Test out the new clutch burn off that back tire problem solved ! Soda blast the steel plates and the pressure plate for maximum grip 👍
A lot of good points there Thank you for the video
@MoeLarrycurly1 Thank you for watching. ✌️
If it was me and it is that cheap for a clutch I would put all new in it great job
@@richardschaffling9882 That's exactly what we were thinking!! Thanks for the comment.
I knew you were doing something wrong when i saw Jones working on it.
@@toddward9638 Lol, I'll let you bust his...............
@SilverNutsGarage-di5ls Look at the back of Jones head in the Video. Looks like a hornet nest. That's a head only a Momma could love.
Thanks for the video. I just bought a 2010 HD trike and when I took it to the dealer for service they told me the rear cylinder has been hot (discolored near the spark plug) and there is scoring. They said I needed a new motor. Dang! I am wondering if I can just replace the piston and cylinder. Gettin’ too old to be doing a lot of wrenching anymore. I just shared your channel with a friend that has an old panhead.
@normshafer2243 Thanks for taking the time to comment. Have you checked the compression of the rear cylinder? Hopefully, they are wrong.......Good luck, I wish you lots of rear cylinder pressure. And thanks for passing along our channel. Ride safe.✌️✌️
Thanks man for the good information👍
@@richiemattingly7413 You're welcome. Thanks for the comment 👍
I don’t see any other way to do it stay warm and safe
@@richardschaffling9882 Will do.....back at you!!!
I have a tendency to think things too much. I put grease in somewhere and then I spray in some WD-40.
Along with the pen it looks like I have to find two rollers. To make mine work
@@MoeLarrycurly1 That's how many were on mine. Good luck 👍
@SilverNutsGarage-di5ls tx
That pin riding on the side it's probably just how you have the set screw on the cable in the plunger you'd have to like keep trying to I would assume pull the plunger out loosen the set screw reset it a little bit to the left or counterclockwise and then put it back together and see if it's more loosely floating in the trough. I'm sure when it was put together it was just like put together in not real precise
@@MoeLarrycurly1 I agree.....I was able to adjust it CCW to reduce the drag. Thanks
@SilverNutsGarage-di5ls 👍🏼👍🏼
Good video. I'll be doing the same thing to my 61' soon.
@matthewsteinauer158 Awesome, keep those old relics running. Thanks for the comment 👍 and ride safe.
Wonder if Jones comes with a service manual????
@@toddward9638 Not sure he can be fixed?
@SilverNutsGarage-di5ls got that right!
I'm in the process of putting my back to 1970 style throttle on my 1970. I'm missing the little pin and also the drum that goes around with the spiral hole and the screw in the end with screws into the end of the handlebar slowly I'm piecing it back together. I have the cable I have the plunger I have the set screw. I'll be watching this one thank you much for your great videos
@MoeLarrycurly1 Moe, thanks for the kind words. I'm learning as I go......and thanks to others, including yourself, for all the great input. I just watched your last video. Love your jig for setting up your float. ✌️✌️✊️

Nice bike but don’t ride it after a rain unless you want racing stripes on your back
@richardschaffling9882 Right you are..... and definitely don't bounce off of the seat onto the back wheel.🤪
@ very true
You will have to pry my rubber baby buggy fender bumpers on my '09 Ultra Classic from my cold dead fingers! I am a 76 year old geezer, like you, and ride with several even older geezers that crash into each other all the time. My rubber bumpers and fender guards are well worth the few beauty points I might lose in some eyes.
@studmuffin8859 Damn you're OLD and Wise too!!!!!!! LMAO 🤣 Great point. Thanks for your input and the good laugh. Ride safe and stay in the back of the pack!!!
@@SilverNutsGarage-di5ls Good advice about staying at the very back. A rule I violated a couple years ago when my 93 year old retired Marine Corps buddy(Korea and Vietnam)started swerving and flailing his arms around his head and off his bars. Thought he was having a stroke and stupidly got up beside him to see if I could help him. Wham, he did a 90 degree and side-swiped me and I sailed off into a ditch. Long story but I ended up with a broken leg. Not a stroke he was having, instead he was trying to find his sunglasses which he had left on a picnic table in the park in South East corner of San Diego County where we had our brown bag lunch! "No good deed goes unpunished", as someone said long ago. Looking forward to your naked fender video. And, damn, love your garage!
"Hydrolic"?
@josephs1438 Yes, in 2007, Harley changed up the spring tensioners and switched to hydrolic. Working off of oil pressure. Ride Safe.
