Quite possibly the best sounding engine in history indeed. Just absolutely musical, perfect. Some engnies spin too quickly and sound too high pitched, this is just perfect.

@asdrew w The video was filmed at the Premiere Rencontre Matra at the CERAM test track at Mortefontaine, France, on 27 September, 1997. The car was driven by Henri Pescarolo. It can be seen at the Espace Automobiles Matra at Romorantin, France. And, yes, it still runs!

Oui à la différence près que Matra Sport , c'était vraiment l'équipe de France , la véritable équipe Gauloise ! Henri Pescarolo , François Cevert , Patrick Depailler , Gérard Larousse , Johnny Servos-Gavin ... Tout une époque !
Don't forget Bran Redman and Pedro Rodriguez (1000 km Paris 1969), Robin Widdows, Jack Brabham, Dan Gurney and Chris Amon (I saw him at Montlhery for 1000 km Paris 1971), not really "Gaulois" but also well driving for Matra
