Will Apple Intelligence Be Available in Europe?
Apple's new intelligence features promise exciting upgrades to every iPhone and MacBook, but these features might not launch in Europe due to the Digital Markets Act (DMA). In this video, I shortly talk about the DMA, why this is a problem for Apple and discuss a few of my thoughts on the European tech world.
Join me to discuss how these regulations could shape the future of AI and tech innovation.

When logged into the US account, I have it (beta). When I log out and back into the German account (where nearly all my content is and services) it disappears. Settings->click name-> media and purchases-> change region to Canada (not US) -> select payment option as "none" (will not work if you have active subscriptions) -> use a random Canada address, phone number etc (use random address generator or choose something random from google earth). 4. Change language to US (English) 5. Change Siri language to US (English) 6. Go to Langue and region settings and change the region to Canada 7. I am what people would call an apple fan boy but I swear lately I'm getting tired of all this BS. I really love apple products but I was never closer to switch all my devices and say bye bye to apple. I would understand if they would restrict for specific languages (which is still kind of annoying but understandable) but restricting practically 90% of everything in the update is just ridiculous. Apple can complain that it is about EU Regulations but when other companies are doing it so could apple. In my view, this is just a ploy to try and make consumers pressure regulators into making changes more advantageous to Apple. Well I'm not falling for that. They can keep their features, I'll keep my money.

I think the EU has turned from a free market trading bloc, to a centrally planned system, run by technocratic elites. And I think it's good that Apple is not letting itself be bullied by these incompetent bureaucrats and career politicians. And lastly, I think that us europeans are generally the type of people who value safety over freedom, we love to be "taken care" of and controlled by the system and we fear to assume individual responsibility for our future. So we always vote these control freaks in power. If the end consequence of this mentality is that Europeans will be deprived of lots of cool future technology, then this is something we will just have to live with. Innovation is fun and risky, regulation is safe and boring just like Europe.

    1. Security: Its an implementation detail if its risky or not. You can do it on device where the data is decrypted anyway and combine it with additional security measures like a secret key that is send to the user via 2FA. So no harm here if companies agree on something 2. If Apples AI is not available here its fine, we gonna force them to enable integration and it opens chances for companies in europe to offer it on their own terms. Good for competition in the market. Destroying the silos should be our main focus right now

The issue isn’t if a user can keep it safe. It’s if 3rd party integration will keep it safe and not data scrape. Ai Isn’t like regular software and the data that it knows goes beyond what your regular usage data is like. The security and privacy that Apple are offering hasn’t been done before. Their Ai model is on device. It’s also on a private cloud servers for when you need larger Ai models. All privacy and security can be verified by 3rd parties.

I think people should vote with their wallets. If they don’t like Apple, then Android does plenty of the things the EU DMA is trying to achieve Apple is a business so they will get the memo. Right now the EU is trying to turn the iPhone into Android

@@ericprynn7662 Europe will simply switch to other manufacturers, who are much further ahead than Apple. Apple simply waited too long with AI and didn't do its homework. Now they are blaming the EU.

You had me at the intro. I thought, oh no, too dramatic! 😅 The 2 points that stood out to me most were the abstraction of real work and cynicism. Both I've experienced at some point in my career. For the abstraction of real work, I've seen this play out when developers (in my case) are too far removed from the actual end user. I've worked at companies where the last place you push code to was to some staging environment and then nothing... That's why I like the concept that some companies follow where they let developers do end-user interactions and support. You build it, you support it. It gives a sense of ownership and real impact. For the cynicism part. At one point in my career, I found myself becoming more cynical and it snowballs quickly until it becomes your default state. I figured out that it was because I allowed other negative colleagues' feelings into my mind and letting those thoughts take root. That is a big reason I believe companies should deal with bad actors from within as quickly as possible. Something about a bad apple and rotting the bunch. Keep making great content.

Thank you for adding those real world examples. Awareness is key and your examples will definitely help to recognise such situations.

That happens when you change the title last minute from „EU“ to „Europe“. Thanks for noticing!
