Nice comments. I liked the tube on the bottom end and transistor on the top, equal on the top middle and bottom mids. I like a ribbon tweeter as I have a set of Quantum 4's with a SoundsCraftsman preamp and amp driving them. I like a crisp sound for strings and such with a big bottom end. I like having more power than the speakers can handle. the problem is blowing them out if you get carried away. Then the amp never has to work hard. It would be nice if someone came up with 10-way parametric equalization on the preamps. I have 10 band on each side, but, parametric would be really nice like in the recording studio and for the money they charge now absurd they do not have it apparently.

Mcintosh MA-5300

The Accuphase is very clear and detailed while the McIntosh is a bit more dynamic and warmer. For long listening I would prefer the McIntosh which might be less fatiguing. But that’s me and both are very good.

This was closer than I expected. They both sounded great. However, I feel the Accuphase had a darker background. It just sounded a tiny bit cleaner/clearer. I heard more difference in the texture of the drums for instance. Accuphase wins by a very narrow margin. 👍🏾

Mac was noticeably more natural sounding to my ears. The phase sounded more like electronics playing.

They sounds the same

Accuphase in this setup sounds more like real music esp the vocals although not sure about bottom end on that 1st track. Then again I have actually heard the Olymoicas f2f and they were underwhelming and not so interesting but then did seem well matched with the accuphase

I was surprised by Mcintosh's sound, of course in a good way. And Accuphase remained the same dry sound (my subjective opinion). And the video, as always, is of excellent quality.

McIntosh still sounds a bit better, but Accuphase looks more beautiful! :-)

Thanks for the nice video. Both great amps. Value wise the Cobra with its DAC on board is a very nice AN step in product. Tube rolled and with a proper power cord you will get very far on the long time enjoyment scale with this amp. What recording equipment do you use?

All hifi is a deformation of reality. The best hifi is in fact the real sound, and no less then anything else. They cannot sell the ultimate reference because they will sell nothing being less.

What a great comparo! I am drawnt to the immediacy of the solid state but at times the more fogiving tube sound was easier and nicer to listen to but then Wilson speakers might be the real probkem there at least in terms of what t I like to hear. Thanks again

The Dynaudio's are a nice speaker, but you can really hear the "lack" of detail in the female vocals on the Evoke 20 when you quickly AB to the Gold 100's or 705 s3. The new Gold 100 seems like a really nice speaker overall.

Le tube peut-être ressenti par certains comme plus doux et avec plus de basse, donc plus de présence, mais le transistor apporte beaucoup plus de détails, précisions et de fidélité dans la restitution du signal musical. Personnellement, je préfère le transistor, car le tube enlève beaucoup trop d'informations. D'ailleurs, si vous faîtes des mesures, le signal musical produit par l'amplification à transistors aura beaucoup moins de distorsion que le tube. J'écris en français car je vous envoie ce commentaire de France. J'espère que votre traduction sera compréhensible.

Audio Note - Tubes for me. More natural analog sound and flow then the Solid state setup. But Wilson speakers are great on its own and I can live with both setups. Can we have a price comparison? One remark. When you put speakers and a audio rack this size before the AN-E speakers you hinder the sound. It did capture the soul though. Thanks for the nice comparison.

Tube more complete

Solid state has a defined bottom end where tubes bottom is less defined. Same for the high end. However, midrange on both is very good.

I preferred the solid state setup on the first track but the Tube setup for all other tracks!

Solid State sounds less impressive but less tiring

Not withstanding the limitations of TH-cam. There were elements from both set ups I liked. The leading and trailing edge speed and snap of the drums via solid state for instance was so noticeable and impressive but overall and mostly overwhelmingly so, I preferred the Tube set up for its more rounded sense of realism and tonality. Solid state seemed to be hampered by a somewhat brittle quality which I may have mistaken for sharp etching around some of the intruments. The biggest win for me for the vacuum tube set up was the reproduction of Cello and Church Organ. It had believability that was missing from the solid state rendition. Closely followed by the female vocal which when I listened again was clearly more seductive via the tubes. I wanted to enquire was it optimum for the Audionote speakers to be placed there with no toe in I know they like corner reinforcement but so far apart maybe some toe in would have helped, especially that the Wilsons sheer bulk was masking the Audionotes from those beautiful microphones. Can I also say thank you for the time and effort to put this great demo together at this level its not that anything is poor, its just how good they can be and how the presentation affects the listener emotionally.

Both is great. But, I prefer OTO SE Sig. It more warm, sweet & comfortable.

I was raised on giant Sansui speakers with 15 inch woofer. These types of systems always seem too shrill at the top and devoid of anything at the bottom. Lucky for me I guess because I don't have to spend that kind of money for what sounds best to me. If I have to have these modern skinny tall speakers I hate the sound of like now I have Verity's Fedelio and a sub. God I hate having to have a damn sub to fill in the half of the missing music. Sometimes these clinically clear expensive systems just don't make the toe tapping emotion for me. My gear is starting to lean that way and I am clueless as to how to bring the toe tapping back.

1. B&W has a wonderful timbre, but the tone is shifted up and down. the strings are metal and you can hear it. 2. Kef - attraction. plastic. synthetic strings. dust in the eyes. 3. Monitor Audio is also an attraction 😢 the Kef but with better tonal balance than the B&W and a better timbre than the Kef. 4. Dynaudio is an excellent acoustic for the price. and most likely it is the cheapest in the test. It's unfair to rate the sound of din because they are the cheapest. and therefore worse. PS:!!! As always, the quality of the video and the sound are excellent. Thank you. We're still waiting.

The two sets of speakers placed further apart sounds thinner and with less focus. I suspect this is due to the placement and not so much the speakers themselves

This system looks great, and it probably sounds just as good, but only a few can afford such devices. I would like to see tests of more affordable audio systems. Thanks!
