Driving in the Kalahari, hundreds of kilometres from the nearest tarmac, a little bush mechanic ingenuity can really save the day! We stopped to assist a couple of locals broken down on the side of the road to discover that all the wheel studs have sheared off the hub! The total absence of the disk brake assembly puzzled me for a while until the owner explained that they "don't need it, it gone...

hand drill below zero in the Boreal forest

Its often said that the hand drill method of fire lighting is a technique suited only to warm dry climates. This is the hand drill in a Canadian winter, using a cat tail stalk (Typha latifolia) collected from the edge of a frozen lake a short walk away as the spindle and hearth board carved from a fallen white poplar having been weakened by Fungus (Phellinus tremulae), which was also found near...

It seems that this has existed since prehistoric times, but it is a mystery how it was born. In the early modern period, I made 3 patents in the UK and a diesel engine in Germany. The entrance to the hole should be a little larger, the inside should be straight. If the tip of the rod is thick enough for the spool packing to work, The handle side can be thin, regardless of air leakage, as long as it does not break. The pressure rises when it reaches near the bottom of the hole. There is also a fire hole in the middle and sideways.

Sadly times change as people do. Everything these days has to be politically correct somehow and fit the audience narrative or it may offend others. These MEN you speak of might oppress others with their confidence and skill lol. Good thing is we have TH-cam or other sites and your cut is actually your playlist. I dont support the new cut or actually this generations ideas and that is what you should do not support it if you dont like it. I'm a millennial but I grew up liking older things in the generation x and baby boomer era. Classic rock, Jeremiah Johnson, and vintage gear but I pick and chose new gen stuff just not this new crap from the offended generation. They can offend but can't be offended sorry I'm rambling.

He just carved a perfectly functional fire piston which requires great precision without a drill or a carving knife, basically using a flat screwdriver and a machete. As it is said, an advanced craftsman can carve wood towards himself as they know what they are doing. I don't think this guy will lose his hand. :D

I own a pair if Vivo boots. Decent comfort, but the soft leather was too weak and the stitching pulled through in about 4 months. No response from their customer service through several emails. Hopefully your experience is better. Id like to hear more about those boots. I like mine enough that I repaired them myself and still use them on occasion.
