A few videos of Torvill & Dean.
Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean - 1982 World Figure Skating Championships - Exhibition Rhumba
Following their second successive World title win with "Mack & Mabel", Torvill & Dean were invited back to the Exhibition Gala at the 1982 World Championships in Copenhagen to perform three routines: "The Hop", a circuit of their "Summertime" OSP and additionally a rendition of their famous "Histoire d'amour" routine.
If this couple have performed "Bolero" the most times, then surely this routine and its variations must come second on that list.
The eagle-eyed among you will notice this dance evolved into their Original Dance for the 1993/94 season which called for the "Rhumba" theme. It was crucial in allowing them to obtain the Gold medal at that year's Europeans as it was the only section of the competition they won the judges over in.
The same happened at that year's Olympics in Lillehammer in that T&D were placed first in this part of the competition yet the judges had placed the other two Russian couples higher in both the Compulsory Dances and Free Dance and so our favourite Britons were relegated to a bronze.
Things to look out for: the cut to the group of British fans in the audience with their flags and the video being edited on top a flower - so 80s!

Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean - 1979 Morzine Trophy - Viennese Waltz Compulsory Dance

Here’s the second of two compulsory dances Torvill & Dean did at the April 1979 Morzine Trophy in France, where they finished second. They skated to the Viennese Waltz just the once more, during the 81/82 season.

I had originally uploaded this four years ago but was always irritated with the audio which was in terrible quality. So I have decided to re upload it with a new audio track (from the 93-94 season) and fix the colour up a bit. It is now available in 720p rather than 360p, too. Unfortunately there’s still the ugly watermark in the middle but it’s easy to ignore when you have a compulsory dance a...

I’m not entirely sure what this performance was for, but I’m guessing it’s an exhibition for the TV cameras.

All three of Torvill and Dean's exhibitions at the 1982 Europeans: "Rhumba/Histoire d'amour", "The Hop", and "Summertime", the latter of which was their OSP that season.

The Europeans before the Olympics, T&D finished a promising 4th here in Gothenburg but in Lake Placid fell just short of the Czech couple and so landed in 5th.
Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean - 1981 European Figure Skating Championships - Exhibitions
มุมมอง 39K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Fresh from their first European championships gold, Torvill & Dean performed three exhibitions. Provided I have identified the music correctly, they are dancing to (in order): "In The Mood", "Springtime Ballet" and "Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White".

"In The Mood" by Bette Midler was a staple during the exhibitions of Torvill & Dean in the 80/81 season and this followed their first World title.
Jayne Torvill & Michael Hutchinson - 1972 European Figure Skating Championships - Long Programme
มุมมอง 19K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Before becoming an ice dancer, Jayne Torvill was a pairs skater with partner Michael Hutchinson. British champions in 71/72, they were sent to the Europeans that season in Gothenburg yet finished a disappointing last place. Torvill would later turn to ice dance and was partnered with a certain Christopher Dean in 1975.
Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean - 1983 World Figure Skating Championships - Rock ‘n’ Roll EX
มุมมอง 40K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This exhibition version of their Rock ‘n’ Roll OSP differed from their competitive version in that they were a) wearing the costumes from the 81/82 season’s OSP (and a tin foil jacket on top!) and b) they only performed the one circuit. Nevertheless, a worthy watch.

Following a successive third world title, Torvill & Dean performed a variation of the erotic "Histoire d’amour" dance, which would later evolve into their Rumba Original Dance during the 93-94 season.

Only dancers where I’m as enthralled by the man’s performance as the womans 👍
Torville and Dean are evergreen
Even their exhibition dances are sublime!!!
Wow! Even though they were young here, you can see how and why they progressed to Bolero! So smooth, clean lines and unrushed.
45 Years later. This synchronity is also nowadays INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!
Even here they are so together, in timing, and in such close proximity to each other. Also this routine reminds me a lot of their Lillehammer free dance to "Let's face The Music" :)
This couple exceeds any preconceptions...just outstanding unity,
Still watching these magical innovators 2025.
Style, grace, elegance … personified!
I first saw it in a black-and-white tv set, so I didn't realuse the costumes were actually purple, not greyish!
TORVILLE AND DEAN ❤️