Yeah I took a look at that 19 70 I bought on Saturday went back Sunday morning and got it running on one tank not too good but went to pick up a trailer with my friend's truck but his plug didn't work and it was some kind of weird plug so hurts rental didn't wouldn't let us rent the bike trailer cuz it needs to have lights on. So I saw a well screw it I'm going to get it running and ride it home
@MoeLarrycurly1 Congratulations!!!!! I can't wait to catch some videos on it. As far as you riding at home. Lol I wouldn't expect anything less......Ride safe and stay warm!!
My 70 also has a large pizza box like that but they painted it the same color of the bike when they repented the bike..
@MoeLarrycurly1 Love um or hate um.....Those old boxes are classics.
Man, that was OUTSTANDING! I really appreciate all the care and time you spent to write notes, explain it well, make sure the camer angles were right and I really liked how you walked us thru the manual using the right names of parts. This has got to be one of the best tutorials on setting this up at a speed I could grasp. Major thanks to you for doing it this way. I will watch many times and what would be cool would be a follow up where you show any tricks you've learned about it after you do it a few times. Well done again!!
@vk7408 Damn, I'm not sure I deserve a grand comment like this. Thank you very much for taking the time to share your thoughts. It's greatly appreciated. I sure have learned a lot from watching TH-cam videos. If I, in some way, can give back.............that's a great thing and what it's all about. Thanks again for your kind comment. ✌️
That fender looks so much different with the bumper removed
@richardschaffling9882 If you like the Street Glide look, it's a game changer!! Thanks for the comments, there always appreciated 👏
@@richardschaffling9882 That it does!!!!! Thanks for watching.
Another good video I see a lot of people using Kroil is it any better then something like WD 40
I personally think that Kroil has much better penetrating capabilities compared to WD40. For the price, WD40 is a great multipurpose product with great water displacement properties. As far as a rust buster........... I'll take Kroil, hands down, over anything, but you sure do pay the price............
Next time you have to remove the braking/clutch cable from lever you don't need to backup the adjusting screw. Just remove the cotter pin and washer and pull out the bushing. Then you can simply slide out the cable out of the lever and remove it via the slot in the perch.
@@Dr.Harley Good call. That will save me some time!!! Thanks for taking the time to reach out. We appreciate it.
Right and Left Brake/Clutch Lever have the same Parts#. One is always upside down
Thanks for the info. I did see that the part numbers are the same. I originally thought someone may have used a clutch bracket and flipped it over. Go figure........Thanks for sharing your knowledge. It's always appreciated!!!
My 70 flh does not have a front break switch only rear front is mechanical break only if I want a break light to come on I need to press rear break
Every time I've gotten a bike with that silver stuff wrapped on the cable yeah ..it's a slow tedious process of snapping it off. One thing I was wondering do you have some kind of brake switch for the front brake to light up the rear brake light. My 1970 does not and I don't know what it actually looks like I think in the manual there says there is one but mine didn't come with one. Does that one have some kind of switch that activates the brake light when you pull in the front brake lever. Great video Thank you
@MoeLarrycurly1 None of the earlier bikes that I've seen are equipped with front brake light switches. That's a great question, so I started to do a little research. From what I see, I don't think Harley started putting brake switches on the front brake lever until the late eighties, which to me seems hard to believe. Hopefully, some people out there can help us answer this question. Thanks for the comment, Moe. It's appreciated 👏
@SilverNutsGarage-di5ls Well my 1980 has that little teeny switch that you have to be careful when you insert it it's like 3/4 of an inch long and 3/8 in diameter and screws into the housing. Now that's the kind of that's the controls I think that came out in 72 they have the two small buttons on the right and a rocker switch for I think was on and off Killswitch. I tried them on the 1980 they had modern switches on controls on that but when I went back to stock the clutch lever did not play well with the spewth transmission which is designed like a 5-speed Evo transmission. So that's why I went and put the large bulkier style they had in the early '90s and late '80s and the clutch works real good now because the clutch cable goes into the housing on that style on the right hand side rather than work an arm on the left hand side. My manual seems to have or the parts book even some vague representation of a switch but it's so hard to see and it's quite confusing really. But thanks for your reply always enjoy your videos I don't have anything that old so that is very interesting to me..
@MoeLarrycurly1 My buddy Jones has a stock 70 flh that we pulled out of a shed. It doesn't have a front lever break switch either. Makes me curious if it was an add-on?
