Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers - Roots and Herbs
มุมมอง 9K16 ปีที่แล้ว
From the Album "Roots and Herbs" 1961
Having heard Robinson’s super-tasty work with John Mayall, I bought this album in 1972. Great playing, and still one of the most elegant jobs of cover art I’ve ever seen.
ANGIE STONE
Yikes. Unorthodox and gifted.
Just got this album and am so pleased with the amazingness of it. Never heard of Freddie before but believe I’ll be on the lookout.
Maaad
awfull.....
Perfect...
Studio Verion is on Biscuits for Breakfast from 2006
Muito foda!
On this day in 1968 {April 2nd} the Stanley Kubrick's science-fiction movie "2001: A Space Odyssey" had its world premier in Washington, DC The following day it opened in NYC and the day after in LA And not surprisingly it won an Academy Award for 'Best Effects, Special Visual Effects'... Five years later the theme music "Also Sprach Zarathustra - 2001" by Deodato entered the Top 100 on February 3rd, 1973 and eventually peaked at #2 {for 1 week}... R.I.P. Stanley Kubrick {1928 - 1999}...
I have an almost 1 hr. cassette recording from KRCL-FM Salt Lake City, Utah of Freddie performing solo and backed with the Blue Devils at The Dead Goat Saloon Nov. 30, 1987. The recording is of extremely high quality. Don’t know if it’s legal to upload here without breaking the “Third Party Content” rule.
Lonnie: my hero of swing!

This Cat is Baad! I appreciate his sound and the feel for music.
Deodato's disco/funk arrangement of Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra is featured in "Being There", starring Peter Sellers. It inspired (according to bassist and weirdo Mike Gordon) the Phish rendition which has become a long-term classic in their live repertoire. I've heard way messier versions by Phish.
What a distorted mess... How sad. I LOVE this track by Deodato. Just a flat, big mess... and horribly off-key. How could they?
Damn this version is good... Want a studio version :(
FREDDIE ROBINSON DIED IN 2009 R.I.P.
curtis mayfield and you did ten years before that....
It's good to come online and be able to here my grand-dad play on youtube... sweet... :)
phish > this
!!! супер)))
Bravo!!!
The Dopest shit!
DR LONNIE SMITH=GROOVE!
Great live capture of this soul jazz classic. Thanks for sharing! Dr. Lonnie Smith is really great when it comes to building up his soloing. I would say it is Smith that really get this song going and grooving in this performance. Randy Johnston is a marvelous player, but I think he is stretching his solo a bit wide at this performance, for this idiom. Lou keeps it spot on, though, at all times. Keep swinging, Rounder
SUPE SUPER I LOVE YOU PRELUDE ALBUM
check out Phish's versions of this song. friggin awesome
A typical standard! But on the other hand an absolutely needed sound! So easy, so relaxed, so cool...
Thanks very much for posting this great and swinging track.
RIP Freddy Robinson, loved your Stax albums, including this one. Another R & B/blues and Stax gem lost...
Maravilhoso!!!! Como eu gostaria de estar la...ao vivo!! Espetaculo, de um talento Brasileiro... Obrigado!
Thank you upload. I like this" Live".
i saw this only a few seats right of you ... (o; eska was great. i didn't know her til this gig, although she had already worked with one of my favourite bands (cinematic orchestra)which i hadn't realize exactly, cause i've seen them only with heidi vogel (which seems to be a girlfriend of eska, they are often together on stage).
o yeah... was there as well; shouting at 5:58 - sweet
great memory... was there too at NSJ; first time I saw Fink, hopefully not the last. He blew me away and next door Maceo Parker was playing. Thanx for uploading