Les meilleures 👏👏👏👏👏👏❤❤❤❤
Their improvement that year was very very evident! They blew everyone else out of the water that year. But they improved even further the following season. By 1984, they were simply untouchable.
@@gk891 Indeed, I thought they looked a bit more confident with themselves here as well but that might just be because they were leading after the OSP. They both look a bit more grown-up and mature too!
@dorvilltean I had also once read that they were fully devoting themselves to ice dance at around this time. If that's true, it definitely shows.
@ Yes, they’d just received a £40,000 grant from Nottingham City Council (£150,000 today) for the following four years which allowed them to drop their jobs.
@dorvilltean It was a good investment for the Nottingham City Council!
@ Indeed, although the public sentiment was initially hostile and they had little faith in T&D. If I recall correctly one of the grant’s requirements was that they had to wear branded gear when performing but that never seems to have materialised!
Jestem pełna zachwytu nad ich tańcem na lodzie
I love this angle! Thanks for posting this. I once had their Bolero performance on my youtube channel but it got taken down due to some sort of copyright issue or something along those lines. Ditto with my Grishuk & Platov 1998 Nagano free dance. It also got taken down as well. :(
@@gk891 I’ve just tried to upload this routine now, it’s the European broadcast in very good HD quality, in full with scores and all, sans commentary and the IOC have blocked it! Disappointed to say the least.
@dorvilltean For sure. My two favourite free dances of all times are Bolero and Memorial Requiem. But I cannot post on my channel :(
@@gk891 Not to worry. For Memorial Requiem we’ve at least got the lovely HD Japanese footage!
@dorvilltean Indeed. And it's great to hear it without Tracy Wilson's sour commentary. ;)
I know that this is their most famous OSP. And as brilliant as it was, I actually prefer their 1982 Blues OSP. Sorry if that's heresy to say that ;)
@@gk891 I’d be inclined to agree! I love their Summertime routine too.
@dorvilltean What I loved about it was that everything looked like one continuous movement. So smooth and effortless.
@dorvilltean By the way, what might be considered an even greater heresy is that I don't think the greatest OSP of all time was skated by Torvill & Dean. Gasp! ;) For me, the title of greatest OSP of all time goes to Klimova & Ponomarenko's 1987 Waltz OSP. It's the one that became the Golden Waltz compulsory dance. In fact, my list of greatest OSPs of all time is 1) K&P 1987 Waltz 2) T&D 1982 Blues 3) T&D 1984 Paso Doble 4) T&D 1983 Rock n Roll 5) K&P 1989 Charleston. But of course, that's just based on what I've seen. There are several OSPs from the 1970s that I have not watched.
@ Thanks, great choices! I’ll have to watch that K&P OSP as I can’t say I have seen it!
@dorvilltean Their Waltz OSP? You can find it here: th-cam.com/video/q7BN7KU8bmQ/w-d-xo.html What I love about it was the non-stop content. Especially the second half of the pattern. And all of the unusual handholds. Apparently when it was made into a compulsory dance, it was slowed down as K&P skated it six steps faster than then compulsory version. I recall many recent ice dancers referred to the golden waltz as the really hard compulsory dance and that some actually find it harder than an entire free dance.
I watch them and just smile! Such grace
Does anyone know who did the choreography? It's brilliant!!
They choreographed their own routines.
Christopher Dean himself, for us and for Duchesnay after
They are magical to watch and G.O.A.T.S
The best ice dancers of the 20th Century. I love Torvill and Dean!
This is the same music they used for the original dance at Lillehammer in 1994, but the choreography is different. Still one of the hottest things I've ever seen - I keep waiting for the ice to melt!! ❤🔥
Yes, this version is callled The History of Love pt 1. The 94 OD is called part 2.
Only these two could create two completely different but equally fantastic rumbas to the same piece of music over a decade apart
@@victoriagill3337 And could melt the ice with both routines!! 😍
Soooo good. Mesmerizing. They seem to really be dancing with *each other* rather than it just being a series of poses or obligatory steps to score points.
Absolutely beautifully skated. You can see their talent shining through even at that young age. Its like our recent Canadian Olympic ice dancers, Scott Moir and Tessa Virture.🥰😍
Thanks DorvillTean; my first time seeing this one wonderful.
Yes indeed the best pair skaters of all time in my eyes. 💜✨
Sublime. Qué sincronización entre ellos y con la música ! Qué elegancia !
Lo mejor de lo mejor!!! Delicia verlos !!
Thank you so much so happy you've spent time doing this! And yes - you use the correct word "enchanting" - to think in 1979 they were still holding down full time jobs and dancing to this high standard!
Thank you so much for posting. LOVE early Torvill and Dean clips and I miss the Compulsory Dances so much!
Thanks so much❤
they need to bring back compulsry dances and original set pattern sections
Son lo máximo ! Así pasen los años siguen siendo los mejores!!!
Chris is thanking the person filming?
He could be, but I’ve no doubt it was more so to somebody watching at home: possibly Janet Sawbridge, the coach who put them together - this was their first World Championships without her as coach, or it could be something as simple as him thanking his parents for getting him into ice skating!
At 2:13, Jane actually slipped on that move.
Always so smooth, so utterly seamless. Pure perfection. 😊
Bu performansı iki saat aradım heryerde , nihayet buldum 😊 Beni çocukluğuma götürdü, teşekkürler. ❤
It is 2024 and it is still a masterpiece. ❤🎉
Beautiful, they'll never be surpassed.
Without the Soviet lobby that reigned at the time, they were already making gold because they were so superior to the boring Russians.....such undeserved grades so far below their immense talent AND they will finish 5th a real shame...
2024 unsurpassed. Love tjem
Still non to compare imo . Bravo Torvill and Dean
Потрясающе
Exquisite!
What a relief. Beautiful music, not pop crap, exceptional artistry, not sexually charged dancing, but most of all sheer class. What has happened to beautiful European and American culture? Everything is cheap and tawdry. Thank you for this video.

This was the first time they beat their idols Min and Mo? Must have been a heady experience.
Indeed, they’d beat them again in 1982 before M&M retired.
What was the second piece of music? So beautiful.