@SilverNutsGarage-di5ls Well if it gets a little warmer I might do a video out there but it's so cold I got a little heater in the garage it's only 50,000 BTU it works but when it gets down to zero or below or 10 above it takes so long to heat up but. I'll have to do a little video on what I've seen in my manual but I'm pretty sure it's at something about a switch I've watched that video of that bike he's got I love to have an original paint set mine has been repainted it's not a bad paint it's kind of a burgundy but original paint would be cool bike. Thing I like the best is it's got a kickstarter
@MoeLarrycurly1 Original paint is getting harder to find, and if you can find it, you pay the price.......Looking forward to your next video, stay warm!!!
I hear you loud and clear. .........somebody fill me in......
Snow Day???? Your Killing me Jones. I'm sure your off MLK Day to???

Great video. Love your garage. I'm working on my 61' in a cluttered 10x10 shed without a lift. Spend most of my time lying on the floor. Can be quite frustrating, but I'm getting good pointers to ease it. Have a good week. 👍
@matthewsteinauer158 Thanks for the comment. I hear you loud and clear.......I'm in my 60's and have a 1950's 12x20 foot unheated garage that was my work spot for the past 38 years. Heated it with everything from an electric heater to oil turbo and finally a propain infrared heater that sets on top of a 20# cylinder. I'm blessed to be able to use my Sons Garage to work on these bikes. Stay warm and have fun!!!!

Fantastic details on the “mystical mousetrap “thank you for this tutorial only wish I had one on my Harley .
@db3170 Brother.......thanks for taking the time to comment. Ride-um like you stole-um............
Red - N - Tacky, sounds like a gal I used to know.
You should adjust the primary chain first then rear chain ,then adjust your rod then mouse trap rod then the mouse trap then cable
Because you have to move the transmission to adjust the primary chain that changes your mouse trap rod
@michaelbushman7177 That's great to know, because that's exactly the order I followed. All except the rear chain, because I need to drop the wheels and do the breaks and wheel bearings. Must have got lucky!! Thanks for your knowledge. It's greatly appreciated 👏
Good video. I would have taken all the parts off the aluminum bracket. Cleaned each one and reassembled with grease where needed. You can duct tape the clutch cable end into a funnel and pour 90 weigh synthetic oil and it will lubricate that cable really good. Lubricated cables pull easy and last much longer. Use grease on clutch lever pivot and rubbing parts.
@joehovanec1985 Great call!!! Thanks for your input. It's appreciated. Happy Saterday!!!
Great explanation of a mouse trap and how to adjust it as for the bike I love the patina and the look of the old girl the only thing that bothers me is the dent in the front fender
@richardschaffling9882 I hear you....if you think the dent in the front fender is bad, wait until you see the left tank....Lol. Thanks for the kind words, my friend and ride safe.
Great vid ..../ ... Info ..thank you..
@@MoeLarrycurly1 Thanks for the kind words.
for got to add to my comment to take the front to rear lead off of the coil while doing this the reconnect after timing the bike
Good morning , my trick for timing my 64 is I use a dash light socket with a 6 volt bulb and with long enough leads to connect one lead to the battery and the other lead hooked to either the yellow (front) or black ( Rear) connection on the coil for either the front or rear set of points. the light will go out when the points just break with the timer at full advance. enjoy your videos and just wanted to show a different way to skin the cat so to speak.

Howdy from the Emerald City. I am also working on a 61'FLH that I picked up awhile back that has been severly neglected by past owners. It has been a challenge that I have accepted. Setting the timing and adjusting the mousetrap are my next projects. Enjoy your videos as I too am learning as I go
@@matthewsteinauer158 Thanks for the kind words. Enjoy the journey!!!! Ride safe.
Good to see how the dual points are done .
@@DG-hb8rh Let's hope I get lucky!! 🙏
Good video and I wonder if somebody timed it before and took a center punch and marked the flywheel
Great question. The mark has definitely been made with a drill bit, and I would think that that would have been done before the lower end was asymbled. If not, drill shavings should have got into the lower end. But........your guess is as good as mine. Thanks for taking the time to comment. It's appreciated.
Well on my 1980 and my 1970 those points I always do at 18,000
I ran a dual points set up on a Pan/shovel for years. It was a batch to get it right but, it had way better power.
@bruce1816 Glad to hear!!!! I hope I can pull this off. Just finished timing the rear cylinder and uploading the video now. Thanks for taking the time to comment, It's appreciated 👏
