Easy lessons on spectralism. Composition techniques and history
This video it's part of my series in academic music/contemporary classical music. This week we have an explanation of the spectralist school of music composition, I explain the quarter-tone and 8th tone system. I tried to be brief and simple as in the majority of my videos. This topic it´s very long so if you want to know more about it I have opened my zoom lessons! for any student. DM me on instagram:

My microtonal Manifesto: why i don´t consider myself Xenharmonic nor Spectralist
มุมมอง 2934 ปีที่แล้ว
Call it what you want! I don´t care too much, I'm focused on the results, and if those results are conveying to the normal human being. I consider myself a scientist of sound. Through almost 14 years, I search for the beautiful harmonic progressions in microtonality. I arrived at spectralist/xenharmonic view when i was a teen. I met my math teacher and all went another way. the main difference ...

Are you out of tune ? Temperaments Vs Just Intonation
มุมมอง 2954 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, we address the notion of the duality between Temperaments and Just Intonation. Did you know that music that you listen to all pop, jazz, rock, classical, it´s out of tune? It´s because of Equally divided temperaments. I try my best to explain this kinda hard topic... I used very reductionist analogies to make it very easy to understand.

      yes, its well documented. Some humans have the capability of hearing and identifying a tone into the infinite spectrum of notes, its true. This doesn´t mean that you are a super composer musician, it means that you have like a tuner in your head, and you can syntonize to concrete frequency values. yes i believe in it cheers !! thanks for the comment!

      Rafael Lazo Composer it is another form of synesthesia almost. Has nothing to do with composition ability. I imagine it would aid in writing music.

    Pick a number. Use your ears. Write melodies. Easy! My work is exactly what you described here.

    • @rafaellazo1725
      @rafaellazo1725 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment! I use both. Ears and theory, I'm manifesting my discomfort with Spectralism and MOS theory as the only method of composing microtones. I have another method Called "the tonal universes", that I will explain in the upcoming book I'm finishing! But as you say, if you pick a number and follow your ears you will find a better path than trying to incorporate as many partials or ratios relationships in your music. It's all about the melody, to make it sing and cry. It's all about emotion rather than complex maths, but anyways music theory needs math. but you get me! cheers!

      @@rafaellazo1725 personally I haven't needed any more theory to compose than I have gotten from 30 years of 12edo composition. Theory for me helps me communicate musical ideas to others. And until they're is a general and agreed upon method of nEDO or JI music I think my ear is the best tool to sculpt my music from the ether.

    Podrías profundizar acerca del minimalismo?? Creo que sería interesante

  • @rodrigoriveraeslava
    @rodrigoriveraeslava 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Creo que el término "académico" ha cambiado a lo largo de la historia de la música, ya que por ejemplo al no tener notación musical, el término "músico académico" era más relacionado a alguien que hacia de la música un estilo de vida, dedicarle su vida a ello. Luego llegó la notación musical, y aún teniendo música clásica, no existían como tal academias de música. Pero luego, con la aparición de la tecnología para grabar, cambió totalmente las prioridades tanto de la música en sí como del músico. Así que, creo que actualmente podría decirse que un músico académico es aquel que estudió en un conservatorio, academia o adquirió la teoría musical con clases particulares. Lo sé suena redundante, pero ese es mi punto de vista. Excelente video, Rafael! Regards from Mexico 🇲🇽

    I would say that any composer of a large body of work who notates and exhibits a unique individual style is academic regardless of genre. Notation is a requirement because it has to come from the horse's mouth and uniqueness is the only element that can separate their work from the pack. The rest is up to public reception. The same takes place in literature--what endures is considered great. So only time will tell.

    • @rafaellazo1725
      @rafaellazo1725 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed! the notation part makes it more unique and viable to be reproduced in the future.
