@@JeanJulesHappyDoc They are not venomous thankfully ! I am not a fan of anything venomous lol so I definitely wouldn’t have one if they were. What I have heard is that some of the larger ones have some kind of a mild venom in their saliva. But not enough to do any damage. With the large monitors it’s their teeth you have to worry about more so than anything else lol. I’ve been keeping medium size monitors for the last 4yrs & to be honest, I’ve took a few accidental bites & nothing ever happened Other than a small bite mark that went away after a couple days. Hope that answers your question lol. There’s so much different info out there, I’ve always thought it was better to go right to someone that actually keeps them. So I appreciate the question !

    • @amysreptileadventures6664

The tent came with a pretty nice bottom liner actually. But….after getting some tips from this dude that has 5 peach throats…. juvenile to adult….& each one is in a separate grow tent… He told me that he never uses the tent liner… because it would just be something for the lizard to possibly dig through the substrate and get underneath the liner & maybe get stuck under there. I thought that was a very good tip and I personally didn’t want to take that risk either. So I didn’t use the liner…. I just put the substrate right on the bottom and everything has been good so far ! The tents are made to hold heat and humidity and moisture. The material is pretty strong and durable inside and out ! 😉🤙🏻

Looking great. I would suggest putting some bricks or cinder blocks on the interior perimeter of the tent. Georgia is eventually going to start testing for weaknesses in the tent and the first spot they always go is the bottom corners and by the door. The second basking spot Id go a 40-50 watt hologen the tents hold heat and humidity extremely well so no need to go to high on watts there. Other then that hes going to be a happy boy

That is way too small for a savannah monitor. A single savannah monitor should be in at least an 8ft by 4ft by 6ft enclosure or grow tent. These animals are large bodied terrestrial animals that spend all day roaming the African savannah. What you have here isn't even suitable for a bearded dragon as even those need deep enough substrate to dig in. Savannah monitors dig deep burrows which they use to regulate their humidity for shedding, reproductive and metabolic purposes, without a humid substrate to burrow in, and a much much bigger enclosure, this lizard will be very short lived, and will likely die from obesity and metabolic bone disease or even liver failure. If you want your pet to thrive and live a long life then take the appropriate measures to ensure your monitor receives the enclosure that it needs.

Kinda bums me out to hear that she went through The first stage of her life of not being handled properly. Especially since the very first year or two is definitely an important one. But sometimes that happens. So I’m glad you’re getting her now so hopefully you’ll be able to make a change in her. I would definitely recommend going very slow with her. Lots of positive baby steps is key ! Even if it’s just a short 30 second interaction, make each one positive. That’s definitely what you want ! Even if you just start out with sitting in front of the enclosure and talking to her for a few minutes so she gets used to you and your voice, That might be an easy thing to start with. & What has worked for me is not using any loud voices or quick fast movements because that tends to startle them. Instead, use a calm, quiet voice and slow movements when you start to interact with her. & I’ve never tried to grab him, I’ve always let him come to me. The more calm and not afraid your are….the animal should have close to the same reaction as you. Makes sense right ? Remember how intelligent these monitors are… especially a species like the Jobiensis…. You gotta be a step ahead of them sometimes haha ! Hope all of that helps you ! 🦎😉🤙🏻

I just got a peach throat that will be arriving soon and I have some questions. She is 24 inches right now and has come from some trauma in handling. I plan to go very slow with her but I’m wondering if you had any tips or suggestions. Iv been watching your channel non stop. Love the content.

Wow, great work with him. 3m in and it's like, who is this jumpy little boy. He's happy and having the time of his life with just that fan and your bed. Immediate acceptance of your offer at 1:58, it's over.

Thank you ! & yeah I know what you mean. It’s never a fun thing when you have to deal with some kind of an issue with these guys. But thankfully, him losing the end of his tail, hasn’t phased him much. & it’s healing really well, so that’s definitely a good thing ! I’m jealous you have an Ackie lol i’ve been wanting one for a long time !

@@amysreptileadventures6664 Overall I would be dead scared if any of my scaly babies (I have three reptiles) fell sick. Vets are super expensive (I'd do anything to make my babies feel better, but here in the UK they're not very knowledgeable so that's a major concern for me. And yeah, ackies are super fun. My lil guy is a lil annoying lol! Ackies are like scaly ferrets tbf. They'll climb everything, just for fun. They'll destroy anything, just for fun 😂

Whatta gorgeous lizard! I've been wanting a monitor since I was a kid. Lately I've really been contemplating on getting some kind of indicus, since they're medium sized. Not too many videos about em, I still don't know which species I want! Either Quince, Peach throat or Dumerils. They are all amazing. I'm going to binge all of your videos. You pretty happy with this species?

Hi I just subscribed to you, I’m new So what kind of tail procedure did he have?

Hello to you ! & thank you for subscribing ! 😉🤙🏻👍🏻 I’ve had Georgia for a year and a half now. I bought it as a baby and was told it was a female, but recently discovered it was a male. That discovery is in one of my videos lol. He’s always had a slight kink at the end of his tail. Over the last month that kink seemed to get worse and worse I still don’t know why ? He might’ve possibly injured it somehow ? I took him to the vet one week ago & because the tissue was pretty much dead…poor Georgia had to have the last inch & a half removed from the end of his tail. But thank god he’s got that super long tail. It hasn’t seemed to phase him much at all. That should catch you up to speed about Georgia lol 😆😉🦎Thank you again for subscribing ! 🤙🏻
