Using Mark Making for Hand Stitching
มุมมอง 1.2K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video, I share with you my slow stitch technique using mark making as a prompt. I make the marks with various tools and acrylic paints. These marks are then used as a guide and I respond to the marks made. I've used both Anchor and DMC embroidery threads in two strands. Light Grey DMC168, Orange Anchor 537; unfortunately I don't have the number for the blue. Thanks so much for watching!...

C'est très beau ❤❤
Thank you very much! 🥰
What do you paint fabric with?
Hi! These fabrics were painted with acrylic paints, but I have also used watercolours. Although it's best not to use them on anything that may be laundered. Some people say that heat setting with an iron helps with that, but I'm not sure I'd want to try it on something precious! I know there are paints specifically for fabric painting out there, but I haven't used them. Hope this helps! 🥰
Do you use them as art pieces or do they have practical use? I would try that technic on scrap fabric in the future!!❤
Hello, thanks so much for watching, and for your question. So far, I haven't done anything with these pieces since I created them! 😆I was thinking about turning them into 3D vessels at some stage, but for now they sit in a box, until I figure out what I want to do with them! I really enjoyed working on them though ☺
What do you do with these pieces? I love them and might put them in my journal or even frame them but not sure if I'm missing any other ways to use them?
Both of your ideas are great! I tend to have a lot sitting in a pile, ready and waiting for them to be used in some way! 😆Whether that actually happens is another matter. To be honest, I just love creating them, and await for them to call to me and let me know what I do with them next, whenever that may be. I have turned some into fabric books. It's good to keep a record to look back on, and it can also act as inspiration for future projects. I have also turned some into needle books too. Have fun, however you want to use yours, and let me know if you come up with anymore ideas! I'd love to hear them. Thanks for watching! 🥰
Do you have any tutorials on this?
Hello, thanks for your question. I don't tend to do step by step tutorials, but I like to share my process and hopefully inspire others. I'm happy for anyone to take ideas from what they see in my videos and incorporate them into their own work if they so wish; so by all means feel free to try out any of the ideas shared. Other than that I have a Ko-fi page where I share a whole lot more about creating. More ideas and projects are accessible to members for a £5 monthly fee. Membership is free and easy to leave at anytime after the first payment, should you find it's not for you. There is a whole back catalogue of projects available to access. For more information see the link in my TH-cam profile or visit my website. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching! 🥰
Do you have other videos about this cottage?? Would love too see
Sadly, no I don't, but thank you so much for watching 🥰
I have used dryer sheets that I colored on gel plate and did a small landscape
That sounds great! How creative! It's amazing what can be recycled and used for our creative pursuits, isn't it?!☺

Aww, thank you! The blue with the white lace do compliment each other beautifully, I feel, much like a blue sky with fluffy white clouds! ☁☁☁☺ 🥰

This is lovely Mandy
Aww, thank you 🥰 I really enjoyed making it.
Where is this used ?
It is used in a craft room for storing sewing needles for sewing projects. This one is now sold ☺
Where do you use this?
It was created as a small quilt to hang on a wall as a piece of art ☺
Is this felt or any fabric ? Please tell me. Thanks
I was using felt here, but it works the same on any fabric ☺
@@OhSewMindful thank you 👍. Where do you use this? Look Awesome 😍
@@PrimaryMathsWithMamta Thank you. I used to sell these as kits. Once people had completed them they could put them in a picture frame ☺

do you by chance stamp and sell the snowdrop print onto fabric pieces?

