Shopping Mouser - How To
This is a short video showing how I like to shop for components on Mouser. This is just resistors, but should apply for other common components as well as sites like Digikey.

Classic Afterwards Jams #009
มุมมอง 5621 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
This is one of the first jams recorded with the new modular system we're calling Space Station; which is a modular synthesizer entirely made of Nonlinear Circuit modules. These are all DIY made from PCB and panels. ♦ Twitch twitch.tv/sydheresy ♦ Patreon www.patreon.com/sydheresy ♦ Instagram sydheresy ♦ TikTok www.tiktok.com/@sydheresy ♦ Facebook sydheresydiy ♦ Discord...

good tips SeemsGood
Thanks! Finding stuff on there can be a bit daunting. Took me a while to figure this out.
This is a big issue with the dr-660’s. I would have suggested making a replacement video for it because this has been a discussion for years. I may take your findings and post it to see if it works if you don’t do it.
Please do! I’m have a link to the stream where we did the whole troubleshooting and replacing if you want to see the whole thing I’m long-form.
@ oh I just saw that you put the long stream link in the description. Apologies! I’m going to try it because I have three 660s I put to the side with this same issue.
It's like a drunk Soldering trip😂
There is an intoxicating element to it, yes. 🤔
Nice
🙏THANKS!!!! 🙏
that"s fun post more please
@@BernhardRiemann966 you got it!
Good stuff. Classic afterwards Jams is my go to if I need music to chill to.
@@Whimsical_Ravioli oh that’s so awesome to hear! LETZ FOOKIN SKO!!!!
Thats why mine is straight, and not curved.... the iron tip.... THE IRON TIP
*SPACEGEIL!*
ÜBER SPACEGEIL!!!
Wow. Really dig this one! Happy I found this🌊✨🌊
Oh nice! This is a deep cut! One of my favorites too. I can recall the whole song. I've always wanted to make a "music video" to this track.
Any NLC drum modules used?
Yes! Doof for kick, Is Carp Lust Wrong for the snare, and Tinkle for the "hats".
Great set :) what’s the module up far right with the precious pink orange lighting ?
Thank you!! I think you're talking about the NLC 1050 Mixer with the magenta LEDs. One of the first things I built of NLC's too.
This video is outstanding and is cosmically gorgeous! Two thumbs up!! 👍👍💯
oh! Thank you very much! It's been a really fun project to work on!
Just tell me how you can ne live for 10 hours
The trick is to shoot for 12 hours.
Same thing happend to my JV80. I was so sad it was my very first synthesizer. I threw it away. I missed it so much.
💔 I know that feeling 💔
下手すぎてビビる 片側だけハンダ付けて整えてから反対をつけろ
That method works as well.
Actually insane 🤯 How does it not stick to the PCB? It looks like there’s some kind of fluid on it?
Haha! Thanks! I'm so glad you dig it! It's a combination of the surface tension of the pads and leads, and there is a layer of flux powder all over the board. It's kinda like wave soldering, but upside-down.
This is sick
Very cool
Hey, thanks so much!!!
Amazing. People have no idea the skill required and the steadiest of hands to do this. A project in working on has some resistors this size, what kind of tip do you use on your iron?
hey thanks mate!! These are 0805 size resistors, my proffered size, and I'm using a J-tip from Hakko (T18J).
@SydHeresy Cool thanks. Maybe I was using a low quality tip, because I tried using a very fine point tip once and I couldn't get it to transfer heat much. Do you run your iron hotter to account for the tiny surface area of the tip?
@@VoltageNostalgia so, I don’t like conical tips for that very reason: the heat is in the shaft and not the tip 😉 The J and K tip are my favorites for soldering. I have a chisel tip my Hakko came with that I put ~2k hours on, but once I got the other two I haven’t gone back. I run my iron at 380C for most leaded SMD stuff, 420+C for lead-free solder, and 480C for big throughhole stuff like pots and jacks.
i would suggest you put a lil more solder that was too few ( ironc obviously !)
I was thinking the same thing.... there's simply not enough solder on there. 😂
Ive Always loved MOTU... First had a DIGI 001, then Had a Few 828's / MkII previously.... NOW Running 2 x Apogee ensemble FW (since release..Great sounding kit) .. But, Due to OSX 12 dropping Core Audio system wide support, Ive been looking into new i/o's....RME etc... Guess, Ill becoming back home to MOTU. Im actually excited. (Oh yeh.. just landed on your channel... Subbed.. Happy New Year!))
Oh awesome!! Welcome in! Happy New Year! Yes, I'm kinda sold on buying one of the 828's myself. This whole teardown made me realize how good it is for the price. I am interested at trying to get my hands on some other audio interfaces out there to see what they are, and compare.
Interesting. Loved it. Never seen this before
Thanks mate! It's mah upside-down wave soldering! The board is covered is flux powder (which is really hard to see on the white PCB).
dat jiggle
@@dj_doughy mmm hmmmm
