My friend has a rescue Akita and it was tough at first since she wasn't well trained, but they put in the work and now she is the sweetest dog in the world. She has the tiger stripe patterning and looks half tiger, half wolf with a little bear thrown in 😂

The biggest lap dog I ever dogsat was an Akita. I was told he hated men and that he would be aggressive towards me. A beef stick and bag of cracklins later. He was my best bud and wouldn't let me out of belly rubs range.
I have two. Extremely smart, affectionate, the best companions I could ask for. Funny too! They have a great sense of humor! We do everything together. I cannot imagine my life without them.
I'm on my second Akita. I've had many different types of breeds that I have liked, my other 2 favorites were a Golden Retriever and a Brittany. While those two were lap dogs an Akita seems more like an actual person with their own personality. Their personality seems like an actual kid or teenager. Hanging out with them is on their terms. My Akita might spend 5 minutes a day next to me. It comes over, looks me in my eyes, then licks me while we touch noses and I scratch the top of his ears and head. After 30 seconds of that he turns around complete 180° and wants me to rub both hips for another 30 seconds and he walks away from me. Then he goes to the other side of the room and lays down by himself on the floor. He always positions himself by any door that an intruder can come in though. The ability of being a guard dog is completely natural and untrained.
An Akita can live in a condo or apartment. I can think of at least 10 other breeds of (much smaller) dogs that are less fit for an apartment than an Akita. You're right that they need training and socializing to be able to live in an apartment, but kind of a weird and misleading thing to say because that applies to every single dog.

The American Akita is wayyyyy different than the Original Japanese Akita. The American was modified for way mixed with other dogs including German Shepherd. The one you are presenting is an American Akita.
Just want to clarify that there are different types of akita, there is the American akita that looks kind of German shepherd like and the akita inu that looks kind of foxy. They both originated from Japan but one was mixed with bigger dogs for dog fighting (american) and was later bred with German shepherd to make them seem like police dogs to stop them from being culled during the war. That's why Japanese breeders see the akita inu as the original breed because the American akita was mixed with loads of different breeds.
I socialized my akita from young but he never interacted with other dogs which was strange , he was good around people but fatal with large dogs ! Small dogs he didnt care about , and if a female snapped at him he would attack it . He was a very big dog and very amusing overall . Much missed .
The Akita will fare well in a apartment with sufficient exercise. they like to romp and then chill. they dont bark excessive. two brisk walks per day will suffice.
