your video was quite accurate to the details Maria provides in her book, and you may enjoy learning more about Marlene's complicated relationship with her husband (and his long term mistress, Tami). I don't often see a YT video (or any video) that digs beneath the surface of image and movies, so thank you for this video!

I thought Madonna was modeled after Marilyn Monroe, but she is modeled after Marlene Dietrich.

What always remains with me about her,was her humour !The studio always tried to make her into a Greta Garbo mkII ,but, unlike Garbo, Marlene could always find humour in a situation or herself. Can you imagine Greta in that fabulous Destry Rides Again fight ??I can't,as a person I don't believe she had much of a sense of humour at all, whereas Marlene did.
She was wonderful in standing up to the Nazis, and in her entertaining the Allied troops. Her endorsement of Jewish writers, directors, musicians, producers and actors at the time she did,was so brave and so telling of the deeply moral and compassionate woman underneath the Hollywood star.
Unfortunately, for me,a great many of her beautiful photos/films are ruined,as when wearing that white fox fur coat, all I can think of are the lives taken in such an inhumane way,the amount of lives taken to produce it,the inhumane way they had to live until their horrific endings, and the fact that the foxes treatment is no better nowadays.Marlene was definitely a humanitarian to humans, but to other species not so much.
A great documentary. The one thing I learnt about Marlene that I didn't know before watching it,was the fact that she played the singing saw !👍🏼🇬🇧❤️❤️❤️
