Piano Checkpoint: Slow Motion Piano Tutorials
Switzerland
Practicing piano with slow-motion piano tutorials offers distinct advantages. It allows precise observation of fingering, hand positioning, and timing nuances in piano pieces that are often missed at regular speed.
This focused approach enhances muscle memory, promotes accurate technique, and empowers gradual skill development, resulting in more polished and confident performances.
On my channel you will find many well-known and less-known piano pieces from the classical piano music repertoire, from the great classical composers like Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin and many more.
However, you can also use the videos as a template if you start the piano pieces entirely from scratch or even if you can't read music at all.
Let me know which of your favorite pieces you would like me to record.
Have fun playing the piano and best regards
Toni Goldener

Thank you very much for this tutorials…can you please explain how the counting of the first measure came this? I would really appreciate it..thanks again
@@roadguide123 I count the eight notes in this 3/8 bar type. The eight note is the beat. It’s similar to a 3/4 bar type where we count the quarter notes. (There the quarter note is the beat). In this scenario the first note is a dotted eight note. That means you have 1 1/2 beats. Then the 16th note is 1/2 beat and the next note is a eight note again. Please feel free to ask if you have any further questions. I will do a short video where I will explain the counting in this piece!
@ thanks for replying… I’m confused because I thought the dotted note should be counted as 3 beats. If it’s one and half it should be 16th. Thanks again
@ the dotted eight note has three 16th notes in it. The whole bar has six 16th notes. Three for the dotted eight note, one for the 16th note and two for the eighth note.
Is this because there is a bar connected to it?
@@roadguide123 in this piece you have a 3/8 bar type. The 3/8 is like an order, that there has to be the value of three eight notes in each bar. Not more and not less. You can compare a bar with your trousers pocket: in this case you have to have for example three dollars in your pocket. But you have not only one dollar coins, you can of course have different coins of different values. But all together they have to be exactly three dollars. Do you know what I mean? Please ask if it’s not clear enough.

You may know that I have also been working as a piano tuner for almost 20 years. Of course, I also tune the piano on which I make the videos from time to time. For this Chopin I have made a well-tempered tuning, as was usual at about Chopin's time. Listen to the G major and C major chords. If you listen very carefully, you can recognize a magical calm. In my opinion, this kind of piano tuning very much supports the melancholy quality of this waltz.
Your videos are inspiring! Thank you for this. Playing and listening in this approach gives us a new appreciation of these amazing pieces.

The counting aloud drove me nuts I couldn’t stand it any longer
@@kitcooks hi thanks for your comment. Maybe playing in double speed would make the counting more comfortable?😉
@ maybe don’t count and have a metronome or don’t have either 🤷♀️
@ many find it helpful. There are some videos with the metronome, of course. It’s a tutorial for different people, some have a teacher, some not. Honestly I can imagine that the counting can be annoying. 😉 On the other hand it’s an important thing. And fortunately there are some videos with no counting at all. But in this Bach Marcello it makes sense because of the 32th notes. Anyway, I hope some of the other videos are more useful for you!

As far as I am concerned, for a nearly intermediate level piano student, I believe you covered all the bases to interpret pieces like this. In most cases the teachers only vaguely explain and work with the students on these points. I found your explanations and approach very clear and easy to understand. Thank you.
Thank you very much for your helpful feedback! My goal is to make my thoughts clear and understandable, even through a video.
@@pianocheckpoint Toni, hello! As always, charming! When do you have time to learn new pieces? And you still have to record them and post them and respond to comments. If I'm not mistaken, you are a teacher at the university? Yours Andrey :)
@ hi Andrey Thank you very much for your reply. I am a very good sight reader and pieces like this Bach for example can be recorded very easily and quickly. The most work is finding a fingering that works well in speed and sometimes is not so practical in the slow motion speed. When I come across a new piece I am able to recognize immediately its harmonical structure and this makes things very easy. As an example: this piece is in G minor, so there will be surely many of the chords that are in this key, but also the chords of b flat major. That’s is why recognizing chords is so useful and should be practiced as much as reading notes. I am working as a piano teacher in a music school near Lucerne. I have an education in piano teaching and a concert diploma. I am also working as a piano technician, freelancer. The time for the videos is mostly during my spare time.
@@pianocheckpoint Toni, now everything is clear. You are a professional. :)
😍👏🏻

Hello dear Toni... Starting to share the scores with fingerings is an immense help for people, especially for those who work and practice without a teacher and for late beginners like me. Sometimes trying to figure out the fingerings may be tedious work and we lose valuable practice time. And a special thanks for this piece, because I like it very much and wanted to play it for some time.
@@keremkeskiner7727I can imagine that it is helpful. I have thought about this for a longer time but never did it. Someone asked for it a few weeks ago and I started to implement it. Another slight improvement, but also quite a bunch of additional work to do. But it is good for practicing, too. In the end it is a win win situation for the listener and me.