Despite the relatively low price, this is not a prosumer interface, this is a pro interface. The Ethernet port supports the AVB protocol and you can receive/transmit through a cat6 cable up to 128 digital output channels at up to 24bit@192kHz and can receive up to 128 digital inputs at up to 24bit 192kHz. If you use it in a live setup, you have an internal mixer with some plugins that you can control with an iPad ( these plugins are not studio quality like those running on UA Apollo but can be useful for some people). This interface has a Thunderbolt interface so you can use it to connect to your host computer and have hundreds of channels going through it while being low latency.
Agreed, it's a real bargain for what all you get.
I hate astronomy! 😆f'in planets ...
😂
What about the newest 828? Same chips, etc.?
@@rjb7569 I’m kinda curious about that myself. I would guess they didn’t make massive changes to the architecture since they kept the name, but I guess I’ll need to find out. All those chips are still available on Mouser; so it shouldn’t have to change over availability.
@@SydHeresy It's good to have a knowledgeable guy able to review the innards of the tech. It's beyond me. The current 828 appears to be my finalist but I'm suffering from information paralyzation. Your dissection helps solidify what I've been thinking about interfaces 1K and under. Some of the other companies (Audient, Presonus, for example), are not that forthcoming in what chips, etc., that they use. Thanks for your presentation! Very helpful, and thorough.
@ I’m glad you found it helpful. I’m in a similar boat as you when it comes to audio interfaces, and opening this up pretty much sold me on getting one.
They drop the AVB port on the new 828 which is a major let down IMO. The AVB lets you add other AVB interfaces and is not limited like the ADAT protocol.
Hey, nice one! Always love proper DiY Eurorack videos. Just curious: how did you know to connect solder joints, so it’s okay to have a bridge between solder joints?
I think you're talking about that one bridge on the side. I honestly had to zoom in really close to see what was going on. I think I also checked the schematic to make sure they both "touched".
As an audio engineer, tearing down audio equipment triggers my button! Thanks for the video
Audio engineer over here as well (live events)! Glad you liked it! The response to this video has been really great, and I’m thinking I should do more of these.
@@SydHeresy Also live concerts here, FOH. You definitely should do some teardowns of live gear. This one triggered me because I'm building my own Audio Interface. It is a 2CH, channel strip (PreAmp, Compressor and EQ. And then can go analog out or 2CH Interface. Mainly because I do not need more. But my dream is to build like.8in/8out. With DSP of course.
Can you please do a demo video of how it sounds?
Yo! What would be a good way to demp an GEQ? I'm just use to measuring it in SMAART to verify calibration. I don't use them much in live audio except to tune speakers.
@@SydHeresy I'd love to hear them on Drums, Electric and Acoustic guitar, Bass and Vocals :) Maybe you can download multi-tracks and feed audio recordings through it
CONGRATS!! 👏
Thanks mate!!!
Great video very intersting!! MOTU have always been known to use the best in class chips at the time of taking a product to market. They were literally the 2nd company ever to make mass market audio/midi interfaces in the 1980s. MOTU also never hide in product materials what converters they use. The advertise they use the ESS Sabre and AKM While other companies will go to great lengths to hide what D/A or A/D chips they use (like UA, Lavry, and even Focusrite) MOTU have never been shy about what they use. They also have pretty good build quality and I still have a couple traveler units from 2000 that would still work today in class compliant mode with an adapter of course LOL.
Yeah, they are definitely a great value for the quality that you're getting. I'm sold as a customer. Just need to go buy one lol
@@SydHeresy There is a newest version of the 828 with the next GEN Sabre 32 chips but lacks the thunderbolt and AVB options of the last generation. But its a good one for the price!
I was looking at that one. I want to go with USB-C option for future proofing.
The channels in question to/from the DAC and ADC connect to the 2 headphones outputs and the integrated talkback mic
Ahhh the headpohnes! I forgot about those!
I'm sure Tom Evans would have something to say about this!
Oh man, i hope I don't cross paths with that crap! 🤣
@@SydHeresy Me too! Cheers and enjoy the holidays. :)
@marstedt... Beer through Nose....... (Yes its Midday here , Jan 1st..... So beers incoming and outgoing ;) )
very cool thank you. would love to see the UAD Apollo! :)
oh that's a good idea! I wonder if I could fine one to borrow....
I took a shot every time you said "Thunderbolt" ... or was it "Firewire?"
Good thing it wasn't "uh". You'd be dead! 🤣
The 828es has a Thunderbolt interface, no firewire. It also has a USB 2.0 for those who don’t have thunderbolt.

Missed the stream. But yeah. Loved hearing about the Z1. I have one as well. Love the Z1. That optical board would be amazing to clone. If someone had one. It could be possible:)
Exactly, i'm wondering if there's any schematics for it. But it shouldn't be too much work to reverse engineer. I'd love to get more fidelity out of it.
