Dean & Doc Davidson
New Zealand
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 15 ก.ย. 2022
My story about motorcycle tripping around New Zealand with my bike riding mates, I’ve set this up to show friends and family that don’t come where we go what we see, a peep into our bike world, so when I’m too old to ride I can keep on enjoying the ride and this beautiful country. Also, to feature will be Classic Cars. Watch this on your big screen T.V with good sound.
I would like to show local and overseas bike riders the charms of two wheels in Aotearoa I love getting around our Pacific Islands paradise and there is no better way than on a motorcycle anytime of the year rain or shine.
Doc Davidson is my motorcycle 2019 Harley Davidson Sport Glide. Also, my head doctor, I ride for many reasons but going out to gain a better state of mind is a big one. So, we get out for a counselling session and could go on for a few hours or a couple of days.
Come along enjoy the ride, like and subscribe. Give me a thumbs up to keep me going.
Cheers Dean

Sorry to have missed part of your ride south. Anyway made up for it, on my Christchurch trip. Got the bug now, and planning another SI adventure February. Taking Nelson as a SI starting point and then south to Invercargill letting weather dictate the route. You will miss the Waikato daily winter cold fog and drizzle. Sunny pleasant winter weather is overrated anyway. Cheers Sparky
Wow sounds like you are going large on your next ride Sparky good on you, make sure you let me know when you are down in the South Island, as I have 2 weeks off for riding in early February. Happy riding mate, cheers Dean
@@deandoctordavidson I will be sure to.. Cheers Sparky.
Hi Dean, great bike and video. I took the Tuono 1100 down to Christchurch and back last week, plus a bit of touring old stomping ground. (3,000K's all up) 75% of which was in rain. Home to Wellington Rain all the way and on the way back Palm North to home, yes rain again. I wore the Scott wet weather 'over pants and jacket'. They were perfect and I remained perfectly dry. Keep up the vids, Cheers Sparky.
Great adventure you've had Sparky and all that wet riding, well done. That modern wet weather gear and tires certainly make riding in the rain a little easier. Good going mate, looking forward to seeing you down my way now I'm back in Nelson. Had my first proper ride over the Takaka hill today and they have improved the surfaces. Ride safe, take care cheers Dean

Cheers Sparky, U coming for a ride east next weekend.
@@deandoctordavidson Yes, I got it planned. Weather dependent for this old softie. The weather outlook for this coming weekend (15th) does not look at all great, but I guess it is a good thing that they are forecasting that now because they never get it right anyway so weather probable perfect. Text or call you closer to the off date, re my turn around point. Cheers Sparky.
@@Thunder851 awesome, up to the weather gods and there's nothing we can do about that. I'm on a Tuesday ferry, so maybe get damp along the way. Cheers
Always good bro
Cheers man. I have alot of fun riding.
G'day mate you just went through my home town Ohura awesome thanks for the video, from Qld Australia 🦘
That is so awesome mate. Really enjoyed visiting Ohura. Makes my day getting a comment like that. 👍 thanks for watching cheers
Got fed up listening to cussing.....
Hi Steve, thanks for the feedback mate you are right, and it will have to be more closely monitored if the channel is to go mainstream, Kiwi's do swear a lot thanks for the comment, safe biking cheers
A fun ride by the looks of it and one I look forward to doing with wifey cakes at some stage. I really want to ride through Ohura just to experience the emptiness of it. A friend of mine's brother used to live there in the old bank and he told us about it. We hoped to pass through last weekend on a motorcycle trip we did from Auckland to New Plymouth, over to Rotorua, then back to Auckland, but we ran out of time. Thanks for sharing :)
Cheers mate, sounds like you enjoy a long weekend ride as well. Yeah those old railway ghost towns are amazing, so rewarding to get off the main roads even if there is a lot of goats, sheep, cows to watch out for. But going slow is fun too. Thanks for the comment mate, enjoy your riding and hopefully meet on the road. cheers Dean
That's an awesome place with an outstanding road to get there. Cheers for sharing
Thanks Man appreciate the comment, I think it's the fourth time I've ridden that road over the years, and it never gets old. I would like to visit the Bridge to Nowhere but not too sure how to get there, just keep thinking how tough the pioneers were.
@@deandoctordavidson absolutely
Cool video mate. We have to do more up there one day. Good to have ya back home soon
Cheers Bro, trying to make the most of it, 4 weeks to go then back to the mainland, plenty more roads up here to ride and explore, it will be done.
And you say I'm not good at directions 😂
Hi Sis, thanks, I was worried about having to push the bike if we ran out of petrol xx
Ha crazy that's me behind you entering Akaroa, I remember seeing you turning your camera. I was running in my new CFMoto 450MT.
That is crazy man, on camera. How are you enjoying the CFMoto? Great big playground to ride on the peninsula, so much fun after the flat of Canterbury.
@@deandoctordavidson it's a way better bike than expected, I have sold my old Transalp 650 and DR650 as this just does everything better.
@@transalpernz I'm not surprised, they will be nibbing at heals of a lot of bike makers, so nice to have a new machine.
This trip that you have done, I didi about a month ago on a HD Tourer - Electra glide, dirt track included
Hi Gav, I was surprised with how much tar seal is there now. The big HD handles the gravel good. I enjoy riding it on the sport glide got. Shortest days vid got me and a mate up a farm track on the Harleys. Can't stop because the tar runs out. It's an awesome piece of NZ. I just couldn't believe how good the weather was. Thanks for the comment mate. Cheers Dean
Hello Dean, I'm enjoying your video of BP. Just wondering what tyres you're using and do you recommend them. I have a V Strom and want to change to a more capable tyre for shingle roads. Cheers Ivan
@@24reprise Gidday Ivan thanks for reaching out, pleased to hear you're enjoying the video. Tyres, I tried the continental TK but they were pretty soft so didn't last very well, I decided to give the Shinko's a go and got some 70% gravel and 30 road to do the Molesworth and Rainbow tracks, give a lot of confidence and up to now have been fine, just have to respect the wet tar seal and they are not speed rated which is good to remember when touring. I'm not sure if I go back to these or not so would be good to know what you are liking the look of, there is a lot of choice in the market. Cheers Dean
@@deandoctordavidsonHello Dean, I have chosen Motoz Tractionator GPS tyres for my V-Strom and collected my bike today with the new tyres. I'll run them in over the next few days and then try a shingle road or two. Cheers Ivan
@@24reprise Just looked them u, they look good alot of tech, should go really well.
Finally sat down to watch this. Great Vid Dean, for me it was a trip down memory lane. Love that Banks Peninsula, summit road area. Keep up the good work, cheers, Sparky.
Many thanks Sparky for your kind words and very pleased you enjoyed the video. I think they are finally tightening up and getting easier to watch, still asking Santa for that drone for Christmas, that would have been another perspective. Cheers Mate, I hope you're getting out as much as possible.
@@deandoctordavidson I been living like a bear. Hibernating. Old bones and cold weather do not make for good riding partners. Back into it today.
@@Thunder851 Hey Sparky how about getting out for a ride in the next couple of weeks?
@@deandoctordavidson I like your thinking there Dean, I haven't been pushing catching up for a ride, as I am very mindful of the range difference between the tourer and sport bikes that places a restriction on your ride options. But I am keen. Labour weekend is a no go for me, Grandad duties, but you probably already planning for a big roadie. Will send you a text later. Your SI adventure has been great to follow.

