Book "Proud Little Cloud"
This attractively illustrated book, "Proud Little Cloud", invites children to see how the sea and the sun and the clouds are all collaborating together to make our bright and variegated world. They all need each other and so the key theme is that none of us is alone and we all get along better with friendly and appreciative participation. The idea is that adults read the book aloud and talk about the images and themes with the child.
As the text on the back cover highlights, Proud Little Cloud felt very happy to be bright and shining in the vast blue sky: "There is no one like me", she thought proudly. "I'm so special!" However the eclipse of the sun came as a big surprise to her: "Oh, so it is not my own light that makes me bright! I need the sun so I can shine and children need my rain so they have puddles to splash in. I'm part of everything. Now I feel like an even more proud little cloud!"

The function of the practice is to be still, that we can be still in the midst of movement, we don't have to move with movement. So there's a letting go or a disconnecting with our usual with our usual pattern of reactivity. And the reactivity arises because we think it must be something to do with us - James Low

There's a saying that Tibetan's have that you may forget the dharma but the dharma will never forget you. That dharma is already in you. So even though life gets very busy or you get confused and you don't do any practice for a while these pathways of sweetness and emptiness are flowing through you. So never despair even if life gets very difficult you can say your prayers, dharma is there - James Low

When we sit in the meditation we are so lucky. We are so fortunate to spend time with this ungraspability of ourselves and we see 'I don't know what I am doing, I'm sitting here Ah, don't know what's going on', there's all this stuff, I'm breathing in and out, thank god that doesn't stop, thoughts are going in all sorts of patterns and then you get up and you have a pee and have your lunch, I am rich, I am complex, I am fertile, beyond capture, I cannot be put in a box, the mind is not a thing, I am not a thing. When you really see that in yourself the wisdom of the diversity of the phenomena of this aware mind, then we truly see the violence of samsara. Even if it isn't a war zone people are pushed into these categories again and again. They're being stamped with a signifier, with an idea as if that was their truth. So one of the functions of meditation is when you sit with yourself and I cannot establish the truth of my existence because it is dynamic, so it's quick and I can't catch it, but secondly it is co-emergent, it's arising with, because it's a with, it's not my possession. It's a with. So I have to be with it to with the richness of the arising but I can't stabilise it and I can't get it. And then you can apply that to all the people you meet, to all the situations. I have to be with them, you have to be with each other - James Low

What is very important is to think I'm not in charge. I'm not a machine, people may want me to be a machine, but I am not a machine and I'm not in charge of all the variables in my life. So I experience a bumpy ride and if your in any way linked with me you will have a bumpy ride to, because that's how our life is. So if we could all hold the confidence of that we might resist some of these incredible pressures - James Low

4:26:44 Understanding internal experiences 4:35:32 Understanding the nature of the mind and its relation to thoughts and feelings. 4:39:21 The mind is like a mirror, showing transient content and stillness simultaneously. 4:46:49 Relaxing into the experience without merging with it 4:50:40 Emptiness of mind allows richness of life to manifest. 4:59:01 Practicing compassion and purifying oneself through dorba 5:02:46 Recognizing the illusory nature of events is the key to purification. 5:10:32 Presence and awareness are not things but self-illuminating 5:14:36 Each moment is unrepeatable, reflecting on history and future. 5:21:52 Embracing pure presence and openness of mind 5:25:44 Mind is self-emptying, allowing for fresh content 5:32:53 Trusting less effort in sorting out questions 5:37:05 Embracing openness and emptiness in the mind 5:45:01 Do not solidify experiences, stay present with arising and passing 5:49:24 Practice mindfulness in the present moment

Where ever you are something is always going on. You're always on the inside. So, again, this is very important in dharma, because if your always on the inside, being on the outside is a delusion and that's called samsara. Where everybody feels I'm an isolated individual, I'm not sure if I belong, I'm sure if people like me and these thoughts create a kind of igloo around you and the igloo's made of ice and the nature of ice is water, so the more we allow the flow of experience the igloo starts to melt and we find we are always in it, we are always in it. And what is it we are in the dharmadatu, the original nature of the mind, so many names for that - James Low

Preparing for death is a big, big issue in Tibetan buddhism. It's seen as a critical point because you're existence doesn't end at death. Now why doesn't it end; because the mind is unborn and unceasing. It is because you have the possibility of enlightenment, because you have awareness, this awareness doesn't die, it can't end, it can't vanish and because it can't vanish it just goes on taking one formulation, one positioning after another. So that's why we have rebirth because of the indestructible nature of awareness, this vajra self. So the best way to deal with the happenstance of death is to integrate the vagaries of lived experience into the open ground. Which is why we are doing the practice whatever comes, comes - James Low

Does dharma come first or do people come first; people come first, people come first. So texts describe kind of visualisations, some people can visualise very easily, some people have lots of dreams and can remember their dreams, other people don't visualise, they don't have any visual images that arise in their mind. If you, as always with these things, if you make a vertical axis and we think this is what I should be able to do but I can't do what I should be able to do, you have an abasement, you are denigrated, you are lowered and this is not helpful in anyway. So we read the text and it could be very useful if I can access it, but as I am I don't access it and therefore it is irrelevant for me. Because if you put it on the crown of your head it will shrink you and we have already had enough people in our life shrinking us. So we take the vertical axis and we bring it down and it is a horizontal open plane and these are possibilities. So if this pathway is not going to work for you, you can do another pathway. That's why the buddha taught 84,000 dharmas...dharma is a buffet, choose what to eat and choose enough not to make you too fat - James Low

So in this practice of the guru yoga of the white A, guru here means your original nature. The guru is the truth, or if you like in terms of the two truths, it is the absolute truth and the yoga means to join in the naturalness of the guru. In Tibetan yoga is naljor, nal natural but especially relaxed at ease, jorwa, to join, to release yourself into the ease with being at one with the guru, that's the function of guru yoga - James Low