This is amazing, do you water down the acrylics or just use as is? Also love the soothing music it calms my anxiety when watching ❤ Ann 🏴
Thank you so much Ann. 🥰 I'm so glad you found the music calming. I didn't add any water on this occasion, but I sometimes do in other projects, it just depends what I'm doing at the time, and what consistency I want. ☺
Such unique and interesting marks! Some look like feathers or wings or even birds flying. And I love how the stitching has a 3D effect. I also like the stitches in a column, they look like a kind of path. This is really going beautifully 💛❤️🩷💙🩶🤍💜💚🧡🤎🩵♥️🩶
Thanks so much Alexandra! 🥰I love how you can see so many things within the marks 🥰
Lovely stitching, lovely video, and I really enjoyed the music 😊.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! 🥰
Wonderful idea and it is really beautiful with the stitching that you have done so far. Please continue to show us your progress as you go along !!!
Thank you! 🥰
Beautiful card..... thank you for sharing !! When you do your lino printing, what kind of paint are you using: watercolor? acrylic? acrylic ink? TIA
Hello Susan! Thank you for watching. I used acrylic paint in this instance, but I've also used water based printing inks before. It's been a while since I did any lino printing and would like to get back to exploring it again, one day! ☺
@@OhSewMindful Did you prefer acrylic paint (heavy body or fluid) or water based printing inks? And did you use a fabric medium with the acrylic paints? I was doing some research about painting on fabric and came across Golden's GAC 900 which is their fabric medium. Apparently, it makes the paint adhere to the fabric better. However, with that said, since I almost always make wall hangings with my slow stitch projects, I am not sure the fabric medium is necessary. I would really appreciate if you could make a short video about your process with lino printing on fabric. Just the basics. What you use for fabric. What you use for paint or ink and the basic process. I absolutely love your leaf lino printed fabric in your neutral and golden yellow wall hanging that you did a 2-part video on a while ago. That is the kind of lino printing that I'm interested in doing, but need some basic instructions. Please consider a video on that? Pretty please? 🙂
@@SusanMJB45 No preference really on either. I just went for the colour I wanted, and that happened to be one of the basic craft acrylic paints. I didn't use a fabric medium, and never have. I usually just press the fabric, once dry, to set it. The items I create aren't intended to be washed anyway. I have seen others using Golden's fabric medium. As far as a video on my lino printing process, I will see what I can do. I will add it to my never ending list! 😆
Beautiful painted fabric. They looked like crashing ocean waves on rocks. Can't wait to see what you do with them.
Oooh, I love that description, thank you 🥰
Thank you very much, dear Mandy, for this video. I'm just discovering embroidery in general and slow stitching in particular. I like how you explain things and how we can put all our feelings and what moves us during the day into the 5 minute embroidery timeout. It is a wonderful and mindful way to be creative. Thank you for your work.🙏
Aww, you're very welcome. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, taking just 5 minutes for ourselves; to slow down and stitch, can make a world of difference to our day. Thank you so much for watching, and for your lovely comment 🥰
Love your creative piece, but please no background music as it is irritating
Thank you for your feedback 🙂
Beautiful piece! I am also trying to make a wall hanging but I'm finding the fibres from the wadding are coming up to the front of my quilt when I stitch. I've read online it's called bearding and they say turn the batting over or change needles. Tried both but nothing works. I'm in UK and have problems with Sew Easy brand of quilt batting so not cheap! What batting/wadding do you use? I'm at my wits end! Thank you x
Hello Alison, thank you. I use something called "bump". If you're in the UK and have a Boyes store near to where you live, they sell it there. That's where I get mine, but I'm not sure where else you could get it, I'm afraid. I have found that the odd fibre still comes through, but personally, I haven't found it to be too much of a problem. I do hope that helps! Let me know how you get on ☺
@@OhSewMindful I'm in Devon uk and no Boyes near us but as you were kind enough to tell me the name of the wadding I can start to find some! It's very kind of you to help me! Thank you so much!
@@alisonbunce159 You're very welcome. Although I'd say that it's more of a woven interlining more than a wadding as it's a lot thinner, but I like it and it gives me the quilted look I need. I've also had a look online and it's available there if you'd like to take a look for more info☺
@@OhSewMindfulI have some interlining now but would be very grateful for a link to the interlining you recommend please. 👃
@@AlisonBunce Hi Alison, the only one I use is from Boyes; so I can only recommend that one. I have however managed to find what looks to me to be the same kind, online; here is the link: www.williamgee.co.uk/shop/bump-curtain-interfacing/?cgkit_search_word=bump However, I have never used this company myself, so I am not able to recommend them (just a little disclaimer there ☺). Take a look and let me know what you think.