Enjoyed the video. What sort of flexible camera mount do you use.
Gidday Brittnay, thanks for the question, I'm using the GoPro flex jaws clap system there on the GoPro stands in Noel Lemming about $80.00, very versatile as you can move them around with the very strong clamp. Pleased to hear you enjoyed the video I'm working on part 2 tonight. Are you going to subscribe?
Christchurch to Akaroa by motorbike - about 50 miles - is a fine mini-adventure ride. I did it myself twice in the mid-1970s on a Kawasaki H1 500 triple, to play in a brass band, supporting the Anzac Day service & street march. Grand memories. On full throttle, that H1 could lay smoke a battleship would be proud of!
Thanks, mate. Sounds awesome I would like to see that. Respect for riders of those older bikes, these days modern brakes, tires, suspension even lights we have it pretty good. Ha fuel injection no choke. But best the electric start button is my favorite thing. Thanks for reaching out. Cheers, Dean
fantastic. Loved riding around my old stamping ground. You bring back memories , you even filmed a building I built in Duvauchelle in 1979. I did 19000km in 6 months around those hills. I stopped riding in 1985 after cutting a ewe in half at the intersection of Takamatua at 100km per hour, Stayed on the bike. I have only now since then on my 72nd birthday purchased a Kawasaki Z650RS and love it. I would love to do that ride. Great video
Thanks, Ben, for your story, nice to know there's others out there that have enjoyed the Peninsular as well. It sounds like a long history. A lot of the roads are now 50 - 80 kM speed limit. I could have spent a week and there would have been more to see. More tar seal than I remembered when I used to ride it on an old XL500 new 30 year ago now. Thanks for watching and commenting, your new bike sounds great. Cheers Dean

Yes, especially for you, good memories. The old church is getting a makeover. Such a nice part of Aotearoa.
Great roads in Northland, in terms of windy and hilly, not so much surface.
For sure, mate. Just makes me slow down and appreciate the moment. There's plenty to look at and enjoy. I just got to keep dodging those pot holes. Thanks for joining my ride. See you on the road.
Nice to see the rant about roads north of Auckland, the problem with Auckland and Aucklanders is they think New Zealand stops just the North and South of the city, if is not in the city it does not exist.
Cheers mate. You're right there's a lot of country to see, the north is a big place full of crappy roads but well worth a ride around the coast, bush and scenery locals are friendly all make up for it. Thanks for joining my rides. Enjoy
