How to split wood fast with auto cycle homemade fire wood processing
This is how I process wood. It can be very fast as long as i have someone keeping the tray full. If the tray is completely filled it takes 3 of them to do about a rick (third of a cord) of wood.
If you guys want to see something else let me know i am thinking about doing a breakdown of hooking up the autocycle hydraulics.

I made this splitter last year in my garage. To date I have split over a hundred cords of firewood. the machine is a beast, two people can turn pile of logs into a cord of firewood in under an hour with a chainsaw and this splitter. The UHMW plastic and the sled to and bottom runners works great. I recently had bronze made for the side slides to eliminate all steel on steel friction. I also ins...

    I was a bit worried with a large number of fake reviews but I am very pleased with the results. Bit of background, th-cam.com/users/postUgkxmKn8dCAXovWn8_cLYoosGLVrVrpwlIMc I need to split approximately 1.5 cords of wood and didn't feel like destroying my back. I purchased this anticipating to have a few issues splitting wood but have only come across a few logs of elm where the stringy nature of elm made it more difficult to split. Overall its not a necessarily fast process but it also isn't a very arduous one either. I came and went fairly often to do different tasks but once I stayed and got into a system I could easily split my pieces in a fairly timely manner.

    I'm getting my parts together and hopefully, will start recording my build later this week. Joe at SplitEZ, out in California, (my dump valve supplier) recommended many of the features you incorporated. Also, the guys at Euclid Hydraulics were a big influence on my component selection. I'm sure I'll be referencing this series a few times of the next couple of months. I'm not far from you in Ashtabula County.

    • @ixcel83
      @ixcel83 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure I understand the question. I wanted it large enough to stage wood, pick up large pieces, and store out of the way. I believe the cylinder is 14". I made the table flat and smooth to help with the positioning and moving of logs. It is 20" wide with bar stock running the full length, one each 2" in from either side. Allowing me to quickly measure or eyeball 16" 18" and 20" pieces. Loaded fully it takes three table fulls to make about a rick of wood. Hope that helps.

    Hi, Great looking log splitter! I made a somewhat similar one, a little smaller and ran by the tractor, and I am adding a lifting table this year. Can I ask how you made it so that the lift table doesn't lift too fast, since the cylinder there is much smaller in diameter?

    • @ixcel83
      @ixcel83 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I have the hydraulics run from the pump into the main valve that has the auto cycle that runs the main cylinder, it has a pass through on the auto cycle valve that runs through an adjustable flow control valve before it goes into the valve that runs the lift table and 4 way ram.

    Looks like you did and put a lot of thought into this unit/build Only thing you may want to incorporate is a cooler on the return line I know mine only has a split ram and builds up heat on a hot summers day of splitting

    • @ixcel83
      @ixcel83 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, When I built it I thought about adding an oil cooler. So far I have never seen it over 140°, it has 30 gallons of hydraulic fluid in it with 4 return lines all causing less heat build up. I have run it 8 plus hours on 90 degree days in the sun.

    You DID make a good call with the 5" cylinder. The pushing power is proportional to the pressure x the square inches of the piston, and the square inches of the piston is proportional to the radius squared. So a 4" piston = 2" radius. 2 squared is 4. The 5 inch piston is 2.5 squared = 6.25. So you would need to go to more than 50 percent higher pressure to get the same splitting power from a 4 inch cylinder compared to a 5 inch. Now, maybe less power is perfectly OK, and the 4 inch at higher pressure would be faster.
