I would say it would still be very reliable I don’t think I would ever attempt to be at the max “800 foot” range or near there. But I would say anytime you have obstructions in between the transmitter and receiver it will have some issues. But from doing a quick search I see that the DJI Mic 2 has a much stronger connection signal compared to the Lark M2 so it should be more stable! Hope that helps and thanks for the comment!

Wow, that was a super quick response - thanks a lot! Are there any other alternatives to the DJI Mic 2 that I should consider? For me, the most important factors are range, the ability to move around a lot while recording audio synced with video, and having a backup by recording the audio separately to the microphone's internal storage (or a memory card).

I would say the mic 2 seems to check all of your boxes! I’m not an expert on audio but I feel it’s the best for the price!

@@IndianPassenger you can go into the settings on the receiver or with the mic on press the power button once and you will see a yellow light indicating that intelligent noise cancelling is active. Just know that you can not use the feature when connecting the mic to your phone via Bluetooth.

@@Ego_S.B. the 32bit recording is only recorded onto the Mic! In order to get the recording you have to plug the mic into your computer and it will pop up like an external drive would. If you open it you will see all of your 32bit recording in there and then you have to sync them with the video in post production! Let me know if that helps!!

@@Ego_S.B. Do you think 32 bit recording is suitable for motorcycling vlog ? Where a bit of dynamic sound when varying speed and revs of engine needs to recorded faithfully minus excess wind noise and only a subtle reduction of engine noise ?

It definitely would help! Although to be honest I did just coincidentally read a Reddit where a guy was saying it did not work well for his use. It it not impossible to clip but it’s the best you can do for sure! If it were me I would give it a try for a couple rides and see or bring it to Reddit and someone might be able to help you more there!

@@SomewhereInside I’m not too much of an expert in that area, but I know this mics are used by many people for that purpose. The noise cancelling wouldn’t probably be good, but the rest (especially the 32bit sound) would be very nice considering the environment.

As long as you record internally on the mic. But the version on the phone is not 32bit!

@@BobBroeking if you have the Osmo action five and turn on 32 bit float, the float file will record internally on the microphone and then you have to pair it with the video in post production if that makes sense?

The DJI Mic 2 does not work on the native iPhone camera app without first connecting it to the rode app. its a little work around in order for it to work!

@@roth515 it records a low gain and a high gain and they work together on both ends so if you get a loud noise the low gain captured the audio as well and avoids the clip. If that makes sense.

@@MineSky I agree. You figure that would be basic and might come out with a future update but it would be awesome if Apple updated the camera app so you could see levels also and have it be more of a “professional” style layout if you wanted it. Maybe again also in the future!

@@simplejev399 I get what you mean. I think compatibility can be extended in future software updates but I think their main sales target is for their products and mirrorless camera ie more professional users rather than someone that just films primarily on and iPhone.

It worked with the S23 so I don’t see why the 24 would be an issue. I believe that list is just outdated that’s why the S24 is not on it

@@pokemonevan5022 yes you can do that! The only issue is you have to use an editing software to match it with the video. If you have the iPhone 15 you might be able to connect the DJI mic directly to the iPhone 15 and import the files into an app using the “files” folder app within the iPhone! I’ll have to try it out and get back to you!!

Honestly it doesn’t seem to get too hot. I think it’s better where it’s at rather than behind a tv set up.

yes exactly!! the 32-bit float file will be recorded onto the mic, you then have to sync that audio with the video you created. It's always good practice to create what I call a "sync clap" to line up the audio easier!!

It’s does have a nice sound. The main down side for me is I like the freedom to move around or turn my head without risking losing quality audio! I haven’t tried that on the action 4 but I’ll look into it!

I then bought the Mic 2 standalone, downloaded the free Røde Reporter app for iOS, and after checking that mentioned app shows it's using external source, every other I used worked with the Mic 2. Just had to remember to turn the Mic off to actually hear the recorded sound after, or else it would probably try to send the sound back to the Mic as a speaker.... whiich it is not, of course.

Do you have an older iPhone? Maybe that could be the issue. I prefer using the native Apple camera app but also use the blackmagic cam app as well. That app is convenient because it does show audio levels of the mic but it does freeze a lot and has some issues.

@illustratorsgarden you can have it save either to the camera roll, in the Blackmagic app, or to an external drive if you connect one to your phone. You are able to change where it saves from within the settings!

Yeah works great! I have since switched to the DJI mic 2 and use that wirelessly but still have the Deity as a back up mic!

It does not work on the Apple camera app!! You can either download a third party app like the Blackmagic camera app

Also the DJI Mic 2 does work on the Apple camera app just not while using bluetooth! You have to plug the receiver into the iPhone, which is still a very simple set up. The only other option I know of is to plug an external shotgun mic into the phone which is more affordable but does not have the quality you can get from the DJI mic 2. I hope that helps!

@@YTBrettMiller thank you so much!! I was hoping I could do it without the receiver and downloading another app. Just BT connection. So if I have the DJI mic I have to get a receiver to plug as well therefore getting the entire package with the 2-mic option?
